California will probably pass single-payer on its own in 2011.   Updated at 4:09 PM

All they need is a Democratic Governor. The legislature has already passed the bill. Schwarzenegger vetoed it. Once California has single-payer, most (if not all) states will follow suit.

It's likely that if we pass a new law now, the new law will preempt single-payer, i.e. the Federal law will preempt state law and prevent states from enacting a single-payer system.

THIS is what the health insurance companies fear. THIS is what brought them to the bargaining table. THIS is why they are not fighting Obama's tepid reforms, and THIS is why it is extremely important that we do not pass any health insurance reform bill this year.

Let's not settle for a bail-out of the health insurance industry. Let's insist on the eradication of it. In all likelihood, California will lead the way in 2011 ... if we can just give them time.

4. It is bankrupt. Their credit's still good, however.   Updated at 4:09 PM

In addition, a completely Democratic government is California will probably raise taxes to offset some of the cost.

Aint no probably to that, if Cali had an all dem govt taxes would be raised on the evil rich with our without "free health care".

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Yeah, that would be a great idea.  Have a bankrupt state enact so-called "single payer" health care  :mental:  We can't afford what the state already provides for hospitals, especially in areas with high numbers of illegals, so who would be stupid enough to put the state in charge of all hospitals.

Between already being bankrupt and the prospect of a mighty backlash via initiative and referendum, that should make for some extremely amusing political drama for all California-haters.

If they do, expect a mass exodus of normal Americans and a mass influx from every freeloader and social cretin within driving distance.  San Andreas don't let us down now.

IOU surgeries.  Shit, at that rate, they'll head to Canada for "speedy" healthcare.

Best news I've heard. Let the states deal with this issue.

Let nothing frighten you.

God alone suffices.

Oh, yeah, DUmmie genius, there's a line around the block of people waiting to lend money to the state that pays its debts with IOU's that even the state itself won't honor.   :banghead:

Wrong again DUmbass.  Kalifornia's credit has been lowered several times and now sits at the lowest of all the states.

Is google so hard to use?

Ah the perfect way to drive out any responsible people left in this State.  :thatsright:

We saw it happen in MN. I realize we are on a much smaller scale, companies like 3M relocating to Texas in search of a less hostile to business environment. With any luck they will squeeze the west coast and the large companies will relocate to places like SD or TX. The way the job market is, if they build it, they will come.

Some may remember Archie Bunker's stated belief that God is only waiting for the last few crazies to move to California.

heh.

think what you will about tiger woods, but the first thing he did after turning pro was to move from california, where he was born and had lived his entire life, to the tax free confines of florida.  was he seeking sunshine? warm weather? ocean views? beaches?

tiger can play some golf.  but tiger knows shit from shineola (pardon my french) and tiger is no fool.

go ahead, california, pass a single-payer law.  let's see how many of those that you need to actually pay for this pipe dream stick around to pay after you do that.  middle america is chock full of communities that are willing to accept the work that california will abandon.  with honest and hard working people to do just that.

go ahead, california.

attempt to tax the rich out of existence.

do it...
