Just after I left work this afternoon, I was greeted with a sight that made me laugh and cringe at the same time. It was one of the simplest things you could imagine – a bumper sticker. And yet, despite its simplicity, it conveyed a message so filled with bitterness, so packed with stubbornness, so unbelievably negative that it could not go unanswered:



So how’s that “hope” and “change” working out for you?

Could somebody explain to me the reasoning behind this little gem, brought to you by rightwingswag.com? Have these right-wingers already become so bitter, so hardened, so jaded that they feel the only way of making their voices heard is by mocking abstract concepts like “hope” and “change?”

I don’t know the woman who was driving the car that had this bumper sticker carefully placed on the right side of the rear windshield, and I’m sure I never will. I’m positive it won’t be a great loss, since she decided that her crusade against the twin demons of “hope” and “change” was important enough to spend $5.99 (plus shipping) to get said bumper sticker from the aforementioned website. I simply can’t fathom actually spending money to display to the world my disapproval of “hope” and “change.”

Incidentally, don’t spend too much time poking through the products there. The “Limbaugh/Hannity in 2012” merchandise nearly made me hurl.

Maybe I just don’t understand the mindset of the sarcastic, bitter conservative asshole these days. Do they hate change for the sake of change? Do they die a little inside every time they hear the word “hope?” Does Obama’s voice give them a sort of logic seizure, during which they can only shake and vibrate madly while cursing “hope” and “change” until their throats are raw?

I can understand being afraid of change. Conservatives had it good in this country for the last eight years – sitting fat and happy while Bush Co. drove the country into the ground, spent our nation’s reputation haphazardly, sent thousands of our bravest men and women in uniform to die thousands of miles away from their homes and their families in unjustified war, plunged us deeper and deeper into debt, made their capitalist cronies happy by loosening restrictions on all sorts of things, ignoring the warning signs that screamed that an economic crisis was imminent, allowed the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer AND sicker, and permitted terrorists to kill nearly 3000 American citizens on American soil. With all that going on, what conservative WOULDN’T be shedding bitter tears of sadness once Bush Co. was swept out of office?

Granted, Obama hasn’t fixed every problem in the country yet. He’s been in office for, what, almost eight months, and the economy still isn’t fixed, global warming still isn’t slowing down, and we still don’t have universal healthcare? Maybe those conservatives have a point – Obama DID promise to fix all those things within his first week on the job and to once again make America the land of milk and honey.

What’s that you say? Obama DIDN’T promise all those things would happen within days of taking office? Well, now I really AM confused, because the only reason that somebody could become so afraid of “change” and so bitter towards “hope” would be if they just didn’t understand anything at all! That certainly couldn’t be the case! I REFUSE to accept that explanation!

I suppose I’ll never understand the hard-core conservative mind. How could somebody lose hope and fear change in such a short amount of time? How could anybody become so bitter and cynical to the way of the world that they actually long for the status quo and the continued downward spiral we were on? Why don’t these people understand that “change” doesn’t happen over night, and that “hope” is all we can possibly have for the future?

So you know what? My “hope” is doing just fine, thank you. I can see the “change” around me, and I’m excited that I finally live in a country where the President is a thoughtful man who has decided to use his intelligence, his passion, and his heart to the best of his ability and put them towards making not only our country better, but towards making our entire WORLD better.

I just hope that people like the woman I saw today will change their minds. Failing that, I hope they will all just go away.

It was worse than flaming bags of poo; it was malicious lies that undermined US seurity just because libs can't stand the thought of a religious country rube beating-out the Goracle.

Not all things are equal.  All the "right" (actual conservatives) has to do to make a point is tell the truth about the "left".

The "left", on the other hand - in order to fashion a point, must confuse issues, distort facts, attempt to create a false reality, and be completely dishonest in their effort to get as many people as possible to believe a complete lie.

There is a difference in political philosophies.  All things are not equal.

It's meant to be a one-side-of-the-fence insult.  "Teabagging" is desirable and admired when they are talking about second graders doing it to each other.  It becomes an insult when applied to those who don't think that way.

Think of it like if a group of liberals called a Congressional Black Caucus defector a "Blondie".  Being blond is admired and desirable when talking about a Marilyn Monroe or a Madonna, but it is an insult when......

I'm looking up there at response no. 19, about "patiently explaining to the owner....."  and I can't help but wondering how that would play out in real life if that goon came up to one of us as we were going about our errands......
