Critics Push to End Abstinence-Only Sex Education

NEW YORK  —  With the exit of the Bush administration, critics of abstinence-only sex education will be making an aggressive push to cut off federal funding for what they consider an ineffective, sometimes harmful program.

How quickly and completely they reach their goal is uncertain, however, as conservative supporters of abstinence education lobby Congress and President-elect Barack Obama to preserve at least some of the funding, which now totals $176 million a year.

And even if federal funding is halted, some states — such as Georgia — are determined to keep abstinence programs going on their own, ensuring that this front in the culture wars will remain active.

*snip*

Cecile Richards, president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of American, depicted the federal abstinence-only program as "an utter failure that has wasted more than $1.5 billion" over the past decade. Like other critics, she noted that several major studies — including a federally funded review — have found no evidence that the abstinence-only approach works in deterring teen sex.

Abstinence is a real threat to PP....almost as serious as threatening to cut back on federal funds.   :banghead:

I wonder if they're in line for bailout funds.

Well, heaven forbid we teach any kind of self control.  After all, go overboard on anything and the govt. will just bail you out, right?  From abortions without parental consent to bankers to wall street.  The answer always is and always will be no self-responsibility, only government control and reliability.

Oh and most of all - please don't trust parents to take know what is best for their kids.  That will be the end of society as we know it.

Want to see a drastic drop in unwanted pregnancies? Cut off all aid to unwed mothers, no welfare, no foodstamps, no section 8 or government housing, no free healthcare, no aid to dependent children, no free lunches.......end of problem.

But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

Unplanned Parenthood and their ilk are the beginning of the end for society. Plain and simple. Sometimes I wonder. Back 50+ years ago, we had Communists from the USSR trying to secretly embed their "values" into America to make her weaker. Like Lenin had been quoted as saying "sex should be as meaningless as drinking a glass of water" and Marx had said "Marriage is…incontestably a form of exclusive private property".  It's scary to sometimes think of these things.

Abstinence only doesn't work like mandatory seat belt laws don't work.  Sure, there's a few idiots people can cite who ignored it, but the majority benefit from it.
