Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, D-Ohio, is reported to have suffered an aneurysm and is not expected to recover, according to CBS affiliate WOIO in Cleveland.

WOIO also reported that the congresswoman is on life support at this time.

The station reported today that she was transported overnight to Huron Hospital in Cleveland after police found her in her car last evening.

The congresswoman's office said in statement that she suffered the aneurysm while driving her car in Cleveland Heights, Ohio last night and that she "has stabilized and she is receiving the best care available."

The congresswoman's office would not confirm that she is on life support.

A brain aneurysm is such an unexpected killer.  It can happen to any of us in the next five minutes.  There is very little warning and not much hope afterward.  I know two people, both women, who died "out-of-the-blue" because of a brain aneurysm.  One was lying in bed watching a movie with her husband.  The other one was carrying dishes to the kitchen during a Christmas Eve family gathering.  Boom.  Dead.

This is a subject dear to me - especially since I have been a victim of bleeding in the brain.  It is scary stuff.

RIP, Ms. Tubbs-Jones, in the Light of our Lord.

It's breaking on Drudge now that the news of her death was a mis-report.

She still survives, is still on life support.

Somebody goofed, as they did in the classic case of the Pope back in 1939.

It sounds like this was a fairly major event. Although I wish her no harm, the chances of survival beyond PVS seem to be remote. Prayers to everyone she knows and loves. Tough times are ahead :(

Yeah, it's very reminescent of the THE POPE IS DEAD from 1939, although it might have been the Pope before then, who died in the 1920s.  The then-Associated Press released the bulletin, and newspapers worldwide carried it.  Newspapers used to be printed in several daily editions, every two or three hours.

All the other newspapers were printing that the Pope had died, excepting for one (now-defunct) newspaper in Chicago.  The editor there stalled, because something didn't seem quite right about the story, even though it was from the Associated Press.  Circulation fell catastrophically, as people were snapping up the competition, so as to read about the death of the Pope.

Then as the afternoon went on into the evening, all the other newspapers had to start hedging, back-tracking, and when it was all over, they had black eyes.  (I disremember how the story got started; given the state of communications as they then existed, it's most likely it was just simply a human error that somehow got multiplied and multiplied and multiplied.)

This was even bigger than the "false Armistice" premature ejaculations of November 1918--there was actually a big riot, people hurt, burning buildings, in New York City when the news was found to be wrong--but of course such stories are now long-ago forgotten by all but franksolich.

Anurisms in the brain are more common among women than men. My uncle was with a woman one evening who was exclaiming that she'd never felt better in her life when it ruptured and she was gone before they could get the car stopped. 

Tubbs Jones survival to this point, given the damage that usually occurs, may prove to be not a blessing but a curse. Reason is someone, not too far down the linew, will probably be required to authorize the pulling of the plug.

I heard this on the car radio this morning. The Highway patrol officer that happened to see her had to stop her car before it collided with on coming traffic on the other side of the interstate. Its sad to hear about how it happened to her. This is one of the things that doctors can't do much about yet .

Sadly, the news now reports that Stephanie Tubbs Jones has passed as of 6:12 PM. May she RIP. :(

Well, she's finally passed away now, sadly.  Still, the news outlets do this to themselves when people are close to death.  They get the obit articles all ready to go (sometimes years in advance) so they can try to be the first to break the story.  This time it bit them in the arse despite the fact that Tubbs did eventually die.  The media are ghouls.
