The GOP gets McCabe in a room and the conversation goes something like this: You can fess up, turn State's evidence on Comey and Mueller and be allowed to retire OR you can do a stretch at the Gray Bar Hilton right along with them. Play or Pass?

Facing Republican attacks, FBIs deputy director plans to retire early next year

Andrew McCabe, the FBI’s deputy director who has been the target of Republican critics for more than a year, plans to retire in a few months when he becomes fully eligible for pension benefits, according to people familiar with the matter.
McCabe spent hours in Congress this past week, facing questions behind closed doors from members of three committees. Republicans said they were dissatisfied with his answers; Democrats called it a partisan hounding.
McCabe, 49, holds a unique position in the political firestorm surrounding the FBI. He was former director James B. Comey’s right-hand man, a position that involved him in most of the FBI’s actions that vex President Trump as well as the investigation of Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while secretary of state, a matter that still riles Democrats.

McCabe won’t become eligible for his full pension until early March. People close to him say he plans to retire as soon as he hits that mark. “He’s got about 90 days, and some of that will be holiday time. He can make it,’’ said one.

1. In this case im pretty sure a book deal will trump any pension benefits
Doubtful he will get much on a 'book deal'.

2. McCabe realizes that Trump only wants complete loyalty to him.
he knows that Trump will make his job difficult. He knows that Trump will try to get him to bend the rules and break the laws for his own personal interest. He is getting out of Dodge .
Um they don't read the articles at all, do they.

is a long time in politics. And Trump is approaching the "one day at a time" point.
And some of these republican critics may already have needed to sign up under FARA.
As I pointed out earlier he is being allowed to leave. They do not have to grant leave at this point if they wanted to really mess with him.

4. The problem with good, or at least non partisan competent, people resigning
is that they are replaced by ring kissing traitors.
And after 8 years of Obama the ranks are loaded with ak traitors. Hence the need to DRAIN THE SWAMP.

. . . do not **** with the people who have the secrets; who can tap your phones and dig through your bank account; and who carry badges and guns.
The FBI is biding their time. Trump's shit is in the street.
Rank and file agents and staff are not a problem they will survive. The revolving door senior level folk, on the other hand, may find their shit in the wind.

My opinion (which plus $5 will get you a latte and change at Starbucks):
McCabe didn't become Deputy Director by being an internal politics snowflake.
Pressure from Congress would be nothing new to him.
Pressure from the President would be nothing new to him.
So the WashPost's implied "explanation" is unlikely.
DU-folks' President-demands-absolute-loyalty "explanation is unlikely.
I think zeitgeist is in the right neighborhood. Whether or not he personally is in legal jeopardy, something is about to hit the fan that is going splatter FBI upper leadership. And force many of them out.
I've been thinking and saying for many years that one of GWB's great mistakes was not cleaning Clinton sycophant-operatives out of the FBI and Justice Department. Obama built on Clinton's foundation. Trump has paid the price for GWB's mistake and looks poised to do some long overdue housecleaning.

From last May:
The U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of the Inspector General announced in January (2017) that in response to requests from members of Congress, organizations and the public, it was opening a review of the FBI’s handling of the Clinton matter. Among the aspects that the office said it would review were “allegations that the FBI deputy director should have been recused from participating in certain investigative matters.”
Those concerns came after revelations by media outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, that a political action committee affiliated with Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe, who has ties to Bill and Hillary Clinton, contributed almost $500,000 to the 2015 Virginia state Senate campaign of McCabe’s wife, Jill McCabe. (She lost the election.) She also received $207,788 from the Virginia Democratic Party, which is connected to McAuliffe, a Democrat.
