At least for a moment, President-elect Donald Trump appeared to achieve this week what President Obama struggled to do for most of the past eight years: convince Americans that he can fix the economy.

Cheering crowds greeted Trump during his victory lap through the Rust Belt this week following the announcement that the nation’s new negotiator-in-chief had struck a deal with heating and air conditioner manufacturer Carrier to keep a factory in Indiana from moving to Mexico. The agreement affected roughly 1,000 jobs and provided Trump the opportunity to deliver on a powerful campaign promise even before taking office.

The plant is just a sliver compared with the nearly 16 million new jobs generated under Obama as he guided the country out of the worst economic crisis since the Depression. But Obama’s success came in fits and starts, illustrated by graphs and pie charts, driven by the philosophy that strengthening the economy required comprehensive new policies.

Trump’s hype of his first victory, on the other hand, suggests that he will embrace the bully pulpit to push an agenda grounded as much in emotion as economics, if not more.

A people... who are possessed of the spirit of commerce, who see and who will pursue their advantages may achieve almost anything.

Liberal thinking is a two-legged stool and magical thinking is one of the legs, the other is a combination of self-loating and misanthropy.  To understand it, you would have to be able to sit on that stool while juggling two elephants, an anvil and a fragmentation grenade, sans pin.

Exactly,  this is ridiculous.  What Obama did was kill jobs and replaced them with minimum wage or part-time  'jobs.' The jobs that Trump kept were good-paying full-time employment, not to mention how many people have dropped out of the workforce thanks to the Obama administration's inept policies.  Stupidity this tremendous should be terminal.

A perfect example of the marxist press trying to tell people to listen to them rather then believe what they see with their own eyes.

Or government jobs, or "green" jobs subsidized by the government.

How many days after January 20 will the left begin talking about how terrible the economy is and how the 4.6% unemployment number does not reflect reality?

Just like with the homeless, who suddenly materialized at 12:01 p.m. January 20, 1981--I swear, it was an instantaneous "creation," happening at the speed of light--probably the mass unemployed, having been ignored the past eight years, will pop up at 12:01 p.m. January 20, 2017.

And I'll be mad as Hell (for whatever good that might do; unlike the primitives, franksolich doesn't overestimate his influence on public matters) if Republicans, conservatives, and other decent and civilized people don't fight back by immediately setting the record straight about who's to blame.

  • Yes, really. Liberals DO disgust me.
How many days after January 20 will the left begin talking about how terrible the economy is and how the 4.6% unemployment number does not reflect reality?

Well, Trump gets sworn in at noon, I figure they'll wait till 12:05, then the seriousness of the homeless will rise up and be pinned on Trump too.
Liberals disgust me. (Now I don't have to remember to put it on each post).

Because only the left goes searching for that which is not there in a desperate attempt to be offended about something.

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams

Almost immediately

Things that will make an appearance after  January 20th ;

The U6 employment numbers, because the U3 will no longer be appropriate.
Homelessness in the United States
The 'Gender Gap'
News on the current wars and conflicts
The phrase "dissent is patriotic"

Things will disappear too ;

The phrase "The [Negative condition] that [President] inherited"
Approval of executive orders
The phrase "Jobs saved or created by [President]"

That's so cute... they think we actually believe that sh@#.
Let's see...
The Carrier news was a BIG blowup in national news, a hot button topic used as an example. Trump knew this, and that's exactly why he chose THIS situation. This has scored more points for him so far than anything else he's done in the past 18 months.
While the entire spectrum of media have been whining about greedy, rich, corporate bastards doing it for no other reason than to make an extra 50 cents, conservatives have been telling them this is a direct result of leftist policy.
1) unions who think they are entitled. 2) High corporate AND personal state and federal taxes  3) Burdening regulations  (and not in that order).

You said it was all lies, that it was all about greed.
ONE man, that man being Donald Trump, promised them (not just Carrier, but all the producers and employers in this country) that he was going to do everything within his abilities to fix as much of that as he could. And companies are now starting to believe him. He doesn't even take the reigns for another 5 weeks and he's ALREADY making a crater-sized impact on the liberal fantasy world.
While profit margins ARE the bottom line, leftists made it increasingly difficult to stay alive as a company, impossible in many cases.
NO American company WANTS to leave this country and move to freekin Mexico. But if they are to remain relevant on the global stage of trade, the decision is often to either fold up, or take drastic measures in order to stay alive.
The Carrier incident is far from unique. Trump just obliterated the ENTIRE economic ideology that Obama and media friends have been selling as a winning plan for 8 years. and I am all but certain the left is all pissed off mainly because it was a direct hit, midship, to the bullshit line they have been crafting for almost decades. SHATTERED by Trump in one solitary press release.
What I really love is that Trump didn't stop there, he went out to the plant and exploited it to it's fullest extent, for the sole purpose of pouring salt in their wounds. They cannot stand that his policy is already working and humiliating their saviors in office. Obama is not only a lame duck, he's irrelevant now. Humiliated in the most public fashion possible.
Face it, leftists... he's got your number. He's not what you are used to. He isn't following the play book and he never will. He knows EXACTLY how to humiliate you, and you've got a big heaping serving of it coming. I, for one, hope he is absolutely relentless in completely burning your ideologies to the ground for as long as he holds the floor... punking you are every turn.
