Badgers eat Gophers. It's a well known fact. ;)

Well now, remember that Minnesota beat Iowa.

I think Minnesota's underestimated.

Of course Wisconsin's probably going to beat Minnesota, but being a Nebraskan, I like putting in a good word for any underdog unless it's a Democrat candidate for something.

We need a "chuckling" smilie for when a statement doesn't merit a full blown laugh, but is still funny. I would use it here, and say: Minnesota is going down. You're right. Today, and ESPECIALLY tomorrowMonday.

Okay, Nebraska has its annual game against soreheads all over and done with.

Next week we play Michigan in Lansing, or wherever Michigan's at.

It's going to be a relief to get back to playing football with class fans.

Nebraska and Michigan haven't played each other much; Michigan's 3-2-1 against Nebraska.

Ann Arbor......

doc

I know, I know, but it's just my perverse sense of humor, giving the wrong location.

It's a subtle jab at states that have more than one college football team.

Back when I was younger, I once introduced a guy from Mississippi, one of the first authentic southerners I'd met in my life (I was a teenager then), telling others he was a graduate of the University of Mississippi.

He actually got somewhat offended (but not irretrievably so), as he was a graduate of Mississippi State University, which he insisted was superior to the University of Mississippi.

You got Florida, you got Florida State.....you got North Carolina, you got North Carolina State.....you got Kansas, you got Kansas State.....you got Michigan, you got Michigan State.....you got Iowa, you got Iowa State.....you got Oklahoma, you got Oklahoma State.....geezuz, you even got South Dakota and South Dakota State, and North Dakota and North Dakota State, a couple of small states with barely enough resources to finance one major academic institution, much less two.

I dunno why other states just can't combine all together, for a single "University of ....."

It's just my sense of humor, mostly in real life, to deliberately confuse a "University of ....." and "..... State University," just to see what sort of reaction it elicits.  One after all is sometimes starved for diversion and amusement.

Why is Wisconsin stalled against Minnesota?

They've been at 35-13 since forever.

That is, unless the guy in the cubicle watching the game and punching in the numbers is asleep, and not updating.

Such a posh, easy job, and so no reason for anything less than perfection.

It was a good game.

Yeah, congratulations, you're headed to the Rose Bowl.

But why did Wisconsin seem to stall about halfway through the third quarter?

Well, unhappily, Oregon beat Stanford 53-30 last night.

I say "unhappily" because I was hoping the Rose Bowl would have in it two teams with a history, tradition, and who've played top-notch football for a very long time.  Oregon's simply a nouveau riche while Stanford's won its stripes through the years, decades, generations.

Up until I checked the standings in both divisions of the Big 10--I'm a little slow catching on; this is our first year there, after all--I'd thought Wisconsin had a clear path to the Big 10 championship game and the Rose Bowl, but apparently not.

The contest for top in both divisions of the Big 10 is muddled; it appears three teams in each of the six-team divisions has a shot at it, and Wisconsin needs to have some other things happen, to end up on top.

Even Nebraska stands a chance to win its division.....if Northwestern beats Michigan State.

But it's silly for Nebraska to cheer for Northwestern in that contest; better that one come out on top on one's own merits, rather than what other teams do.

As of right now, it looks as if Penn State and Michigan State are leaders in their divisions, readying for the Big 10 championship game to determine who goes to the Rose Bowl to play flash-in-the-pan Oregon.

I only worry about football games that affect my life in some way.

University of South Carolina beat Florida = wife happy = good for me.

Georgia stomped Auburn = wife unhappy = reduces USC's chances at something or other? = oh whoa is me and my good Sunday lunch is now in question... :-) .

USC only plays one very important game per year....that's Clemson...If USC wins that one, all is forgiven and wife will be happy for another year...GO CAROLINA ... BEAT CLEMSON...my happiness depends on it... :rotf:

Yeah, I wasn't too happy about that myself.

Excepting when Auburn plays Alabama, I'm always for Auburn, a team with years, decades, generations of playing major college football; a team with a history and tradition.

Nothing negative about Georgia, not at all; it's just that Auburn's my sentimental favorite.
