The prediction is for 50-60 MPH winds and about 6" of rain for Casa de Undies tomorrow.  I pray for my BIG tree, my new roof, and my elderly fences.  I trust the power will be out,  We'll see.

I live in a 500 year flood plain.  The last flood was around 1835.  I'm good for another 327 years.

I hope you don't lose your BIG tree LU!  The roof on the other hand .... my roof is 3 years old thanks to Rita, I think it is time for a new roof!  LOL  Just kidding.  I hope we don't get much damage.

I was listenting to one of those live streams and I heard Geraldo say that the mayor of Gavleston said 40% of the residents had chosen to stay on the island. That is 30,000 people.

I can't believe that.  20% of them will die.

he may have exaggerated Galveston Island, I hope so here is a link to Fox News

that's just the strongest rain.  the worst part of any hurricane is in the northeast quadrant.  you can't always see it on radar, but galveston bay is going to eat all of it.

I just read an article on how people in some of the coastal area around that are going to RIDE IT OUT....The police gave them a black marker and said, fine, right your name on your arm so we'll be able to identify your body after the storm....and some still stayed. :mental:

Its been about an hour since I took those pictures and it doesn't look much different here at this point.  I don't really expect much until late, late tonight.

I finally found the link at the top of the forum page too!  LOL  Someone should have told me it was BRIGHT RED!

They are saying wide-spread power outages are possible as far north as Henderson and Gregg counties just overnight.

the storm jumped a bit more north if the forecast track on the 8PM bulletin . . . this could be good news for
galveston bay, although it is already very close to shore . . . .

Right now Ike is a Category 2 with 110 mph winds. I would not be surprised if it becomes a major hurricane.

this movement to the north could be the beginnings of the curl to the north that the models
have predicted.  I hope that this is the case.

and no, I have nothing to back that up, other than my "hunch".

The jet stream trough is moving eastwardly faster than forecasted. It'l' be good for shear and keeping it away from downtown Houston and Galveston Bay.

i don't think it will nail galveston bay.  I think it will hit at least a few miles north, and just enough to
spare galveston bay a disaster.

now, for the towns and cities in extreme north coastal texas, and even LA . . .

Talk about stupid. Geraldo is standing on the seawall now, along with brother Craig. He's talking about how he was hit by a piece of debris. I hate to admit it, but the evil part of me would love to see him go floating away. Bye Bye Geraldo.

Now he's too stupid to live long. :whatever:

Checking in...I am currently sitting in the The Woodlands Waterway Marriott.
They shut down our office building downtown and moved OPS to the Conroe bunker.

It's a very nice hotel.  I went out to have a smoke earlier, It's getting a tad windy outside.  :-)

We are starting to get some wind bands here as well.  Our electricity is flickering a little bit once in awhile ..... could be an interesting night.

Fox is reporting widespread flooding in SW Louisiana, almost all the way to New Orleans. Now that will be bad as well.
