Portland's unrest continues for six straight weeks with no apparent end in sight

The death of George Floyd triggered a wave of protests and violent mayhem across the country as demonstrators demanded justice and a reckoning against racial injustice and police brutality.
In Portland, Oregon’s largest city, those demonstrations have raged for six weeks straight, and local businesses have reported $23 million in losses due to looting and rioting that have gripped its downtown area since the end of May.
Demonstrators have been seen lighting mattresses on fire and setting off fireworks in the streets.
Talk about a unmitigated disaster. :mental:
Jacob Michael Gaines, 23, of Texas, was arrested for the assault on the officer.
Amid the unrest, federal officers were called into the city to protect federal properties including the Mark. O Hatfield Federal Courthouse, Pioneer Courthouse, the Edith Green-Wendell Wyatt Federal Building and Terry Schrunk Plaza.
Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security deployed more than a half-dozen law enforcement agencies and departments, with officers from the U.S. Marshalls, the Federal Protective Service and U.S. Customs and Border Protection rotating protection services throughout the city.
Lot of outsiders are causing trouble.
However, the violence has no apparent end in sight, and it remains unclear who is responsible for helping organize and supply protesters as they continue to wreak havoc in the streets – most recently focusing on federal property.
Local officials have criticized federal law enforcement and even President Trump for the havoc. Meanwhile, one group of anti-capitalist, anti-fascist teens who call themselves the Pacific Northwest Youth Liberation Front has used social media to organize throughout the city.
Oh sure! Blame president Donald Trump. It is untenable. :mental:

Seattle rioters seen damaging, looting stores; police say fire sparked at precinct, officer hospitalized

At least two people were arrested in Seattle and a police officer is in the hospital Sunday after a march through downtown devolved into property damage and looting, police say.
Police said Sunday evening the demonstrators had broken out several windows of the East Precinct, then threw a device into the lobby that ignited a small fire.
The fire was later extinguished and no injuries were reported, police said.
The demonstration started between 2 and 3 p.m. near the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Pine Street. A photo posted on Seattle’s DOT traffic channel showed crowds blocking an intersection.

Seattle police were working to block off the entrance to Interstate 5 so protesters could not enter, Seattle’s KING-TV reported.
Police said demonstrators had gone from Westlake Park to the Municipal Courthouse and then headed back north to the West precinct "leaving behind a trail of property destruction."
"These are criminal acts, not peaceful protests," police said.
The demonstration came amid ongoing police protests nationwide sparked by the police custody of George Floyd, a Black Minneapolis man, in late May.
The civil unrests are happening in Portland and Seattle, which is nowhere near Minneapolis.

Federal officers in Portland may have been permanently blinded by lasers, officials say

At least three federal officers in Portland may not recover their vision after earlier this week demonstrators, who have shown up in crowds of over 1,000 for more than 50 consecutive nights, shined lasers in their eyes and threw fireworks at a federal courthouse, officials said.
During Monday night's confrontation, one person also threatened to cut off the water supply to federal officers inside the building.
Federal Protective Service (FPS) Deputy Director of Operations Richard “Kriss” Cline said at a press conference on Tuesday that a crowd of more than 1,000 “rioters” surrounded the Hatfield Federal Courthouse and began removing plywood coverings before attempting to throw objects – some of them incendiary – through the windows at federal officers inside.
This is terrorism.
“When officers responded to put out these fires, glass bottles were thrown and lasers – which can cause permanent blindness – were shined in their eyes,” Cline said. “We have three officers who currently have eye injuries and they may not recover sight in those eyes from those laser attacks.”
The FPS has purchased anti-laser glasses that federal officers are now wearing to prevent eye injuries.
Federal officers responded by deploying pepper balls and tear gas. Cline said officers observed one individual taking pictures of a water intake system to the Edith Green Federal Building, which is also under FPS protection. Earlier in the evening Monday night, a Twitter user said “So we can shut off the water to the buildings the feds are staying in to make it a nightmare for them.”

Democrats have fully pivoted on the nightly Portland riots. They’ve gone all-in on blaming the riots on President Trump thus allying themselves with the antifa and Black Lives Matter anarchist and communist mobs. Instead of black bloc balaclavas or masks, the politicians have donned the cloak of civil libertarianism. In doing so, they make a mockery of it.
Democrats, so far as I can find, have never denounced the violent mobs, though New York Governor Andrew Cuomo once wagged a finger at George Floyd rioters while simultaneously explaining that it wasn’t really their fault because “income inequality” led to violence. Indeed, the only remonstrance issued was over people burning down black-owned businesses – their “own house” as he put it, because burning your own stuff “never makes sense.” As denunciations go, it was a rambling nothing-burger. Atlanta’s mayor voiced similar disgust with the arsonists and looters.
In fact, mayors, governors, and prosecutors have fallen all over themselves to support the violent mobs in Seattle, New York, St. Louis, Washington, D.C., and, of course, Portland, often conflating the “mostly peaceful” protesters upset with the killing of George Floyd – remember him? – with the ones looting Louis Vuitton, tearing down statues of George Washington, and trying to burn down federal buildings.
Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan ceded a section of the fancy Capitol Hill neighborhood to the mob. She handed over a police precinct to the mob. Two murders, gunshot wounds, assaults, and rapes took place at her pet mob’s little “summer of love” squat. She’s never apologized.

Shortly after midnight on Tuesday morning, videos captured the moment a makeshift bomb was thrown at the Portland federal courthouse during another night of violent protest. A Trump-loving, 69-year-old woman soon stepped forward to out the suspect publicly — as her own grandson.
Karla Fox says she recognized the alleged bomber as her daughter’s son, 18-year-old Gabriel “Rico” Agard-Berryhill.
In the hours after the IED attack, social-media users analyzed videos showing a slim male, wearing a distinctive olive vest with the word “ICONS” printed on it, throwing something over the fence at the Mark O. Hatfield Courthouse. Seconds later, a large explosion erupts, covering the front door in flames. The man picks up something off the ground and sprints off-camera. Police said the concussion could be “heard and felt more than a block away.”
Karla Fox turned in her own grandson Gabriel “Rico” Agard-Berryhill in for throwing bombs at the federal courthouse.
Agard-Berryhill seemed to confess to misguided involvement in the incident in text messages to The Post on Thursday, although he did not confirm he was the bomber.
“The device I’ve been accused of allegedly throwing was allegedly given to me by an unknown protestor with full face coverings,” he wrote. “I was allegedly told that it was a strobe firework that wouldn’t damage the building or harm anyone around it.”
He added: “Law enforcement has not contacted me for any alleged crime as of right now.”
He is clearly a willing participant if someone handed him a bomb and he threw it at the federal courthouse.
Fox said her grandson is currently on probation for a felony conviction when he was a minor. She said he spent the past two years at Rogue Valley Youth Correctional Facility in southern Oregon and recently talked of turning his life around, and getting a job at Amazon.
Fox spoke Thursday with Agard-Berryhill’s mother — her daughter — who told her she was not aware of the bomb video.
The 12:11 a.m. explosion was so loud that even members in a private chatroom used to coordinate protest and riots expressed surprise.
He is still on probation.

Police in Portland, Oregon, declared another riot after local and state officials requested federal officers withdraw from the state.
On Saturday, a mass gathering of protesters devolved into violence, with demonstrators later in the night blocking traffic with dumpsters, setting dumpsters on fire, and vandalizing the Portland Police Association building. A group of people later broke a window into the PPA office and ignited a fire in the building.
"Officers from the Oregon State Police and PPB arrived in the area to disperse the crowd. They were met with a hostile crowd who began throwing glass bottles and paint balloons at them," the police said in a statement. "The hostile crowd also tried to injure officers by shining green lasers into their eyes, which is a crime in Oregon. Three officers suffered injuries. Two were transported to an area hospital by police vehicle and later released. Personnel from Portland Fire and Rescue were able to gain access to the location and extinguish the fire inside the PPA Office."
The riots continue to rage on in Portland.
At the end of July, Oregon Gov. Kate Brown, a Democrat, said that "all Customs and Border Protection & ICE officers will leave downtown Portland" in a "phased withdrawal." However, acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf said federal authorities will maintain a presence until the government is confident the federal property is safe.
"The Department will continue to maintain our current, augmented federal law enforcement personnel in Portland until we are assured that the Hatfield Federal Courthouse and other federal properties will no longer be attacked and that the seat of justice in Portland will remain secure," Wolf said of Brown's publicly stated timeline.
Protests in Portland have continued since the Memorial Day death of George Floyd. Police previously declared another riot in the city after protesters toppled a courthouse fence last month.

Police Name 25-Year-Old Marquise Love as Suspect in Beating of Portland Man

The Portland Police Bureau on Tuesday named 25-year-old Marquise Love as a suspect in the beating of a man in Portland by rioters on Sunday evening.
The PPB said in a statement:
Yesterday, the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) began investigation of an assault that occurred in the downtown area where an adult male associated to a white pick-up truck was violently assaulted. Investigators positively identified the suspect as 25 year-old Marquise Love. Investigators made attempts to contact Love but could not locate him.

Love was allegedly captured on video kicking the victim in the head as he sat on the ground after being beaten by several rioters, knocking the man unconscious.
A person was violently attacked by rioters.
According to The Post Millenial, Love was previously charged with fourth-degree assault and harassment in a 2017 domestic violence case book at Washington County Community Corrections Center in Hillsboro, Oregon.
The PPB also said the victim, identified on social media as Adam Haner, has been released from the hospital and is recovering, despite rumors that he is not recovering or dead.
The PPB said investigators are still trying to locate a transgender female who was robbed in the area of Southwest Taylor Street and 4th Ave, where the incident began. Earlier today I had this report on an eruption of violence in Portland in the afternoon between BLM/Antifa and “Back the Blue” groups said to include members of the right-wing group “Proud Boys.”
I noted in the story that until federal agents from the Department of Homeland Security appeared on the scene approximately an hour after the incident began, there was a noticeable lack of Portland Police in any of the videos of the two groups clashing.
Late today came an explanation for their absence — there were insufficient police resources available to the shift commanders to do anything to intervene in the incident that involved well over 100 protesters from both sides.
Portland continues to riot. It keeps going and going and going....................... :mental: :mad:
Portland PD has confessed that it is running out of the capacity to deal with violence in the city on a 24-hour basis. There are going to be some hours during the day when insufficient police resources will be unavailable to separate the two sides. Episodes like today are likely to repeat, maybe grow in size, and involve more weapons and greater violence employed by each against the other.
The District Attorney announced two weeks ago his office was not going to prosecute “riot” related crimes. That caused the State Police to pull their personnel out of Portland.
It sure does not appear that the local and state authorities have a plan to turn the tide here. This may eventually come down to a steel-cage death match that each side seems to want to have.
After today’s escalation, it might come faster than expected.

A group of Portland, Ore. protesters staged a sit-in inside the lobby of Mayor Ted Wheeler’s condominium building Friday evening while others held a loud concert outside.
The protesters said they wouldn’t leave until Wheeler meets with them over their demands that he resign, reduce the Portland Police Bureau budget and never vote to increase police spending.
The protest appeared to be peaceful as of 10 p.m. local time, although red-paint handprints were seen on the glass outside the lobby, according to independent journalist Garrison Davis.
The Jacobins are sitting in at Mayor Mayor Ted Wheeler’s condominium building after he rejected federal officers to stop the riot.
Thank you Portlanders for a powerful display of solidarity at last night's demonstrations,” he tweeted. “Racial justice requires the entire community to come together. Let's continue to focus on the work ahead and move forward with reform, recovery and resilience plans for PDX.”
Earlier Friday, Wheeler wrote a letter to President Trump, declining an offer of more federal officers to quell rioting that has plagued the city since the May 25 death of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis.
“We don’t need your politics of division and demagoguery,” he wrote. “When you sent he Feds to Portland last month you made the situation far worse. Your offer to repeat that disaster is a cynical attempt to stoke fear and distract us from the real work of our city.”
The Jacobins want Mayor Wheeler out. Pandering to Jacobins is an exercise in futility.

NPR worries that declaring violent Portland protests to be riots could be racist

Authorities in Portland, Ore. may be racist in the way they define "riot," according to National Public Radio.
The taxpayer-funded media outlet aired a report Thursday in which it claimed that state laws governing riot declarations "have roots in the state's racist history."
An accompanying article by Oregon Public Broadcasting's Jonathan Levinson linked to a June interview with Black studies educator and writer Walidah Imarisha, who claimed the state's historically racist laws "absolutely" echo through Oregon's current governance.
Most of the rioters are White. Portland is mostly White.

Chilling new video shows the chaotic aftermath of a man’s fatal shooting Saturday night in Portland, Ore., amid violent clashes between Black Lives Matter protesters and President Trump supporters.
The footage — posted to YouTube by local videography channel Stumptown Matters — does not capture images of the 8:45 p.m. local time shooting, but a man can be heard yelling, “We got a couple right here!” followed by a pair of gunshots.
The victim — who, according to a freelance Associated Press photographer was wearing a cap bearing the insignia of right-wing group Patriot Prayer — is then seen lying face-down and motionless on the street, as another man rushes over, asking, “You OK?”
The man flips the victim onto his back, and four apparent Black Lives Matter protesters run into frame, one of them dropping a bag to kneel down beside the victim.
People are getting killed in Portland.
The victim, struck in the chest, was ultimately pronounced dead on the scene.
Investigators are yet to publicly identify him, or a suspect in the slaying.
The City of Roses has been roiled nightly by protests, at times violent, since the late May death of George Floyd, a black man killed in Minneapolis beneath the knee of a white police officer.

A Rhode Island professor has sparked outrage by claiming an Antifa security guard was morally justified in killing the supporter of a right-wing group after a Trump rally in Portland.
Erik Loomis, a professor at the University of Rhode Island, first speculated that self-confessed “100% Antifa” killer Michael Reinoehl was executed by police when they came to arrest him.
“I am extremely anti-conspiracy theory. But it’s not a conspiracy theory at this point in time to wonder if the cops simply murdered him,” the scholar wrote in a blog post.
Erik Loomis is just as bad as Michael Reinoehl. He is a terrorist.
The academic followed up with two separate blogs about the huge backlash he received, one in which he refused to become a victim of “cancel culture,” another in which he insisted, “I stand behind every word of what I said.”
“The issue of violence in self-defense on the left has been a debate for over a century and a theoretical discussion over when to use it and whether this incident was justified is a perfectly fine conversation to have, especially given the rise of armed fascist groups taking over our nation,” he wrote.
“It’s been a great day of deleting hate mail sent from people with AOL and Outlook accounts,” he wrote.
The University of Rhode Island did not immediately respond to messages for comment.

About 200 Black Lives Matter demonstrators gathered in the Oregon city around 9 p.m. Saturday and marched through downtown, at times smashing store windows and tagging buildings with graffiti, Fox News reported Sunday.
“The group marched around in the street for several hours, stopping at various locations to demonstrate and in some cases damaged property and apply graffiti,” police said in a statement posted on Twitter. “Individuals in the group broke windows on businesses, including a bank in the 400 block of Southwest Harrison Street, a restaurant in the 1900 block of Southwest Broadway, and coffee shop in the 1000 block of Southwest 6th Avenue.”
They keep rioting.
Police did not use tear gas to disperse the crowd, in keeping with Mayor Ted Wheeler’s banning its use.
The uneasy weekend followed a lull in the protests in Portland that have shaken the city for more than 100 days. Smoke from the wildfires, which has scorched wide swaths of Oregon, California, and Washington state, briefly grounded the demonstrators.
Smoke from the fires, which have burned through more than 1 million acres in Oregon alone, not only engulfed the city but reached as far as Europe.

The unrest was reportedly tied to the "Day of Rage" on the eve of Columbus Day.
Andy Ngo, a journalist who has been documenting the unrest in the city, posted images of the destruction on Twitter. The Oregonian reported that protesters managed to bring down statues of Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt.

Red House latest: Increased security, cache of weapons behind barricade

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — As many as 300 people were gathered inside the barricades at the Red House in North Portland on Friday, with a cache of weapons and a desire not to be prosecuted if they end the occupation that has blocked homes in the Humboldt neighborhood for 5 days.
On Friday, Gabe Johnson, the director of the Coalition to Save Portland, told KOIN 6 News he went into the autonomous zone Friday afternoon to speak with people directly connected with the occupation. He said that armed security for the protesters had significantly increased.

“One of the things that I saw immediately when I went in was just how fortified it was, even a day later, probably double the armaments, double the security.”
The neverending unrest is now centered around a red house. It was foreclosed, which was purchased in 2018.
In a statement Friday afternoon Mayor Ted Wheeler’s office said, “If diplomacy and de-escalation fail, we are prepared for other alternatives because the Mayor will not let an armed occupation stand in the City of Portland.”
Johnson said he eventually talked to 2 women who said they could speak on behalf of the Kinney family.
“One of the things that they wanted was a letter from PPB stating that anyone that’s in the autonomous zone will not be arrested or prosecuted if they start to take down the barricades,” he said.

PORTLAND, Ore. — For the first time this week, the developer who bought the home now known as the “Red House on Mississippi” released a statement about the tense situation.
The North Portland home has been the site of clashes between police and local demonstrators who are advocating for a family to stay and not be evicted. One of the recent clashes was on Tuesday morning when police attempted to clear the property.

The developer who bought the home at auction in 2018, Roman Ozeruga with Urban Housing Development LLC, sent a statement to KGW’s Maggie Vespa, saying he is looking for ways to end the conflict.

The family who lives in the home, the Kinneys, lost it to foreclosure two years ago and has refused to leave. Recently, police tried to make them leave. In response, protesters set up fences and camps around the property, shut down Mississippi Avenue and have thrown rocks, bottles and balloons at officers. Protesters said they’re fighting to protect another family of color from losing their home.
Outrage over the family’s eviction has been brewing for months. A lot of it stems from a visit by Multnomah County Sheriff’s deputies in September. That’s when the Kinneys said they were ordered to leave. A judge had ordered the family out, arguing the eviction is valid because it was ordered before the moratorium for the COVID-19 pandemic was put into place.
Since then, Portland police said the camp has slowly formed in protest. They said they’ve been called more than 80 times for fights, threats and reports of shots fired.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The family at the center of the “Red House” protest in North Portland has a second home that has been paid for, court and real estate records show.
KOIN 6 News has learned the Kinney family has a home on the 2800 block of Northeast Eighth Avenue in the city’s Irvington neighborhood under the Kinney family trust. A foundation with the same name was listed as owning the property at the center of ongoing protests on North Mississippi Avenue.
In a statement to KOIN 6 News, the organization representing the family said there has been “misinformation” and they would be releasing a statement later, but did not indicate when the statement would be released.
The Kinneys own a second house.

In another clip, someone approached Wheeler and called him out by his middle name: "We're never going to forget you, Tevis, ever. I hope you enjoy your little wine."

The militants spray painted KGMI radio journalist Joe Teehan, threw hot chocolate in the reporter's face, and stole his microphone.
"There were shouts of, 'He's taking unauthorized photos. He's invading privacy.' Pretty soon I was surrounded by a fairly good number of people," Teehan told KIRO-TV.

A standoff remains but Fleetwood declared that the circumstances surrounding city hall and the library lawn are "untenable."
The city intends to clear the camp by the end of January. "This [protest] is not going to deter the city's plan?" KIRO-TV's Deedee Sun asked. "No. If anything, it hardens my resolve," Fleetwood answered.
The college town sits about 88 miles north of Seattle, a center for anti-police riots held hostage by Antifa's reign of terror since the death of George Floyd in May.

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler on Sunday night pepper sprayed a man who confronted him with a video camera as he was leaving a restaurant, The Oregonian reported.
Wheeler was asked about the incident at a press conference Monday, and said he was confronted by a man he described as middle aged and not wearing a mask as he left a local restaurant. The man accused him of violating the city's coronavirus mandate because he was not wearing a mask while he was eating dinner.
Wheeler said he told the man he had been eating in a tented area that does not require masks under current guidelines.
"He had no face mask on and got within a foot or two of my face while he was videoing me," Wheeler said, according to a police report of the incident. "I became imminently concerned for my personal safety."
Ted Wheeler violated his own order, but wait there is more.
It is not the first time Wheeler has been confronted recently. A group of left-wing activists confronted him inside a restaurant and some made physical contact with him earlier this month.
During protests last summer over racial justice, some demonstrators smashed windows and set fires in his condo building, forcing him to move.

Last night, after a large group of Antifa goons marched around the city smashing windows, police surrounded all 100 of them and would only release them one at a time after photographing their faces. Some in the group refused and 13 people were arrested.
Those that were being detained were identified and photographed, as part of a criminal investigation, before being released,” PPB said in a release early Saturday. “Some refused to comply and locked arms together in an effort to interfere with the investigation. Officers escorted them away and they were arrested.”
PPB said officers found several items left behind by people inside the perimeter, including a crowbar, hammers, bear spray, slugging weapon with rocks, high impact slingshot, and knives.
“As the event unfolded, groups formed on the outside and physically challenged officers. Some threw rocks and full cans of beer at officers,” PPB said. “Officers deployed some OC spray and one impact munition.”
The tactic the police used last night is known as kettling and is very unpopular with the far left because it works. Today OPB has a story painting it as a violation of civil rights:

Over 200 people joined late-night riots in Portland on Tuesday, the one-year anniversary of George Floyd's death.
Police said the rioters vandalized businesses and launched fireworks and large objects at police officers. Police said at least five people were arrested on charges including criminal mischief.

To me, the answer is obvious. The city and surrounding area is a leftist hellhole where the population has been indoctrinated to be completely subservient to the state. If rioters and leftists come in to burglarize, destroy, loot, burn, and commit murder, those "people" (I hesitate to call them Americans) are perfectly fine bunkering down until the mayhem subsides.

All 50 of Portland police’s highly trained rapid response unit voted unanimously to resign on Wednesday during a union meeting in response to the recent indictment of Officer Corey Budworth for allegedly assaulting a photographer with his baton during as an overnight riot broke out last August.
"Unfortunately, this decorated public servant has been caught in the crossfire of agenda-driven city leaders and a politicized criminal justice system," the Portland Police Association said in an initial statement Tuesday after a Multnomah County grand jury indicted Budworth on one count of fourth-degree assault related to an incident that occurred on Aug. 18, 2020.
That night, according to the police union, a group of about 200 demonstrators – many equipped with tactical helmets, faces covered, and armed with a variety of weapons – descended on the Multnomah Building in southeast Portland. Multiple dumpsters were set on fire, buildings were defaced, and windows were broken. A riot soon was declared at the planned event after someone from the crowd launched a Molotov cocktail into the Multnomah Building, setting it ablaze.
Officer Corey Budworth was indicted. All 50 rapid response unit resigned.
