Those things definitly effected his loss, but Im trying to figure out what exactly made him lose the black vote. After Goldwater whites went back to voting republican, blacks didnt.
Maybe it was the Civil Rights Act of 1964? Something that LBJ got credit for, but it got its start in a speech by Kennedy.
You do realize that Southern Democrats comprised a significant opposition to that bill - they, in combination with one Texas Republican, could have filibustered the bill in the Senate and did so until cloture was finally called?
Republicans saved the Civil Rights Act -- not Dems.
But Johnson got all the credit because he signed it into law......rat bastard that he was.
I find it particularly revealing that after LBJ left office, he proceeded to drink himself to death. A fitting end to a barbarian. But I digress.
