These photos are of Jim (the new owner and son of the original owner) and I (and Casper the Polar Bear), the day he bought the ’63 Bug convertible from me. Jim was with his father the day they drove the car off the showroom floor in 1962 and his dad taught him to drive in this very same car… Jim is now going to teach his 15 year old son to drive in the car.

Suffice it to say, Jim would NEVER have known about the car being for sale, had it not been for his accidental discovery of the BaT listing. He saw the listing photos, remembered having a red VW Beetle convertible in his past, scrolled through those photos and noticed the California original black plates on the car, the alphanumeric sequence he had remembered his entire life, then realized it was his own father’s signature on one of the close up photos of one of the many original owner’s cards that had remained all these years, with the owner’s log of documents.

Although Jim’s father had passed away many years ago, Jim had  saved one of the original factory keys to the car, all these years, and when he came to look at the car, he pulled that very same key out of his pocket and unlocked the driver’s door with it. We shook hands on a gentleman’s agreement at that moment, no money exchanged, and Jim came down to pick the car up the following day, for the hour drive home North, coastal route, top down, 75 degree sunny day.
