5 one-liners to fight back against your right-wing family members at Thanksgiving dinner from The Raw Story

1. There’s no first-hand knowledge. It’s all hearsay.

I mean, except for Mick Mulvaney, who admitted it on live television.

2. Attempted bribery isn’t in the Constitution as a crime.

Actually it is. You know what they call “attempted bribery?” Bribery.

The Constitution cites “high crimes and misdemeanors” as a guide for impeachment. Attempted bribery falls under that. In fact, so does speeding in a school zone, which is considered a misdemeanor in some states.

3. He wasn’t successful, so it doesn’t matter.

That’s not how the law works. As John Oliver pointed out, if a terrorist tries to blow himself up on a plane and the vest doesn’t go off, that doesn’t mean he’s innocent.

4. Presidents make deals all the time.

Presidents don’t make deals for their own personal benefit.

As “Last Week Tonight” host John Oliver explained it, Teddy Roosevelt’s famous quote “speak softly and carry a big stick,” didn’t mean he wanted people to take all of the sticks for his own personal stick collection. Ronald Regan never mandated East and West Germany use his own private BobCat company to “tear down that wall.”

5. We should just let the election decide it.

That’s not how the law works, nor is it how the law should work. If you break the law, you face the consequences, whether you’re a child, a teenager, a Congressman, Felicity Huffman, a Vegas kick-line dancer, or the president of the United States. No person is above the law. At least, that’s what it’s supposed to be like. If we want to start handing out loopholes for the rich, famous, and elected officials, let the GOP put that up for a ballot initiative in all 50 states.

If a guy running for Congress is caught embezzling millions for his campaign fund for his own personal business that is in bankruptcy, no one would say he shouldn’t be prosecuted, and we should just let voters decide.

2. None of these will work

because they are all based on facts and logic.
You would need arguments sprinkled with hate and racism to convince a Trumper.

10. There are also too many multi-syllabic words for Trumpanzees.

Just say out loud, "It's called Turkey Day for more than one reason."

3. I just say "Russia. Russia. Russia."

As in. .. "Please, stop promoting Russian propaganda. We are Americans and patriots. Russian talking points are not welcome here." Then, we all get out our kazoos and start playing God Bless America.

20. You know what works?

When some right wing Trump Humper brings up his shit, I just say: I quit paying attention long ago, Politicians Are All Crooks.
they think for a second, nod agreement and leave you alone.

Comment to writer on his statement: If we want to start handing out loopholes for the rich, famous, and elected officials, let the GOP put that up for a ballot initiative in all 50 states.

Forget that, Trump merely issues a presidential decree in a tweet and steam rolls ahead. Republican Senate, DOJ, and The U.S. Supreme Court have his "six" all the way, no matter what he declares..........no matter how illegal, corrupt, or un-constitutional...

He has proven for three years he is a master of this, he doesn't even need loopholes for the rich and oligarch donors, his Republican Senators, all his ass lickers, and for what has become the entire Republican Party........

5. They also don't understand hearsay

Even if they are lawyers, they have forgotten the basics if they are in a field other than trial litigation. I've actually seen this.

It is not hearsay if not offered to prove the truth of the matter asserted. If it is offered only to prove that it was said, then it is not hearsay.

How about just going to a Thanksgiving Family dinner to be with your loved ones with no hidden agenda.  If you go prepared to do battle you are better off staying home and having a pot noodle and a wank.

One more thing for which to be thankful: Not having any DUpipo in my family. We have more important things - to us - to talk of during our holiday get-togethers.

It seems to me they don't know what "one-liner" means. It means 1 (one) line, not one paragraph. The following would be examples of one-liners:

The facts amount to a damning case against the president.
No, the case against Trump is built on suspicions, insinuations, hearsay, and various irrelevancies.

We have established that bribery (or attempted bribery) occurred.
No, the hearings didn't establish bribery/extortion/whatever your focus group thinks you should call it..

The case against Trump is airtight.
No, actually the central claim, that Trump withheld aid for the sole purpose of hurting a potential political opponent, gets more and more ridiculous the more you think about it.

The president did this for his own benefit.
It is irrelevant that investigations might benefit Trump if there was reason to believe that there was corruption in Ukraine, Burisma, and yes, even if it involved the Bidens.

There is widespread public support for impeachment and removal from office.
If that were true, democrats would be moving forward with it without reservation.

Republicans don't accept the impeachment because they live in a news bubble.
No, data shows that liberals live in a news bubble, and republicans and moderates do not.

Also, I find it hilarious that the readers of these left-wing sites need their half-assed, poorly formed "arguments" spoon fed to them.

The family members wouldn't get to his stupid point 2 before being escorted out the door, maybe backhanded.  I might be in trouble with my wife but doubt it.

There is irony here, in that democrats may actually cop out of all this by saying they want the American people to decide.

Just stay home and be miserable and let the rest of your family have a nice holiday. I am sure that would make them happier than if you showed up and pissed on their good time. :loser: :loser: :loser:

Must be nice! What I get to look forward to:
1. An international studies assistant professor brother
2. Limousine liberal sister
3. Militant liberal BIL
4. Militant liberal BILs militant liberal dad. Why on earth my parents invite them over too is beyond me

Politics during Thanksgiving?????????? Not a good idea.  :mental:

If you are using Raw Story and John Oliver to make your points you have already lost.

Normal people will have no idea what Raw Story is.  If you surveyed 99.99% of the nation, they'd probably think it is a porn site.  Which it kind of is, porn for liberals.

DUmpmonkey, you're going to be stuck when they come back on you with 'Really, and what exactly did Mulvaney say, and how did the cross-examination go?' or asks you to explain 'Then why wasn't what Biden did extortion, and why wasn't using the IRS to suppress the Tea Party a high crime or misdemeanor when Obama did it?'

I guarantee if you're the prize moron holding the Lib line against a Red family, the show isn't going to stop when you drop your memorized bon mot, and no crowd is going to jump out of the decorative bushes by the front door and start clapping.

The international studies Turkey decided to debate on a holiday a few years back. Whenever one of his talking points wouldn't hold up, hed run back to the daily KOS for something else. It was great to watch
