they are attacking. they're attacking
her.
this bunch of alleged leaders that are currently in control of the federal government can't function unless they have a "them". someone has to be after "us", or liberalism makes to sense. why do I need government to protect me if no one is out to get me? (that's also why republicans shouldn't ever use the phrase, "fighting for you" on the stump, but that's a different subject).
but it's a loser of a strategy to sound dire warnings about big insurance, big oil, and big banks, when the entire country is infinitely more concerned with chaos that big government is creating.
It’s Time for Democrats to Attack, Pelosi Says
If Washington normally blends the business of government with electoral politics, this week signifies a turn toward an unalloyed electoral brawl.
Democratic Congressional leaders have sent members home without resolving their greatest outstanding disagreement with Republicans, over the Bush tax cuts due to expire at year’s end. After months on the defensive as Republicans surged in the polls, Speaker Nancy Pelosi calls it time for Democrats to attack.
“You have to understand what fighters our members are,†Ms. Pelosi told a group of columnists late last week. Indeed, she ascribed the Democrats’ political travails to their refusal to “play patty-cake†with powerful economic interests as they pursued a health care overhaul, new regulations for the financial industry and energy legislation capping carbon emissions.
“Now our challenge is to tattoo the practices of big insurance, big oil, big banks and the rest†onto Republican opponents, Ms. Pelosi said. “And our members feel very good about doing that.â€
Republicans face a different challenge as their House and Senate candidates enter the homestretch. In stump appearances, direct mail, television advertisements and debates, they aim to keep voters focused on the sources of discontent that have brightened their chances of regaining power all year.
