"Man of Steel". It was just about as disappointing as every other attempt at duplicating the success of George Reeves.

Big Dog is right, and I didn't care for any of the Christopher Reeves interpretations of the man of steel. They weren't awful per se, but not a bit better than mediocre in entertainment value.

Christopher Reeves was a ***** Superman.  The worst was the final movie that culminated in the Man of Steel catching all the world's nuclear missiles in a big net and throwing them into space.

Totally 80s.

Over the past couple of weeks we have watched a lot of movies that we have on DVD.

Iron Man 1,2, and 3.
The Incredible Hulk.
Captain America.
The Avengers.
Thor.

Star Trek Into Darkness.
Reds 2.
Cowboys versus Aliens.
Prometheus.

I think there were a couple more, but not sure what they were.

Mrs. E and I went to see "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" directed by and starring Ben Stiller.

We were pleasantly surprised. I thought the acting was very good, script also very good. Stiller did some things with angles and display of credits that was a little unusual too. The female lead, Kristen Wiig, was unknown to me. Not ravishingly beautiful (but still easy on the eyes), and 40 years old, she did a great job. I didn't know anything about her, but see she's been on SNL and a few other films I've not seen before. Sean Penn has a small role in this film, which is the only down side - that punk needs his ass beat on a daily basis.

No sex and no nudity, which is a good thing if a little unusual.

It's a good yarn, and well worth the money to see it. I don't think this film is Oscar-material, but I don't care about that. I just like a good story.

Out of 3 stars, I give it 3.

I watched A Royal Affair. It is about King Christian VII of Denmark, his wife, Caroline Mathilde, and the personal physician, Johannes Strunsee.  Interesting story, but sad ending. It had subtitles, but was easy enough to follow.

Kick Ass 2 on New Years Day which was good.

The Descendent last night which reminded me of a glorified soap opera.

I mentioned Walter Mitty, but I didn't know of Danny Kaye performing that role.

If he did, he sucked. Why do I know this? Because he was a redhead.  :-)   :fuelfire:

It's been decades since I saw the original with Danny Kaye, but I remembered it as soon as I saw ad for the remake. It must have been good if I remembered it that from that long ago.

Flight

Not a movie that I'd watch again, but I found it mildly entertaining.  Denzel Washington played a believable drunk.  The movie was too dark to be wrapped up with the touchy-feely feel-good ending imo.  Ending simply wasn't credible considering the nature of the character.

Interesting observation. I saw the film too, and while I never spend more than 5 minutes analyzing ANY film (I'm after somewhat cheap entertainment and little else), I thought he gave a credible performance both during his drunken debauchery and, after the epiphany happened.

Some drunks/druggies do come back from their version of hell. And I think Denzel showed how that could be done.

The film definitely was dark, though. Dark for a reason, and we ain't talking race here. The idea that a commercial pilot could drink and drug to the extent that Washington portrayed is dark all by itself. The whole scenario is doubtful in that way since the FAA and the airlines, through medical exams that are pretty damned thorough, tend to weed the problem children out before they become full-blown, like Washington certainly played.

That's good to hear.  Watching that movie is enough to make one want to sniff the pilot's breath before proceeding down the aisle.

I just got back from watching Lone Survivor.

Quote
Lone Survivor is a 2013 American war film written and directed by Peter Berg, and starring Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch, Ben Foster and Eric Bana. It is based on the 2007 nonfiction book of the same name by Marcus Luttrell and Patrick Robinson. Set during the War in Afghanistan, the film dramatizes the failed United States Navy SEALs mission Operation Red Wings, in which a four-man SEAL reconnaissance and surveillance team was tasked to track Taliban leader Ahmad Shah.

Two thumbs up.  They say that there are a few departures in historical accuracy from the actual events, but nothing that twists the truth in a malicious way.  From the authentic look of the picture--weapons, uniforms, equipment--they had cooperation from the military in making it.
