Can't Connect To Modem Normally
« on: November 13, 2012, 03:45:27 PM »
The Verizon tech. just finished installing everything.
(from dsl to fios)

He had a problem.

The pc will not connect to the internet .. unless I use the usb adapter which is strange.

The pc is connected to the modem but without using the usb dongle .. the pc wont connect!?

He (tech) told me that something within the pc is not picking up the signal??

I don't understand that because it shows that there are connections available and shows the modem but the tech couldn't get the connection to work?

When he typed the password in .. a message would keep coming up that the connection was 'unrecognized' or doesn't exist??

After a lot of tries, he went to the adapter.

So now, I have to use the adapter on this pc and purchase another one for my better half's pc!
(I am now connected to the modem 'and' the adapter)

What's confusing is that at one time, this pc was connected to a netgear router for dsl and it worked fine??

Any ideas?

Thanks Everyone

Does the pc in question have an internal wireless adaptor ? Is the PC connected to the modem via a physical connection - USB cable or UTP ?

If so the new network created from the modem/router might be of a type that adaptor can't connect to , thus you need the USB adaptor.

If the pc in question doesn't have an internal adaptor - you will need to USB one to connect to the wireless net anyway.

If the pc in question is physically connected via USB - it might be a service only port for config and not a actual network connection.

Is a tech coming back out to work the problem?

What is your expectation for how the pc connects to the modem?

What is this usb adapter?

Just off the top off my head...set up the correct connection, after physically disabling on a hardware level, all other possible connections.
