How does one go about this?

Embedding flash objects has been disabled on the website for security reasons.  I'm not sure what other video formats are supported by the board software; I'd have to look into it.

Yeah, I tried the flash tags with no successful result.

Because there's a mod for it?  I don't know what the default options for the SMF software are... it is possible that it was the only one available at the time.  I did find a video embedder that should work with most sites.  I'll download it and check it out.

Flash Videos can directly inserted into the forum software, and hence the server. There are exploits and viruses that can be embedded into flash videos. When using YouTube, we are using their server to display these videos. When doing that, it is essentially a redirect, not actually using our own server and software.
