He seems a little obsequious and the usual bluster and smirk is gone.

I hope Joe eats his lunch. Professionally, carefully, but without hesitation.

And this is written like a leftist hack media personality, the narrative and story is written before the event actually takes place.  It makes no difference how poorly Joe did (it sounds as if he did), the party line is just to follow the script.
