:banghead: I never even saw the pickemup I barely hit last night. Not much damage to his truck (right rear quarter panel), but mine will be about $1800. It goes into the body shop on Monday for 4 days. First accident since 1984. :banghead:
No structural damage; just plastic body parts and some pounding out dent in fender.

Total suck! I hate plastic cars. I am sorry for your troubles, but glad you are ok.

That sux. It's more of a pita than anything. Glad it wasn't any worse.

Thanks, guys. State Farm will give me a rental for $0.00, so it's more of a PITA than anything. It'll cost me $100 for our deductible.

Don't be surprised if they simply replace that fender. My understanding is the body shop guys don't do a whole lot of pounding out, filling, shaping, sanding, priming and painting these days. It's a lot cheaper time-wise just to replace the component, prime and paint.
Sorry to hear of the accident...... :p

Those low impact fenders aren't designed to be fixed, only replaced. Yes the body shops do more replacing than fixing today,as required by insurance companies.
I'm betting the damage is more than $1800 also. I'm betting the bill will be closer to $2500 to the insurance company.

A new fender would have cost over $200. They'll repair the damaged one.
-
That stinks. I'm sorry.
-
If they still made real bumpers there wouldn't have been hardly any damage.
I miss real bumpers.

That's what I meant to say was bumpers not fender. Those damn low impact bumpers were supposedly designed to break away reducing vehicle damage and human fatalities. what a joke.

Well, as I understand it, the idea for the breakaway stuff is to diffuse the energy that would otherwise wind up in the human body.
The Indy cars are designed that way too and when they crash, they litter the raceway for DAYS. But the stats show fewer injuries and deaths from the energy having been diffused.

Ahh yes... The crumple zones. They may reduce injuries, but I still miss real bumpers.
These modern cars get totaled in a crash that would only need minor repairs back when they made real cars, with real steel. (I am talking lower speed accidents, not highway speeds).

Haven't heard of many highway crashs at 200 MPH. O-)

having an accident these days is an expensive deal.
(keeping fingers crossed and touching wood - my last at-fault accident was in 1992. My car wasn't touched, but my changing lanes while the guy was in my blind spot forced him off the road. He took out a roadway sign and his car was rather banged up.)

Mine was in 83. Also knocking on wood here.

If you have an accident that activates the air bags, kiss your vehicle goodbye. It's way too expensive to replace it.
Anyway, I got my truck back on Wednesday. It looks like nothing ever happened. I am pleased with the work they did.

About a decade ago if an airbag deployed it cost about $1500 to get it replaced. May be a little cheaper now.

I said air BAGS. Multiply your cost by at least 2.

Tis true, In a luxury model car multiple airbag deployments can run 3 - 4K TO Repair.
Just out of curiosity what was the total repair bill on your truck ?
-
Though I am sory to hear about the truck and the issues you will be dealing with, I am really glad that you are okay!!! You are okay right??

I'm fine, never had any problems due to the accident. The truck is also just fine now!

Why do drivers like to hover in blind spots ? I get through them as expeditiously as possible, or just fall back.

$1756.00.

They covered all of it except for the $100 deductible.
-
$1756.00.
I guessed $1,800 actual damage & repair but figured the body shop would pad the estimate/bill by $500 or so. Not bad from just a pic eh.
Did you say your deductible was $100 ? you must have a hellish premium.

He was in the process of passing me, rather quickly, and when I looked I didn't look carefully enough. The accident was my fault, though I was not cited. This occurred in Germany - not sure why I didn't get a citation, but I didn't. Insurance took care of the whole thing as far as I know. I never heard a thing about it.

$382 twice a year.

$382 twice a year.
Must be nice. I almost pay that a month. full Coverage on two vehicles valued at about 50K.
Have a clear record now, hasn't always been that way though

$382 twice a year.
It will go up until they get their payout back, and more on top of that.
Modified to correct typo

Because of my clean record, it won't affect my premium at all.

Nice, and I would add that reassurance doesn't change my opinion of insurance companies being necessary evils.

:bawl: :bawl: :bawl:
My very first brand new car in MY NAME, a KIA 4 door piece of shit, and weeks later a young kid at work with his first Car of any kind parked his on a slope in neutral and it rolled into my back bumper.
Surprising the amount of damage a car gently rolling into another can cause. I think I could have done more damage had I kicked the bumper wearing sneakers. 2 small dents and perhaps one long scratch across the bumper.
The estimate for repair was around $800------Yikes, what got to me was there was a baby seat in his car.
Hubby took things into his own hands as I refused to put in a claim. He borrowed one of those dent suction thingies and they popped right out, [AS seen on TV ] went to the dealership and for $5.00 bought a small bottle of paint to match the color, and Bingo, looked good as new. Upside was the kid willing to cover for hubby when he needed a day off, and his wife packed an extra lunch for me with his so I was feed free for months.
Bumpers my ass they are good for attaching a licence plate to, not much else.
Someone mentioned Air bags, we have had a rash of Auto Dealerships loosing these things by the dozens up here.
Inside jobs and outright crooks. Saw an ad for a new car that has 8, yes 8 of them front, back ,on both sides and in the back. Forget stealing the hub caps boys, go for the air bags.
