Lobbyists: Hiring the homeless to stand in line for them to get into Congressional Hearings.

CNN just did a report on this. Senator McCaskill is introducing legislation to ban this disgusting practice.

3. That's the worst part. You laugh at Seinfeld because it's absurd.

This story sounds so absurd, I don't even know what to do. I think shaking my head in disgust is most appropriate.

5. there are folks here who would (and have) unrec an OP of mine wishing DU a splendid day. I won't win any popularity contests here. That's OK. It's not why I'm here, and what can you do but laugh at that kind of infantile pettiness?

Hmmm.  Very curious, very peculiar.

A few days ago, the cali primitive and the Wal-Mart primitive were at each other's throats in the anti-Semitism forum, the cali primitive winning, and now today, the cali primitive and the Wal-Mart primitive are buddy-buddy, chummy-chummy, lovey-dovey, kissie-smoochy, humpy-bumpy, in-and-outy.

7. I haven't unrecced it..

But as someone who would be homeless but for the kindness of my daughter and son in law I find the attitude toward the homeless who will lose some desperately needed money a bit callous.

And we all know that nothing will be done to help the homeless who were making a few bucks off this.

But they're taking away the chance for some primitives to make a few bucks standing in line.

6. Disgusting that a homeless person might be able to make a few bucks?

I find so many things in life are a matter of perspective..

If I were the homeless person Sen McCaskill was trying to put out of a very meager few dollars I might feel I was being targeted.

Things look very different peeking uprange than downrange.

8. Being opposed to Lobbyists extending their crass efforts to own Congress lock, stock and barrel is not being opposed to the homeless. This is a disgusting practice.

9. Do you think anything compensatory to the homeless will be done?

I don't, I think those homeless who will lose money on this are just SOL..

In fact I think it's somewhat likely that *accepting* money for this will be made illegal rather than *offering* money for it.

That's just the way America rolls.

10. The homeless should be given real support. Not an insulting "few bucks"...

Job training, counseling, temporary housing.

How you justify the exploitation of homeless people is beyond me.

11. That's the next thing on the agenda?

Taking proper care of the homeless?

Right?

One wonders if the AdBot primitive was thinking of the Wal-Mart primitive:

I never tire of the DUmbass' rose-colored phony projection of "the homeless".  In the world the Goonies want us to believe exists, every "homeless" person is Aunt Em, Uncle Henry, and Dorothy, who just lost the farm.

They can get a job like the WAL-MART greeters...."The breadline is over there and the soup line is over here....be sure to kiss the OBama statues ass on the way out."

But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

A very few of them seem to have a faint glimmer of understanding about "Freedom to contract" and "Free enterprise."  I'm sure it won't last, of course.

Here in San Jose there are private charities that do just that.  One that I have some experience with (I volunteered there in High School, and recently my church has started organizing groups to go on Saturdays) is Sacred Heart Community Center.  They have food assistance, including special no cook bags for the homeless, a clothes closet, they collect blankets and sleeping bags for the homeless, they have a job center where they will help people search and apply for jobs, they provide short term housing assistance for people who are facing a situation where they are short money for rent or mortgage, they have after school tutoring programs, and other programs.

I know that there are shelters in San Francisco that also try to help homeless people get on their feet.  I know of an Orthodox Christian family homeless shelter that provides, apartments on site for families to stay at after school care for kids, provides meals, and helps parents find, and keep, jobs.  They also welcome the children back for a variety of after school and summer programs to keep them succeeding in school, and they help families find more permanent housing.  They are however pretty strict.  Everybody is expected to eat dinner together, there is a curfew, there is a bedtime for the children, and adults are expected to do basic chores to keep the place running. They do have other rules that they expect residents to abide by.

I'm certain that most major metropolitan areas have similar programs for the poor and homeless, and this is definitely an area where private charities can do a much better job than a governmental organization.

AHA!  There's the rub.  Private charities push their bullsh*t Christian values on the helpless.  That's unacceptable!  Needy people need to be provided for within the framework of their own values without restrictions (other than those dictated by the legitimate government).  Anything less is no help at all.

Besides, private charities' barrels have bottoms.  They aren't dependable.  What if taxes get so high folks stop donating to these charities?  What will happen to their victims?

Only government has barrels opened on both ends.  It is the only way.  Nothing else is dependable or secular enough to qualify for promotion.
