Eunice Kennedy Shriver dies at 88
« on: August 11, 2009, 07:31:50 AM »

Quote
BOSTON (Reuters) – Eunice Kennedy Shriver, who emerged from a powerful male-dominated political family to found the Special Olympics and become a leading advocate of the mentally disabled, died on Tuesday at the age of 88.
Shriver died after she was hospitalized recently in Hyannis, the Massachusetts town on Cape Cod synonymous with the Kennedy dynasty.
"Her work transformed the lives of hundreds of millions of people across the globe and they in turn are her living legacy," her family said in a statement.
She was married to Sargent Shriver, whose long public service career included starting the Peace Corps under Eunice's brother, President John F. Kennedy.
Eunice was born July 10, 1921, the middle child of the nine children of Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. and his wife, Rose.

Maybe the only Kennedy family member that did good work. RIP

She was a hardcore socialist, but rather benign by current standards.  She lived to a ripe old age.  May she have a deserved peaceful rest.

RIP thank you for all of your hard work with the people normally would not care for.

The only Kennedy I can think of without throwing up in my mouth.

She was a good and decent woman who helped a lot of special needs people before it was PC to do so. RIP.

Indeed - Rest in Peace. She is the only Kennedy that I liked, I think because of her proactive approach to the mentally handicapped. The Special Olympics have given many special needs people worldwide something that they and their families could be proud of forever.  :taps:

Agree, miskie - she was a socialist, but she always seemed like a really nice lady. If that's her real hair in that pic, it sure didn't thin with age. Anyways, I was hoping she could out-live Ted. Her community service and charity work will live on. R.I.P.

So brother Teddy was too sick to show at his sister's funeral... I wonder who the hell has been casting his votes in the Senate?

I was asking the same thing.  This proves that it is not only great minds which think alike.

Can they have a proxy voter?

I don't think so - I'm fairly certain that if you miss the vote, you miss the vote. However, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that they have allowed him to phone in votes, as one can do at auctions -even though (As far as I know) there is no provision allowing such a thing.

Amazing.  A thread about a liberal democrat passing away, and not one bad thing said about her.  I don't think the same could be said about any conservative and the DUmmies.  Someone there probably rejoiced when Mother Theresa passed away.
