Having a global view...
As many of you know my mom lives in Mexico.
Well it happens to be that all the riots, revolutions and rumors of such have been in the news down there for some odd reason. I mean between the local news talking of the war on drugs, which is a real war... and the BBC... Deuche Welle, even CNN-I, she has been able to see how our lovely world is going down hill.
So tonight I was talking to her... and she knows I happen to march at PEACEFUL pro union marches. Heck, the recent ones in San Diego the only reason the cops don't join in... I mean the cop, or two... is that they are in uniform and rules prevent that. But that is how peaceful they are. So tonight she begged me, since peaceful ones have gone violent... in places like yes Greece, Portugal, and now the riots in England, to stay away from them.
But that is the global view.
Two points that matter here.
1.-No the US is no longer seen as STABLE outside our lovely borders, and we should not either. They are outside the box so it is easier to see. It makes want to go to the web and find out what Deuthe Welle, for example, has been saying of the debt ceiling debacle... that was the wake up point.
2.- When those outside your borders start to see that... it is time to pay attention...
Oh and finally... outside of our borders... the US is now seen as truly an empire in decline, just a matter of time before we finally admit it.

Interesting conversation at the repair shop
So I took the car to the shop this morning... and of course they had CNN on the storm in the east.
Now it is wickedly hot round these parts... so the lady besides me turned to weather...
Well I mentioned that I would not want to be anybody at an EOC in the East Coast right now...
Well she said, and I quote... "we need to pray for them!"
"Ok, I hope the people went to the store and got ready with food, water, batteries..."
"Well they still need to be practical but we need to pray for a miracle..."
"Yes, prayer will help you, but people in the path of the storm need things that cannot be delivered by any god."
She dropped it, another gentleman asked, if I believed in any god. He was insulted I guess.
I told him... if there is one it really does not play favorites or play a role in human history. If such a good existed then all the horrors and tragedies would be stopped for the righteous right? Oh and do not give me the story of job.
So do you believe in god...
Not in one that plays favorites at all in human history. Perhaps there is a god particle (Higss bossom) but that god really has no time for us teeny little critters living on the third planet going around a yellow start in an insignificant arm of the Milky way...And yes, before you say it, I also believe in science and evolution and rational thought, which also means getting ready is the rational thing to do. Pray only after you get ready... if that is what you need to do for your own religious reasons. But your first priority is to get that water, not hope it gets delivered.
He looked surprised and shocked... you have to understand making this statement in that particular part of the county. means he just met a rare quantity... and that goes for the both of them.
I really get tired of people pushing their views on me. And yes I mean it... if there is a god (the big bang might be the place) it really does not intervene in human history... but for those who believe in a god... get ready and then pray... serious.

Because of my expertise in political discourse and infrastructural engineering, I submitted the following letter to the editor after the bridge collapse in Minnesota.
The unsound state of nation's infrastructure
Regarding “Minn. bridge collapse kills 7†(A1, Aug. 2):
The philosophy espoused by the Republican Party of lower taxes has led to massive infrastructure failures, starting in New Orleans during Katrina, followed by the steam pipe explosion in New York City, and now in Minneapolis-St Paul.
The mantra of lower taxes has reached its logical conclusion: The nation's infrastructure is failing. We have been here before. In fact, this is 1927 all over again. What will it take for many Americans to finally understand this: Paying taxes is patriotic, and those taxes fund the commons?
Perhaps a couple more infrastructure failures will do the trick. Perhaps the ME culture will win out, and the country will join many developing world countries where disasters such as Wednesday's are everyday occurrences.

this is purely anecdotal, but we have a local initiative, pushed by our own version of scott walker... city council member Carlo de Maio...
Care to guess how many ROBOCALLS I have goten from this asshole to sign them? By my count five... just now the last one. He is at a vons oh 25 miles from me collecting sigs...
Five robocalls, he must be having a heck of a time collecting them.
There is more a local signature gatherer tried to convince me it was to PROTECT the pension system and walked away when I demanded to see the ACTUAL petition and left the area by the time I came back out of the store.
But the way I read this is... they are not getting the signatures they need... otherwise why so-far five robocalls?

I did a quick search on Carlo De Maio, and the closest I came was to a San Diego City Councilman named Carl DiMaio.. I am assuming this is the correct person, but with Nads, Who knows for sure...

I have a friend that just lost power in Eastern PA, she says it's just a moderate, windy rainstorm, and she isn't sweating it, she expects her power to return soon. This whole thing has been hyped to provide a contrast between Irene and Katrina, it's become a campaign tool for the anointed one.

The true extent of the tragedy probably won't come to light until a couple of months from now,
when falling leaves reveal the trees full of rotting corpses.

Being the optimist I am, I figure all of the bodies in the trees will be exposed and festering just in time for Halloween. For extra effect, I can put on some zombie makeup, climb into a tree and jump out at the passing kiddies. Fun !

While you help build the current meme that OWS should not be allowed to peacefully assemble to petition the government, I'd like you to read this little piece of antiquated writing....
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
Now I'd like you to re-read this... "or abridging the freedom of speech, OR THE PRESS." Now why would I be nasty enough and bring this about? As the rights of the people to peaceably assemble are under attack, so are press rights. Reporters, most likely not working for the corporate media apparatus, have already been arrested at OWS events. How long do you think until YOU, the most compliant of "press" people, are also under attack?
It is a thing to consider, as you push that meme... because tomorrow it might be you.
Nadin, who at times does indeed play reporter and is aware that my rights to COVER these protests, are just as much in risk as those of the protesters to well, assemble and petition their government.

But people one reason why obese people really get frustrated is because we as a society are judgmental of them in ways that truly we never use with either bulimic or anorexic individuals. And now we are starting to do things like discriminate for jobs. And I get it, this gentleman cannot in any way, shape or form be a firefighter. Take my word done the job.

I don't know about that Gina, look at all the jobs we females have in life even if we do not paid for it. Men also.
All mothers and most fathers at one time become EMT's when the kids fall off the roof. Fire fighters when Uncle Joe after a family get together falls asleep and drops his cigar in a sofa cushion. Life guards when the little ones are in the tub, and later on Cops when those little ones grow into teenagers and their friends start hanging out at the house.
Gina, if you add up every Job you have had since 18 months old starting with your job to behave yourself, on to helping with chores, you have had at age 10, perhaps 20 if you add in looking after your younger siblings.
Jobs are responsibility's paid or unpaid. Part of the reason why Children of the wealthy who have never had a JOB in life are so much more trouble then kids from the lower class that have had responsibility most of their early life.
Today with my children's generation I find it is easier to push the broom then to push the broom sweeper. Kids that rebel from chores and parents that find it is easier on themselves to do the Jobs the kids should be doing then to track them down.
Besides if a parent insists a teen age girl stay home on a weekend and help wash windows and laundry, this child will run crying to a school guidance concealer and claim abuse to their rights to be fed, clothed and allowed to socialise with those they wish. Few are there for the parents Rights to raise their children they wish, parents cannot even grab a son by the Collier and drag them to church today.
So I am wondering about this health care system that keeps a adult child the responsibility of their parents until age 25-26.
WTF, when does a child become and adult, why do parents have to support a child for health care when they are old enough to have had 4 baby's with 4 mothers ??????

Actually that is in all seriousness what a lot of political reporters do with debates and speeches. I am not looking forwards to that now that one incumbent has finally accepted to take on the other for a debate.
Last time around I overlooked a very minor fib, I knew where he was coming from... as a former medic. But I got whiplash when he said it. No, you cannot give chest compressions in water, but most folks really don't care.

in my distributor it is channel 46 if I remember correctly. I happen to turn to them when we have a local weather alert.
They are owned by NBC News, a subsidiary of it, and they are a NATIONAL NEWS OUTLET.
I know you are convinced none cares about you... I could make the same argument, did you know of the wild land fire we had two weeks ago here in the back country in San Diego? But I don't... I am not that negative. And in fact, I was one of the nooz bunnies getting the info out there.
But truth be told, people care about LA, and care deeply... some of the problems LA has are due to the LOCAL political oligarchy, by the way.

It appears about 99.9% of the time, it refers to "Grand Theft Auto," some sort of television show or computer fantasy game.
A few times it refers to the Greater Toronto Area.

...formerly Communications Workers of America. I am proud to be a union member. I have a decent contract, with wages and benefits the CSU would dearly love to throttle, because of the power of collective bargaining. We need more, but we wouldn't have what we have without the union.
on edit-- BTW, our graduate student TAs just organized under the UAW. They won a contract with major improvements in salary, benefits, and working conditions. WOOOHOOOO!!!

I hate plumbing. It is just dirty, hot and nasty Tom hates it, too. O-) :whistling:
I finally tacked my slow drain with the snake and removing the trap. But, God I wish it was less intense of a workout in a confined space. I remember getting my snake oh over 25 years ago. It is a good snake, but I just hate all this. On the plus side I did save some quid if I managed to fix it. Otherwise, I will have to get the plumber with the fancy snake.
