Judge Sotomayor has explained very little about one facet of her legal life: Sotomayor & Associates, the solo law practice she ran out of her Brooklyn apartment for several years in the 1980s.
In her questionnaire, Judge Sotomayor says she was the “owner” of Sotomayor & Associates, which she described as a consulting business she operated on the side from 1983 to 1986. During this period, she also worked, first for the Manhattan district attorney’s office and then as a member of Pavia & Harcourt, a large firm in Manhattan. ...
White House communications officials said the judge no longer had copies of the tax returns that listed the income, and any deductions, that she attributed to her outside work.  ...

If she ran her "law firm" out of her apartment as the Slimes article indicates, wouldn't that give her a business tax write off for her apartment?  It seems like a tax dodge since she only did a minimal amount for friends and family.

The time frame involved was the heyday of "Home office expense" scamming before the IRS targeted it for audits, it's entirely possible it was pure tax-dodging.

That was just one of many "Tax Shelters" of that time. Remember Bush #1 saying, "Read my lips, no new taxes." then he got blamed for the biggest tax increase ever. Well, he didn't raise taxes, he just did away with a lot of democrat created tax loopholes, the "Tax Shelters". The deal was that the democrats couldn't balance the budget without a tax increase. With the increased revenue from the eliminated "Tax Shelters" they were supposed to balance the budget.....THEY DIDN'T..... and "read my lips" came back to bite him in the ass.....He got blamed for a huge tax increase.... never believe/trust a lying ass democrat.
