Ulterior Unity



I've walked among the rank and file
of those who run in flocks
and walk and talk and work and think
like mass production clocks.

They flaunt their herding attitudes
and spout impassioned platitudes.

While assuming solidarity will
always make the weakest strong,
they assume their trusted shepherds
will never herd them wrong.

To me they said:

Come join us here.. in unity..
the welcome fires are lit.

And then they said:

Just cast off dear individuality..
you'll have no need of it.
