Why is it that the SS pyramid confuses them as much as the food pyyramid?
There is no virtue in compulsory government charity, and there is no virtue in advocating it. A politician who portrays himself as caring and sensitive because he wants to expand the government's charitable programs is merely saying that he is willing to do good with other people's money. Well, who isn't? And a voter who takes pride in supporting such programs is telling us that he will do good with his own money— if a gun is held to his head.

Tax corporations

Does it take a friggin sledgehammer to pound it into these people's heads that corporations don't really pay taxes, they just pass the cost onto the consumer.

OK DUmmies...try wrapping your pea brains around this analogy:

I price and sell apples for $1.00 apiece. The gubbment sez "We're gonna tax you 40%" I say "OK". Now I price my apples at $1.40 apiece.  :mental:

We just keep printing up more money then everyone will have money.

All is well.
It doesn't make any difference. No matter how much money the muslim prints, the same people will end up with it. Inflation doesn't change losers into winners.

And by DUmmie logic now you're making 40% more profit so you should be taxed more.

“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

Look this is doable. We just start making money out of thin air...wait we have been for the last three years under the donk congress headed by Nanzi and the man-child. THAT'S IT!!!1111!1 We just keep printing up more money then everyone will have money.

All is well.

Or we could plant money trees.  That would be good for Mother Gaia too!

A big surprise, a family member at the age of 23 has a heart attack. they have a wife and 2 kids to suport.  They can no longer work.

Your 17 year old son comes home to tell you tearfully he has knocked up his girlfriend, 3 weeks later you find out he has Cancer with a 9 month time line to live.

A man with 5 kids is killed in an industrial accident.

A woman sole suport of 3 kids is shot in a drive by shooting.

A woman who has never been in the work force due to raising 6 kids is told her husband at 35 has been hit by a truck,

All under 55 years old, what do we as civilized people do to help them.?

Donate to DU in their name so they can get a star. We can post their stories at CC.
Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

Shoot Vesta, how about I just give them all your address so you can give them a big old hug??

But Series there Hugh, a couple of your examples would be covered by other insurances.  Did you happen to catch the thread about teachers not paying into SS?....  Interesting....  BTW could you see your way clear to putting another P  in support or are you all P'd out?? :fuelfire:

Wow, that vestanumbers has one hell of a family! I'd steer clear of that bunch, for fear their luck would rub off on me.

Well, little does vesta realize that in just about every case she listed, SSI would come into play.  A wife whose husband is killed on the job not only gets life insurance, but gets HIS SSI benefits, for example.

Oh I suspect she knows, but, in her own convoluted way she was trying to make her point by appealing to 'our better selves', the, 'there but for the grace of God go I ' argument.  In other words, she doesn't care about facts she wants to play on emotion.   :thatsright:

That said, in a piece of irony, I happened to read an article in Foster's today while waiting at a local hospital.  The article?  Social Security having to dig in to the IOU's.  I didn't have time to read it before I was called ( I was in and out in 45 minutes, excellent service in my book ) and it is not on their web page.  Of course it could have been an older paper.

ETA Link to article referenced.  Vesta you may want to take a peek at this one.

In the industrial accident, workers comp would come into play.

The 23 year old guy with an unlikely heart attack?  They're doing wonderful things with stents nowadays.  Don't even have to put you to sleep or slice you open.  Snake some stents and place them artfully, and voila, the guy's good as new.

There are all kinds of safety nets, Vesta.  One of my renters was pregnant by her fiancee who was killed by a paper machine.  Terrible and tragic.  She has plenty of safety net money so that she can provide a nice home for herself, her other child, as well as the son of the killed man.

As for the 17 year old very young father with 9 months to live.  Sometimes bad things happen to good people.

Someone needs to break the news to vestanumbers that she is not eligible for the Top DUmmy award on the basis of posts here. It appears she's campaigning, but as with everything else, she's all confused. She really needs to leave this board, and post exclusively at the DUmp. If she would do that, she'd immediately be a frontrunner for the award, and with so many entertaining DUmmies shutting down, the DUmp really needs someone of her caliber. Can you imagine a DUmp thread with vestanumbers and StraightStory discussing medical woes and skydiving? DUmmy Gold!

Furthermore, if the young lady of the 17 year old cancer patient is in New York, she's in luck!  I just renewed my workers comp disability portion, and did you know that in New York, if one of my girls gets knocked up, serving french fries, I guess, this insurance covers her pregnancy?  What a state, my beloved New York!!!!!111!!!   On my dime!!!!!111!!!!
