This reminds me of the Nancy Drew story's that were actually written by 5-6 different people.

From what I have heard during the depression writers needed jobs so some publishers hired
not one Caroline Keen but groups of writers, the Hardy boys was another example, Trixie Belden and who knows how many more.

When Rex Stout died in the 1980's not long after I found books that had people trying to write using his Nero Wolfe and the books were awful.  We fans of Nero Wolfe knew the caractors as well as our own family and we knew right off, these caractors are not real.

I remember reading stories by some famous writer, maybe Harlan Ellison, about how these writers would have all-night poker parties and one person would be upstairs writing a chapter of a novel and after an hour or so, he would go to the poker table and the next writer would take over.

The point of the game was to write the next writer into some box or another.
