New guy on CC
« on: August 15, 2013, 08:01:00 PM »
Hi there CC. I'm new here. Figured I'd join the forums to chat, debate, etc. with like-minded individuals. I'll give you a little bit of information about myself.

I'm a resident of the state of New York (I'm deep behind libtard lines), and I've always had an interest in political discourse and ideas. I'll give you a little bit of insight of my political journey from then to now. At first I was a leftist (14-15), more specifically I was an anarchist but then slowly drifted toward Communism down the road. Please note when I say anarchism I mean the leftist form thereof, I was definitely not an ancap. Basically in my mid-teens I was an egalitarian, I believed everybody was equal, and the reason for all the problems in this world was some big bad force pushing everybody around (communists say this force is capitalism, anarchists say it's capitalism plus all other forms of authority, basically they hate the same things.)

As I grew older however (16-17), I was getting really tired of hearing leftists whine, and I found myself distancing myself from that collection of ideologies. Seeing what bullcrap the SJW's post on Tumblr, and how my former kin supported them, that helped me distance myself from them a great deal. Fortunately this happened, for I would not be here now. Regarding what I am now, I don't really know, but I definitely have a lot of ideas which overlap with conservatism. So I'd say I'm a conservative of some form, but I don't really care what I'm called, I believe what I believe and that's final. It doesn't matter if I'm called a nationalist, conservative, reactionary, etc.

I'll be around, gents.

Hi

I usually wait for about a dozen posts before forming an opinion on newcomers, so if you don't mind could you humor me with a few questions ?

 Do you believe everyone should be guaranteed;

1) a job with a "certain" wage
2) food
3) shelter
4) health care
5) spending money

Thanks, I think.

Regarding a minimum wage, yes. Everything else, no. Labor is a commodity, and its value is dynamic; ever-changing, but I still believe that workers should still be paid a minimum wage. While I do believe that people should have food and shelter, it should not be guaranteed by the state.

Welcome aboard the Cave. Glad you are here. Hope your stay is long and prosperous.

Regarding minimum wage, a rhetorical question...Should a minimum level of job performance accompany the minimum wage you support ?
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

I do not support a minimum wage, for several reasons which have been posted hereabouts.

Yes. They should. This level of job performance will be decided by the management, and they'll pay them if they feel that that level has been met.

I feel like y'all are going to start to get me to question my minimum wage position.

That's what we are here for.  The major problem with a "federal" min. wage is the wide variance in cost of living across the country.  There is also the Rush argument of why not set it at $100.00 per hour.

Oh...And welcome.

Thank you for the welcome.

On minimum wage I believe the states should have control over that. Costs of living are very different. Especially when you compare the North and the South.

You live in NYC?

You know it smells down there? If you live there you may not notice but for us upstaters when I near the Tappan zee I could gag!
"Liberalism is an essentially feminine, submissive world view. Perhaps a better adjective than feminine is infantile. It is the world view of men who do not have the moral toughness, the spiritual strength to stand up and do single combat with life, who cannot adjust to the reality that the world is not a huge, pink-and-blue, padded nursery in which the lions lie down with the lambs and everyone lives happily ever after."

Not in NYC, but around it, it's essentially the same thing mostly. Only instead of giant apartment complexes you get houses, the atmosphere is the same however. Population density, people, etc. are the same too, and it's still just as pricey as the city, if not, just a little bit cheaper.

I never really notice the smells, you got that right. I'm used to breathing in all that crap so I feel at home in it.

Minimum wage: if all the illegal aliens were gone there would be a shortage of labor and no need for minimum wage laws. Employers would pay whatever it took to get labor for even the most menial jobs.

That's my position and I am sticking to it.

But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

Once again, we agree!

Bottom line: Protect and enforce our borders! Set up a posted zone into which the criminal immigrants will be shot. Two or three dead criminal aliens, and the problem would be greatly diminished.

Welcome, new guy. It looks like you have evolved, which is good. By the time you're 21, you'll evolve further still; and by the time you're 41, you'll look back at yourself and laugh at the things you believed. Most of us do.

About minimum wage-

1.A government mandated minimum wage sets a floor price on goods and services used disproportionately by the poor. Lower income people spend a higher percentage of their income on goods and services made/sold with minimum wage workers, such as fast food and convenience store items.

2. A government-mandated increase of a minimum wage increases the costs of those goods and services at a rate geometrically greater than the increase. If a product passes through the hands of three minimum wage workers on the way to the consumer, the cost of the item must increase by three times the raise in minimum wage- because increases in production cost are always passed along to the end user.

3. A government mandated minimum wage encourages the hiring of illegal aliens at "slave wage", while it limits opportunity for new legal entrants into the labor market.

4. The combination of minimum wage, and government benefit programs which provide more per week than income from work, feeds the "sit-on-my-ass-and-let-the-government-pay-me" mindset the Left exploits for votes and power.

Think about those four statements, and see if they change your perspective on minimum wage.

Both of your arguments against the minimum wage are fair, and they do have me thinking. I'll look more into it and the economic arguments as well.

Welcome aboard  :-)

I am also a convert of sorts.  Not a super lib or anarchist, mostly a fence sitter.  While I had always thought of myself as a Democrat, I found I was always cringing at their ideas.  Took awhile, but I finally figured out I was a conservative, and probably always was.
