Title: Info on food value for Scout merit badge.
Post by: JohnnyReb on June 23, 2011, 05:34:10 PM
Son is working on his "Gardening" merit badge. He has an answer for the following question but I don't think it's going to be good enough. Can you help me find a site that will answer the following. Him, me and we haven't had any luck in finding what I think they're looking for.

2. Give the food value of the following.

   a. Three root or tubar crops.

   b. Three vegetables that bear above ground.

   c. Three fruits.

Do you have to have a website or reference? I live down here in farm country and thought I might be able to help. But only really have first hand "common sense" type answers. Have you looked at homefarming.org?

I don't know what they want when they say "food value" - but I'd choose my vegetables from this list http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_vegetables - making sure to pick different families each time.

Fruit - I'd select Apple , some form of citrus , and Mango.

For the tubars, I'd select potatos, carrots, and maybe beets
