Ferrell/Bush asks the audience for a moment of silence to honor our troops who died in Iraq and Afghanistan. At the performance I saw, most of the audience members went silent but a few tittered nervously. Who can blame them? This is a comedy show. They were expecting a gag, and they soon got one.

After a few seconds of silence a phone on the stage rings, and everyone laughs. The relief is palpable. Hurrah! That thing about honoring our war dead? It really was just the setup to a joke!

Ferrell/Bush is startled by the noise too, because he's already told us that the phone is just a prop that isn't connected to anything. He picks up the phone, listens for a second and says, "I didn't know 'Annie Get Your Gun' is playing! I love Tom Wopat too!" Then he tells the audience that he was afraid God was calling him on the phone. "Swear to God - I thought I was having a heart attack in my butt hole!"

Everyone is burned out on him -- he made too many movies too quickly and his shtick has been tossed on the stack of now-forgettable comedy actors like Jim Carrey, Mike Meyers, and of course, Adam Sandler, who was never funny in the first place.  This crass act will be the nail in his dying career's coffin as sure as Tom Cruise jumping on Opera's sofa.

The joke would be perfectly funny if he chose a less controversial subject, i.e. "My recently departed comedy coach, Bernie Whatsinberg" or something.

No need to poke fun at the grief of people who fell in the middle of a very serious war.

I guess he's betting the family of fallen troops don't go to his shows and feels no threat of having his teeth shoved down his throat.

I've only seen a couple of his movies and didn't find them very funny.  Then again, I think most movies made by the stars of SNL are pretty craptastic, and should have been straight to DVD.

the fact that he is actually considered funny in some quarters is indisputable proof that there is nothing but crap pouring out of hollywood.
