Oh, I also forgot to mention that I volunteer 40 hours a month at a local domestic violence shelter.  Mostly office and clerical stuff, but I also work as a youth group counselor with teens affected by violence.  As you can imagine, I'm literally surrounded by liberals when I'm there, but they're not like the type you see on DU.  They're very normal people who have their hearts in the right place, but tend to listen more to their emotions than their intelligence when it comes to politics.  If I ever come across as left leaning, trust me, I'm not.  I've just learned that we do need some social programs, but I also firmly believe that every social program needs an end game.  Get what you need from the program and get out.

It's not too bad. About the same as the Oklahoma side. More than likely, you drive within 1/3rd of a mile of where I live since you go to the OK side. Used to party over there a LOT back in my teens. Now, "The Cut" is closed off. Bastard Government !!! (I live just off of SH 91, not far from the Denison Dam.)

The Denison Dam, is that off 75?  If so, I know the area.  Big casino right there.  Choctaw, I think?

Oh No, I ain't in Okie-land. SH 91 (i forget which exit it is, maybe 72?) is what people take to go across into Oklahoma, mostly. At least for the Lake. Choctaw Casino is some 15-20 more mins from me.

Small?  Well, here we go....  I lived in Lewisville between 89-92 and again in 00-03. (Shout out to chitownchica!)  My SIL graduated from Marcus, taught in Lewisville before her kids were born, and my BF's sister lives in Little Elm, where all three of her kids go to school.  So there.   :-)   It is a small world, and Eisenhower State Park is a cool place to camp.

Way!  I know two children (actually more than that if you count their inlaws) that are enrolled there right now.  No offense, but I loathe travelling to LE.  BF's family has holidays up there, and it is sooooooooo far away.  Takes almost an hour one way as we live in the Garland/Dallas area.   :thatsright:

We love LE, but getting in and out is tough.  We actually live in The Colony, but the kids attend LE because the wife teaches there.  I have kids at LEHS, Brent and Chavez.

Wow- really is a small world.  We probably know some of the same people.  Little Elm used to be tiny, but I think it has had a population explosion.  Is that right?

I taught at Milliken middle school. Last I heard, the school was converted to a 9th grade center.  I used to know quite a few teachers at Marcus.  I left teaching in 96.

Dang it Tots- we might have been neighbors  :cheersmate:  I know we've talked about the Arlington connection and how I worked on Six Flags Dr/Randol Mill a few years ago, but I don't think we've discussed Lewisville.
When did your SIL graduate? Most of my students went to Marcus.  When I was there, the Highland Village/Shores area seemed like the countryside. Texas Hamburger Factory on 407 was our go-to for lunch.  There was also a little Chinese restaurant and a Sonic close by. My teacher friends and I would get out of school, stop by Sonic for a vanilla coke, and then head to the dock of the YMCA day camp on the lake.  Good times.
