Unfortunately, I can assure you that I'm not engaging in any of the fun activities which sometimes lead to STDs or drunken stupors.

Okay, that's all good, but why spending so much time over at our old home?

You're missed here.

I'm not. Until today, I hadn't posted at CU since the middle of December.

Well, it's kind of like having a 1930s style overstuffed ottoman in the middle of a Finnish moderne living room, but one gets used to it.

By the way, sir, did you ever do anything about those basement stairs?

No embarrassment if you haven't gotten to it yet; winter's a bad time for even interior home improvements, the stench of paint and all that permeating a house with tightly-shut windows, and there's the matter of money.

But I'm curious how it's coming along.

Well, I decided to go with the pricey rubber treads but I don't yet have the money I need to buy them.  :(

Well, but it's best to put them down when you got the doors and windows all open to provide ventilation anyway.

Like in spring, summer, or autumn.

I'm sure the cash'll find its way to you; you really have to do something about those stairs.

Well, having the stairs bare does keep the cats off them.

I never paid attention to those rubber, or plastic, things on stairs.

Are they something that's glued down, or nailed down?

I honestly don't know.

I believe the rubber is adhered with specialized glue. Okay, that just sounds wrong.

But that's just on concrete stairs, and yours are that wood product, right?

Frank,

I've been mulling over precisely this issue for a couple of months now. Didn't know whether to sand down and restain the stairs, slap a few coats of polyurethane on 'em, carpet them, or what.

The answer is to sand down, restain, polyurethane, then put on/glue those rubber step thingies on each step.
