About 80% of what Ron Paul says makes sense. It's that other 20% of "conspiracies all around us" that makes him a magnet for some loony people.

It's that 20% that turns me off big time.  I actually like a lot of his ideas.

It will have to be someone who can counter Obama's cult-of-personality.  Neither

Obama's cultish hold over middle America was shattered the day he won the Nobel Peace Prize. It made a glaring, flaring fact that it really was a cult based on fantasy.
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

:agree:

Mustang says..."But Romney is handsome which may garnish the female vote,"

That's insulting to women...particularly conservative women. We are intelligent enough to realize that a pretty face is not what "cuts it"...it's the intelligence, moral character and beliefs, and personality behind the face.

 :yeahthat:

Also, I like neither of them.  I would hope someone emerges in 2011 that would make it a no-brainer.  BUT, if I absolutely HAD to choose between these two, it would be Huckabee.  Romney seems disingenuous to me, and although he may be considered to some as "attractive".....he's more of a snake oil salesman to me.

I've always thought the same thing....I don't know if it's the hair, the perpertual tan, the too white teeth....it's like he's a total phoney in appearance that it's hard to take anything he says seriously.

I have a strange idea...lets elect someone who isn't a life long politician....

That was a bit on the rude side, eh rich_T ?

------------------------------------------

Anyway, it's interesting to see people's responses. I would like to see someone fresh be the GOP contender as many on here would, but I also like Mitt Romney and would support him without hesitation. I like Huckabee to a lesser extent but I don't think he will run.

Perhaps some so called conservatives have more tolerance for liberals.  I do NOT.

I don't do limp dicked PC bullshit.

But the moonbats don't see it that way.  They still make excuses for everything he hasn't done, and ignore what he's really doing.

Whoever runs needs to have to the balls to call him on his bullshit policies publicly.  And when he/she does, the rest of the Republicans need to stand up too, instead of waiting to see how the dust settles.

I don't like either of them.  Both are big government.  Apparently Huckabee doesn't see increasing spending 65% as being a big government liberal but I do.

And everyone knows about Romney and the health care debacle in MA.

Actually what they really need to have the strength to do...is withstand the blistering attack by the 5th column that will come to Obama's aid...the media.

Whoever dares to speak the truth about Obama in 2012 will see a media attack launched against them that will make what they did to Limbaugh looks amateurish by comparison.

The right strategy is to prepare BUT not present anyone until the last possible moment.  The librats will tarnish and destroy anyone we put up now.  Look what they have done to Sarah Palin.

Well I don't know her, so I don't know if she's a liberal.
But I can't take Ron Paul seriously either. I consider him to be a liberal who happens to be fiscally conservative.

I can't take R. Paul seriously when he thinks that the war on terror is a farce and his anti-Israel stance is borderline anti-semetic.
His idea that if we hide behind our borders and cut our ties with world is the way to national security is lunacy.

I think we should kick the U.N. out of New York and withdraw our membership and funds, but breaking ties with our closest allies--
Israel, Japan, UK, Turkey, Germany, Australia, etc. is ridiculous.

oh welcome back BKG. Aren't you aware that R. Paul's "blowback" diplomacy is based on his idea that the reason we were attacked on 9/11 and other terrorist attacks against us is because we support Israel? And therefore we should stop supporting Israel and the terrorists will stop attacking us.

You should be aware of this since you are Mr. Libertarian on these boards.

Oddness - I tried to highlight a section of your post and it didn't work. How the hell do you consider him a liberal?

I'm not a fan of his foreign policy... but I also don't think he'd at all have the opportunity to take protectionism to the level he would desire.

You think that if he was elected president (would never happen) , he would not pull our troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan, cut support to Israel and our allies, and dismantle our military and air bases around the world? That's not liberal?

Yeah the guy is pro-life and is a fanatic fiscal conservative, but he takes it to the extreme to the point that we would never send aid to foreign or domestic situations. And other than his pro-life stance, he is a liberal on social issues.

Our deficit could use a bit of his policies. He's not a liberal, he's a libertarian. Big difference.

I don't care if R. Paul is a liberal, conservative, republican or Democrat, he can't possibly be taken seriously as a potential presidential candidate, its like saying Al Sharpton would be a possible candidate, they are both crazy, bottom line.

Get back on your meds NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,

Oh really, go back on my meds.....  Guess you did not see the poll that scrolled on Fox.  As I recall his name was on it.  He is screaming for an audit of the fed and a few other popular issues.  I am not necessarily a Paul fan but his name may still be in the mix.

Personally I would love to see someone who is not a career politician in the mix also.  I notice the media made a big deal out of Tommy Franks prostate surgery, I think the libs are more concerned about him or one of the other popular military folks running.
