Apology after calling Obama a liar

WASHINGTON - -- When President Barack Obama addressed Congress Wednesday night, he got an unusual greeting: "You lie!"

The comment from Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., could be heard throughout the House chamber and on television in response to Obama's remark that his health insurance plan would not extend to illegal immigrants.

"I've never seen anything like that before," said Rep. Earl Pomeroy, D-N.D. "We do not invite the president of the United States into the House of Representatives and hurl insults." Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., Obama's foe in the 2008 election, called the remark "disrespectful" and called on Wilson to apologize.

So where was the outrage when Dingy Harry Reid called President Bush a liar and refused to apologize?  Granted, that didnt happen during a joint session of congress but it was the same level of disrespect or worse.


WASHINGTON - Harry Reid, the Senate majority leader, has called President Bush a loser and a liar and has referred to him derisively as King George. Mr. Reid has also apologized - but only, he likes to point out, for the "loser" line.

Seems to me the only thing Joe Wilson is guilty of is "definition of character"....

I thought Jow Wilson nailed it. Said so on the blog. I got a foreign liberal on the comments side, pretty myopic.

Congressman Joseph Wilson (R-South Carolina) standing up and calling Bo a liar; was it okay, or was it wrong?

Of course, he was speaking truth to power, and we all know how the Democrats, liberals, and primitives like that, speaking truth to power.

And he most assuredly guaranteed his re-election for life, if that's what he wishes to do, given the patriotic nature of South Carolinians.

However, I have mixed feelings about this.  I could be wrong, but while I recall Democrats in Congress calling George Bush a liar, and publicly so, I don't recall them interrupting a speech.  They might have, but I don't remember, or missed it.

It's probably a debate over "style;" since it works so effectively for me in real life, I think it would've been better if Republicans, every time Bo lied, simply got up from their seats and their backs turned, walked out the chamber in utter silence.

While everyone was thinking it, it was still wrong to do.

The man is still the President of the United States.  You don't treat him with such blatant disrespect, especially when you know the eyes of the entire nation are watching.

I was sort of hoping this would happen, every time Bo lied, another Republican congressman would do that.

I'm sure Bo told at least 178 lies, and so it would've been great, these Republican congressmen walking out one at a time.

Nothing wrong with it at all.  That man....sent to D.C. to represent the people of his district in South Carolina...said exactly what his constituents and most of America are feeling right now.

And he's got the back bone that most of us have been saying Republican Congress Critters need.

If he hadn't said it last night when he did...no one would have ever known about it because the MSM wouldn't have covered it.

Like I said elsewhere...the only thing he did wrong was apologize for it.

I just wish he hadn't been so quick to turn around and apologize.  He said what most people in this country are feeling.  IMHO he truly spoke on behalf of the American public and there is no reason to apologize for that.

If he'd been wearing a uniform yes he'd have been out of line.

As I said in the poll thread...had he said this in any other venue none of us would know about it....because the MSM would have ignored it.

He did it in the only venue and at the only time that it wouldn't have gotten sandbagged by the MSM.

I feel the venue was wrong.  I can understand getting caught up emotionally, but it would have been a stronger statement had he stood and exited with quiet dignity.

If he was sure of not being re-elected he must have felt he had nothing to lose, but I don't know the particulars in his case.

I wonder how many others in the audience really wanted to do as Wilson did and secretly admire him?

 I actually missed the remark as it happened as I was screaming at "The One" LIER so loud at the TV. I just knew something wonderful happened by the look on ole Nancy's face...lol  that was priceless!

While what he said was the truth, that he apologized for having said it (not sure if he apologized for what he said, but just that he was out of line shouting it) doesn't bother me strategy-wise, and here's why.

If someone in the WH or in the MSM tries to hang it over his head, they're going to look petty.  He apologized, end of story.  The American people are a forgiving people if you come out and say you did something you shouldn't have done  It's when pols start lying and hemming and hawing that people get tired of it and get upset with the individual.  The word is out there that Dear Leader is lying.  When it's demonstrated over and over again to be true, even people who don't recognize it now and who aren't already little cult followers will have no choice but to admit that, while maybe he shouldn't have yelled it, it was still true, and wonder if they wouldn't have done the exact same thing if they were in his shoes.

IMO, the focus needs to be on Dear Leader saying anyone who misrepresents what's being offered will be called out.  You see, that works both ways, and there's no group that's been more dishonest about what's being offered than Dear Leader and the Dems.  So yeah, let's call out Dear Leader for the lies he's telling since that's what he wants.  Dear Leader needs to learn to keep his big mouth shut or he might just get what he's asks for, and in this case, he will.  And who better to give it to him than those of us who are the defenders of the truth.

Southerners are as a whole polite, genteel creatures. Some people mistake their mild ways as a sign of weakness, lack of spine/backbone/brains. Some assume that because of their mild manners that they can be easily run over, used, abused and otherwise be mistreated. THAT'S A DAMN MISTAKE. When a southerner has had enough, he's had enough. A southerner is not afraid to get in your face and inform you of that fact. ....and he'll back his stand with every fiber of his being. To bad they outlawed duels.

You should see the look on an obnoxious Yankees face when they're confronted by a southerner thats had enough. They can't believe that the mild mannered person they've been BS-ing in the past can so suddenly go ballistic on them....talk about a dog tucking his tail between his legs.... :rotf:....I love that "Deer in the headlights look" they get....or better yet....that "I don't know which way to run" action of a squirrel in the road. ... :rotf:

Apparently Mr. Wilson has had enough of Obama....remember it was Obama that encouraged his followers to bring a gun to the fight...to get in their faces. Well, somebody has got in Yo-mammas face and the dems don't like it.

Mr. Wilson may have been impolite but like TxRadioguy says, it's time somebody got in Obamas face where the MSM can't screen it out.

Similar things were happening here as well.  I was amazed by both the speed and number of epithets the SigO was able to string together conjugating the verb lie ending  :censored: socialist bastard.  (But then, she went to parochial schools)

Shouldn't have done it, but he apologized right away.  End of story.  If the WH or the MSM try and make a big deal of it, they're going to come off looking vindictive and hateful towards someone who immediately said they were sorry and shouldn't have done it.  If he had dragged it out over days, it would have been worse.  Now he just looks like one of us regualar folks that made a mistake and owned up to it.  Everyone can relate to that.
