Perusing my favorite dumpmonkey posts, I came across an otherwise innocuous threadstarter by Ban. He was squealing with delight how he got published by a second-tier newspaper in the LA area...finally!.... after dozens of what must have been very erudite letters, at least in his mind.

I've sent at least two dozen letters over the past few years, and finally got published in my local newspaper. I wrote about how the state should impose an exit tax on businesses leaving the state.

So I dutifully meandered myself to the link at the Breeze. Here is the letter.
Leave California, pay an exit tax
Our Legislature must immediately implement exit taxes for businesses leaving the state in avoidance of our majority-approved tax hikes. Why punish the workers who make the business owners rich by firing them and moving to Texas or Arizona? It's not fair.

There are some "Ramtor" names on a Saudi "expat" website, and I don't know any white guys named "Maurice".
We'll see what a deeper investigation reveals.

It's not fair? Really...and all these welfare recipients who got thousands of dollars back (You know the ones that NEVER paid a penny into the IRS to start with.) in the form of income tax refunds...is fair? I know one couple that has been getting between $5,000 and $8,000 a year back on income tax refunds and they didn't pay in one red cent....That is one great place to start with fixing the system. How many millions of people in this country are now getting refund checks that never paid into the system? Cut them off there is probably an extra Trillion dollars right there.

When I lived in the South Bay, the DB was one of those local papers that printed the local news the LA Times or OC Register didn't have time to bother covering, and was about 10 percent (or less) of the circulation of the aforementioned papers. While it's a step above the "alternative" papers of the area, it's not a large step.

I know this isn't a huge risk, but I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that CA loses EV in the 2020 census.

It's just as easy to set up a shell in another state and sell all the business assets to it including the name, then physically move there, as it is to try to relocate a running business and maintain continuous operations. In many ways, it's actually more advantageous to do that anyway. It's also possible just to leave the empty shell behind without actually closing it down while maintaining the necessary minimum filings and licenses for a few years and then quietly folding it.

You clearly don't understand the basic problem in California, businesses leave California because of HIGH TAXES and excessive (and expensive) regulations. What do you think will happen IF California puts an exit tax onto businesses? Do you think they will stay and be willing to pay the tax? ... or maybe they will beat a faster exit for a business friendly state.
The correct solution is to get rid of the current TAX and SPEND crazy Democrats in Sacramento.

I went to a Miss State @ So. Carolina game back around 1994 with my brother and we figured we'd grab some BBQ before the game. Kept seeing the Maurice's billboards on the drive into Columbia so we thought we'd try it. Bad mistake. Putting mustard on BBQ is a mortal sin. Maurice should be shot.

There are quite a few mustard based bbq sauces. For the longest time I had a prejudice again North Carolina's vinegar based BBQ sauce. However, after trying it I found that I had be denying myself a wonderful taste experience. I'm still partial to tomato based BBQ sauces but I guess that different regions have different idea's of what they consider taste.
BTW, most yankees believe that bbqing is just another way of saying cooking out doors.

I'll take my BBQ, thanks all the same. Once the kids are able to handle a little spice, I'm going back to MY sauce. For the time being, I do the ribs with the rub I discovered a while back and some Stubbs BBQ sauce (good luck getting Bone-Suckin-Sauce up here.)

IGA's... and Faschecks for that matter, always have the best meat. Locally owned stores. Fairly cheap too compared to Walmart and around here, Kroger. Their other stuff is usually a little more expensive but they gotta make money somehow.
Never had Stubbs. Pa Perky liked the spicey BBQ sauces. Sounds like he would have liked that. If I run across it down here in West by God Virginia I'll give it a shot.
Bone Sucking Sauce is the best I have ever tasted. Ain't saying there ain't none better now... just saying it's the best I've tasted.

They opened one in San Diego last year, the burgers are very good but some of the options offered on the menu are just plain gross (peanut butter and strawberry jelly burger). Also, the burgers are enormous and the sides are ridiculously huge. We had a lot of leftovers.

And don't get me started on vinegar based BBQ. I can handle it to some degree, but there's parts of Eastern North Carolina where they drown the BBQ in vinegar. "Could I have a little BBQ with my vinegar, please?" No thanks! Tomato based for me.
