MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — There was chaos and destruction in Minneapolis Tuesday night as police officers and protesters clashed over the death of George Floyd.

The outrage began with a video showing police arresting the 46-year-old in south Minneapolis Monday night.

“I can’t breathe! Please, the knee on my neck,” Floyd is heard saying in the video.

A harbinger of things to come?

MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - The apartment complex under construction in south Minneapolis that burned Wednesday night and into Thursday morning was a mixed-use development which would have provided affordable housing for the area.

The site of Midtown Corner is in the former Rainbow Foods parking lot located at East Lake Street and Hiawatha Avenue. Flames ripped through the wood-framed, six-story building Wednesday night and could be seen for several city blocks well into the morning hours.

The rioters have destroyed an apartment under construction. It was meant to provide affordable housing in the area. This is madness!  :censored:  :argh:

In Minneapolis
– Target Lake Street: Looting, graffiti, property damage, fire damage.

Minneapolis police station on fire as Twin Cities protests grow
https://www.startribune.com/twin-cities-protests-grow-after-gov-walz-calls-up-guard/570830002/

Quote
The Twin Cities continued to convulse Thursday in the wake of the Memorial Day death of George Floyd while being restrained by a Minneapolis police officer, another chaotic chapter in America’s — and Minnesota’s — long reckoning with the killing of unarmed black men by law enforcement officers.

Framed by grief and rage over Floyd’s death and uncertainty over the coronavirus pandemic, the day came in waves: Buildings burned. The police chief apologized. Prayer circles formed at the site of Floyd’s killing. Business owners boarded up windows. Post offices closed.

And Gov. Tim Walz called in reinforcements — the first time the Minnesota National Guard has been activated for a civil disturbance in 34 years. More than 500 Guard members have been activated and sent to Minneapolis, St. Paul and other communities, the Guard said in a tweet late Thursday.

A Minneapolis police station has been set on fire. This is getting worse and worse!  :argh:

Protesters storm CNN building in fiery Atlanta protest

Quote
ATLANTA — Protesters set a police car on fire, struck officers with bottles, vandalized the headquarters of CNN, and broke into a restaurant in downtown Atlanta as a demonstration that started peacefully quickly changed tone Friday evening.

Protesters used barricades to break police vehicle windshields and jumped from car to car. Hundreds of the protesters confronted police outside CNN headquarters. They spray-painted the large, iconic CNN logo outside the building, breaking a windowed entrance. One protester climbed on top of the sign and waved a “Black Lives Matter” flag to cheers from the crowd.

Protesters pelted officers who came over with bottles, striking some of them. Other bottles thrown at authorities exploded behind the police line, but no officers appeared to get hit. Protesters chanted, “Quit your jobs.”

The riot is spreading throughout the nation.

The elected officials who are letting this happen need to be arrested.

As soon as the first rock or bottle is thrown, the demonstration turns into a riot and it should be stopped with any means that is necessary.

If this were a bunch of conservatives protesting the closure of churches the result would be a lot different.

As many as 75,000 "agitators" could be targeting the Minneapolis-St. Paul area Saturday night, according to a letter from the mayor of Hudson, Wisconsin, Rich O'Connor.

O'Conner wrote the letter to Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers, calling it a "dire situation" and imploring Evers to send help via the Wisconsin National Guard.

The letter cites the Minnesota Fusion Center – part of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension – alerting Minnesota authorities that "70,000 to 75,000 agitators are traveling today from locations such as Kansas City, Chicago, Ohio and other parts of the country to the Twin Cities. "

75,000 agitators or terrorists are in the Twin Cities area. Very troubling.

The National Guard will deploy troops across 15 states as well as Washington, D.C., the organization announced in a press release.

Governors reached out to activate Guard assistance ahead of demonstrations on Saturday night, when protests turned into violent riots. Even Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti has asked for assistance, saying that these are no longer protests over the death of  George Floyd, the unarmed black man who died in police custody on May 25: “This is destruction. This is vandalism.”

The Guard has announced that it has activated around 5,000 troops as of Sunday morning to deploy to states across the country, with another 2,000 troops on standby. The troops will deploy to California, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Daktoa, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin and the District of Colubmia.

The National Guard should of been deployed when the first sign of rioting happened.

NYPD’S Terrorism Chief Says Unnamed Groups Planned Protest Violence in Advance

Quote
New York's top terrorism official says there's evidence that members of anarchist groups from outside the city intentionally planned to incite violence at protests calling for justice in the death of George Floyd.

Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence and Counterterrorism John Miller said there is a high level of confidence within the NYPD that these unnamed groups had organized scouts, medics, and supply routes of rocks, bottles and accelerants for breakaway groups to commit vandalism and violence. There are strong indicators they planned for violence in advance using at times encrypted communications, he said.

One out of every seven arrests, of 686 so far since May 28, have been people from out of state, according to Miller. He said those arrested came from Massachusettes, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Iowa, Nevada, Virginia, Maryland, Texas and St. Paul, Minnesota.

Antifa is a well organized group and they have planned for a while.

Secret Service agents wounded outside White House, car bombs feared; official says Trump was taken to bunker
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/secret-service-took-trump-to-underground-bunker-amid-george-floyd-protests

Quote
A senior official in the direct chain of command for defending Washington D.C. told Fox News that more than 50 Secret Service officers have been injured Sunday night so far, and that some rioters are throwing bottles and Molotov cocktails.

As observed in New York City and elsewhere, groups in D.C. are planting cars filled with incendiary materials for future use, Fox News is told.

U.S. Marshals and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents have been deployed to the streets of D.C. in an extraordinary move to beef up security alongside the National Guard, local police, and Homeland Security agents, including the Secret Service, the Justice Department confirmed late Sunday. Fox News has learned U.S. Attorney for D.C. Mike Sherwin is heavily involved in the operation.

As authorities clashed with demonstrators for the third straight night, the parish house connected to the historic St. John’s Episcopal Church across the street from the White House was also set on fire late Sunday. The parish house contains offices and parlors for gatherings. The basement, which was also on fire, is used for childcare during church services, and had recently undergone renovations.

The DEA is being deployed. The terrorists burned down St. John’s Episcopal Church. This is total madness!  :argh:

Quote
The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) building was also set ablaze near the White House. The AFL-CIO is one of the nation's largest pro-union groups.

An hour before the 11 p.m. ET curfew in D.C., police fired a major barrage of tear gas stun grenades into the crowd of more than 1,000 people, largely clearing Lafayette Park across the street from the White House and scattering protesters into the street.

Protesters piled up road signs and plastic barriers and lit a raging fire in the middle of H Street. Some pulled an American flag from a nearby building and threw it into the blaze. Others added branches pulled from trees. A cinder block structure, on the north side of the park, that had bathrooms and a maintenance office, was engulfed in flames.

Several miles north, a separate protest broke out in Northwest D.C., near the Maryland border. The Metropolitan Police Department says there were break-ins at a Target and a shopping center that houses Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue Men’s Store, T.J. Maxx, a movie theater and specialty stores. Police say several individuals have been detained.

They even burned down American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) building.

George Floyd unrest: Cities face new looting amid stronger National Guard response, curfews
https://www.foxnews.com/us/george-floyd-riots-looting-national-guard-curfews

Cities across the country started seeing new looting on Monday night as nationwide demonstrations over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis escalated out of control yet again, and as President Trump vowed a tougher federal response.

In New York City, hundreds of looters were seen breaking their way into Downtown Manhattan businesses. In midtown, a group armed with sticks reportedly lit a fire to one business. Other stores such as Michael Kors, Kate Spade and Barnes and Noble were broken into as glass from broken windows covered the sidewalk, KABC-TV reported.

Meanwhile, in Philadelphia, some people were seen actively defying a curfew by staying outside police headquarters.

It is getting worse in New York City, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia.

'We came to riot': Illinois man livestreamed lighting fires, handing out explosives in Minneapolis, charges say

An Illinois man who came to Minneapolis to riot over the weekend livestreamed himself handing out explosives, destroying property and appearing to set a Sprint store on fire, according to charges filed in the U.S. District Court of Minnesota on Monday afternoon.

Matthew Lee Rupert, 28, is charged with civil disorder, possession of unregistered explosives and participating in and organizing riots, making him the first to face federal prosecution for allegedly taking part in the fires, looting and other violence that engulfed the Twin Cities since the death of George Floyd in police custody.

Last Thursday night, Rupert, of Galesburg, Ill., posted on his public Facebook page an invitation for "goons" to join him in traveling to Minneapolis, where he said he was renting hotel rooms and planned to wreak havoc and "take hella good videos."

The livestreamed videos, cited as evidence by FBI investigators in the complaint, show his role in the riots on Friday night and early Monday, including distributing explosives and then announcing, "He's throwing my bombs ... they're going to bomb the police with them."

Matthew Lee Rupert is a terrorist. Here is his mugshot.

Boxes of matches and jars of gasoline spook Minneapolis residents
https://www.mprnews.org/story/2020/06/01/boxes-of-matches-and-jars-of-gasoline-spook-minneapolis-residents

Quote
A dry box of 250 kitchen matches stashed in a south Minneapolis alley; a gas mask found in a trash can in northeast Minneapolis; a salad dressing jar filled with gasoline — those are among the items that residents of Minneapolis and St. Paul have found around their homes.

Law enforcement officials have asked Minneapolis residents to be on the lookout for incendiary items, like water bottles filled with gasoline, that have been stashed in bushes or alleys, sometimes even far from where protests have taken place.

A week after George Floyd was killed, and after days of protests, property destruction and arson, even normally inconspicuous household items are sparking fear when residents encounter them.

Matches, gas mask, and gasoline have been found in the Twin Cities area.

I wonder if people saw someone putting those items for rioters to use.

Cuomo slams de Blasio's handling of riots, claims he has power to ‘displace’ mayor but not ‘at that point’

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday slammed New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio's handling of riots in his city, calling it a "disgrace" and saying he has the power to "displace" the mayor -- although doesn't want to at this point.

"The NYPD and the mayor did not do their job last night, I believe that," Cuomo said of the mayor.

Cuomo spoke after another night of devastation in the Big Apple, after protests in response to the death of George Floyd again devolved into riots and looting. The New York City Police Department tells Fox News that 700 arrests were made overnight. A half dozen police officers were injured, while at least six police vehicles were vandalized.

Cuomo said at a press conference that the mayor "underestimates" the scope and duration of the problem, suggesting he needs to deploy more police.

Antifa arrests coming, concerns over riots heading to suburbia, government source says
https://www.foxnews.com/us/antifa-arrests-coming-riots-suburbs

Quote
Agitators behind the rioting that has paralyzed the country over the past week want to move into more suburban areas, a government intelligence source has told Fox News.

Much of the worry stems from the notion that many in well-armed, suburban, and rural neighborhoods won't hesitate to exercise their Second Amendment rights and elevated anxieties could lead to heavy confrontation.

"Antifa knows this," said the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. "Local and state authorities have to get a grip on this because if it moves to the suburbs, more people will die."

Several analysts pointed to places that have served as something of "testbed" locations – including Madison, Wis., which was ransacked Saturday night, along with quiet pockets of Charleston, S.C.

If Antifa goes to suburbs, it could get bad.  :argh:

A George Floyd protester could face 80 years in jail after social media and her customized Etsy T-shirt exposed her as a BLM rioter who scorched two cop cars.

Investigators tracked down Lore-Elisabeth Blumenthal, 33, via an Etsy page selling the top branded with "Keep the Immigrants Deport the Racists", say prosecutors in Pennsylvania.

US Attorney William McSwain announced that Blumenthal, 33, a massage therapist of Philadelphia, has been charged for the arson of two Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) vehicles.

The attorney's office said there had been "peaceful protests in the early afternoon of May 30 in response to the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis".

It is the White leftists who are causing trouble. I wonder what her DU name is. I hope they throw the books at Lore-Elisabeth Blumenthal.

Minnesota Gov. Walz asks Trump for disaster declaration after George Floyd riots trigger over $500M in damages
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/minnesota-gov-walz-trump-disaster-declaration-george-floyd-riots-500m-damages

Quote
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has asked President Trump for a federal disaster declaration in his state due to “extensive fire damage” and other destruction in the unrest that followed George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis police custody on Memorial Day.

“We need to come together to ensure Minnesotans who were victims of this destruction have access to critical infrastructure they need so they can go to the grocery store, pick up their medication, and live their lives,” Walz said in a statement Thursday. “Together, we will rebuild.”

He also appealed to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for financial assistance to help cover the cost of debris removal, emergency measures and damage to public buildings and equipment.

The riots should of never happened.

Quote
Walz’s office estimates the cost of the damage to more than 1,500 businesses in Minneapolis and St. Paul at over $500 million.

Fires caused at least $15 million in damages to public infrastructure that Walz's office said it could be eligible to receive reimbursement from the federal government.

“We are committed to helping our communities rebuild, but we can’t do this on our own,” said Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan. “While state, tribal, and local budgets are stretched thin by COVID-19, we need everyone to step up, including the federal government, to restore safety and critical infrastructure to our communities.”

Rioting and looting once again broke out in Democrat-controlled Minneapolis on Wednesday night after the police were falsely accused of shooting a black man. Law enforcement officials quickly released a video showing that the man, who they said was a murder suspect, shot and killed himself.

“Groups of people are looting multiple stores in downtown Minneapolis,” FOX9 News reported. “Social media posts show images of people damaging items in a Target as well as broken windows of surrounding stores. Haskell’s liquor store and the Medical Arts building also appear to have been looted.”

Law enforcement officials, who were after the suspect for his alleged connection to a deadly shooting earlier in the day, released a video of the suspect that confirmed that the suspect shot himself as police arrived on scene.

“We’ve got cops from all over the Twin Cities coming out here to maintain order because the citizens of Minneapolis and Hennepin County deserve to feel safe,” said Hennepin County Sheriff Dave Hutchinson. “The people causing problems are going to go to jail tonight.”

Another riot breaking out again in Minneapolis. It stemmed from a shooting suspect who committed suicide.

MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - Minneapolis police released video from city cameras that partially show what happened before a man's shooting death on Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis on Wednesday. Police say the man died by suicide. Police identified the man as the suspect in a deadly shooting at the Ramp A parking structure earlier Wednesday.

A large crowd gathered near the scene and some of the crowd looted downtown businesses like Target, Haskell's, Sak's, Nordstrom Rack and Foot Locker.

Minneapolis police began investigating the deadly shooting at the Ramp A parking structure in downtown Minneapolis earlier in the day.

Minnesota National Guard activated after George Floyd ex-cop released, demonstrators gather in Minneapolis

Quote
The Minnesota National Guard has been activated "out of an abundance" of caution, officials said Wednesday, following the release of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin from a correctional facility.

“Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of Minnesotans, we have asked the Minnesota National Guard to prepare to assist in keeping the peace,” Gov. Tim Walz said.

About 100 soldiers will be activated in addition to another 100 state troopers and 75 conservation officers with the state Department of Natural Resources.

Another flare up in Minneapolis after Derek Chauvin posted bail.

Quote
Upon hearing the news of Chauvin's release, attorneys for Floyd's family called it a "painful reminder" that justice is still far from being achieved.

"The system of due process worked for Chauvin and afforded him his freedom while he awaits trial," a joint statement from Ben Crump and co-counsel Antonio Romanucci read. "In contrast, George Floyd was denied due process, when his life was ended over a $20 bill."

Fears of violent riots as George Floyd trial looms in Minneapolis

Quote
Derek Chauvin, the one person charged criminally in the May 25 death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, is scheduled to go on trial soon, and people are worried about potential further violent demonstrations.

The main concern is that anything but a guilty verdict could bring the twin cities' streets back to the chaos and violence of last May and June.

According to AP News, the city of Minneapolis has taken steps to ensure that the courthouse is extremely well guarded. Concrete barriers have been built all around it and topped with barbed wire, in an effort to protect the building from would-be vandals.

Derek Chauvin is about to go to trial soon. There is fear of riots in Minneapolis.

but the riots are mostly peaceful and our wanna be vice president says the riots protests won't stop and they shouldn't stop so she's got their backs.

besides if it does get out of hand, the left and the media (redundant) will blame it on their boogie man,  President Trump for inciting the violence and start another impeachment shampeachment on him, the Constitution be damned.

Minneapolis to hire influencers to spread messaging during trial over George Floyd's death

The Minneapolis City Council has unanimously approved paying six social media influencers to spread city-approved messaging and updates throughout the upcoming murder trial of former officer Derek Chauvin, who has been charged in George Floyd's death. On Friday, the council approved $1,181,500 for communication with the community during the trial, CBS Minnesota reports.

The city says social media partners will help dispel potential misinformation, and that the influencers will intentionally target Black, Native American, Somali, Hmong and Latinx communities with their messaging. Each influencer will be paid $2,000.

what are the journalistic credentials of these "influencers"?  That they have a million  followers and a billion likes on their narcissistic tweets and posts?  Will they answer the 6 basic questions of journalism (who, what, when, where, how, and why) or will they be "reporting" how they personally feel about the trial and try to influence others to follow their thought patterns?

Does anybody else find this part offensive to the targeted group:

It seems to me that they are looking to downsplain the events of the trial to this group of people of color because they feel the people in these groups aren't smart enough to understand what is going on without somebody to breaking it down into simpler terms. I was wondering the other day about this.  The 'woke' crowd is after several languages due to their use of male and female words.

I wonder why you don't hear them going after ASL?  My wife is an interpreter for the deaf (not any more, but she still retains her skills) and I know quite a lot of sign language.  All of the male signs from from the top of the head, while female signs are from the middle to the bottom of the head.

IE; The sign for boy is mimicking grabbing the bill of a ball cap.  The sign for a girl is dragging your thumb down your cheek.  Dad is holding your open hand with your thumb touching your forehead and pulling it away, while mom is holding your open hand with your thumb touching your chin and pulling it away.

When will they attack the deaf?  LOL

However, for the population it is meant to describe, only 23% of U.S. adults who self-identify as Hispanic or Latino have heard of the term Latinx, and just 3% say they use it to describe themselves, according to a nationally representative, bilingual survey of U.S. Hispanic adults conducted in December 2019 by Pew Research Center.

Minneapolis prepares for unrest during Chauvin trial

Quote
The Minneapolis city government and local businesses are bracing for a new wave of violence as the officer accused of killing George Floyd faces a jury next week.

From now until the end of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin's trial, swaths of the city's downtown will be closed to traffic and strictly limited for pedestrians.

Businesses have begun boarding up windows in hopes of limiting further damage following last summer's riots.

"You might want to consider adding physical barriers, such as boarding or permanent security gates," Minneapolis Economic Policy and Development Director Erik Hansen suggested to local business owners at a recent news conference.

Fear of rioting looms in Minneapolis.

Quote
Some of the most dramatic changes to the city's landscape take place at the courthouse and city hall, with fencing and barricades surrounding the two buildings. One local law-enforcement source said the city should expect " Super Bowl-like security" in the city during Chauvin's trial.

"We want to make sure that it's understood in the community that what we are working to do is preserve safety for those involved in the trial to ensure that the trial can proceed without any hindrance or disruption,” Greene told a local KSTP affiliate last week.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey requested earlier this month that the governor mobilize the national guard to maintain peace during the trial, which is expected to cost the state tens of millions of dollars.

Local activists have criticized the decision, alleging that their presence will only exacerbate tensions and potentially cause more violence.

Chauvin is charged with 2nd degree unintentional murder and 2nd degree manslaughter. An additional charge of 3rd degree murder was dropped by the judge last October.

What I completely fail to understand is, given Floyd's autopsy report (completely wigged out on Fentanyl and a host of other drugs and the cause of death identified as cardiac arrest, NOT strangulation or asphyxiation), why is he being charged with anything, other than dereliction of duty, failing to respond to the perp's claim that he couldn't breathe for 8 minutes, and otherwise being a turd?

I'll answer my own question -- this is politics, pure and simple. This isn't justice. It's politics.

And Minneapolis and the surrounding areas are gonna get trashed regardless.

Why not a change of venue to say, Nome, Alaska? Not much there to trash. A couple of igloos and a shack made out of walrus tusks maybe.  :whistling:

My problem with Chauvin's actions is: You can tell when someone becomes unconscious. Earlier combativeness notwithstanding, once they are unconscious maintaining a patent airway is necessary. That's basic, CPR-level first aid in which all LEOs are trained.

Once Chauvin knew Floyd was unconscious he should have gotten-up, rolled Floyd onto his back, and tilted his head back. he could have still maintained positive control of his prisoner.

"But Floyd was an amped-up, wife-beating piece of shit!" I hear some of you say.

I don't ****ing care.

I believe the authorities have an obligation to provide for the safety and well-being of people detained under their power. It doesn't matter if that person is a piece of shit like George Floyd. The protections under the Constitution and elsewhere aren't for the benefit of pieces of shit, they're to protect the innocent whom the government routinely victimizes during the evolutions of the criminal justice system. If we don't demand proper conduct during the government's interactions with pieces of shit they won't develop the muscle memory to properly conduct themselves when they interact with the innocent.

Lest I sound like I'm defending Chauvin (I'm not -- his record as a cop is spotty at best, with him having been disciplined in his past for overreaching, overbearing interactions with the public), but.

How many cops have been sandbagged by a perp who wasn't secured, yet had gone lax? The cop lightens up and the perp explodes again.

I haven't looked at the situation enough to understand why it took Chauvin and his two cop buddies more than 8 minutes to restrain Floyd. Amped up? You're damned right Floyd was amped up. Adrenalin definitely pumping there.

Add that to the fact that every decision, every movement, every single solitary factor involving Chauvin and his buddy cops will be microanalyzed by armchair quarterbacks (they're called lawyers). The prosecution is going to paint Chauvin and his buddies in exactly the same fashion, if not worse, than the media have painted them over the past 7-8 months now.

I submit there is no ****ing way in hell he's going to get a fair trial. Not there, not anywhere -- save perhaps Nome, Alaska, where the people there are doing their best to keep from freezing to death.

A fair question, but Floyd was handcuffed with his hands behind his back. He wasn't going to explode very much, even if he wanted to do so.

But the rules we demand are the rules we must be willing to have imposed upon us. If we say, "Yeah, but that guy can be treated that way" then we will have no viable complaint when we are treated that way.

A fair question, but Floyd was handcuffed with his hands behind his back.

One PBS report says that Chauvin had his knee on Floyd's neck for 8 minutes 46 seconds. Three plus minutes of that time was spent with knee on the neck after Floyd stopping moving and talking.

There was some back-and-forth between the cops during this time, questioning the procedure they were using to restrain Floyd. Chauvin appeared to be the cop calling the shots.

I was not aware till now that Floyd had been in handcuffs, even before he was dragged out of the car and put on the ground, face down. That was the part I was missing.

I will concede that Chauvin needs to answer for his actions and I absolutely do not contest your point about "the rules." Chauvin needs to answer for his actions, though I will say again Floyd's autopsy report does not indicate that Chauvin killed him, despite the charges. At least, the autopsy report that I read at the time.

Given the political goat**** this entire thing has been, it's entirely possible that the ME walked his report back to show something else. It wouldn't surprise me in the least.

According to "the rules," the defendant may not be able to receive a fair trial by a jury of his peers in Minneapolis. Don't be surprised to see a change of venue request, unless that's already been denied. Not gonna look that one up.

Wanna hear something really disturbing?

Mega-Blue Minneapolis PD still allows constriction techniques. I can see their utility, but Florida banned them back in the 80s after a couple of people died during arrest (also resulting in riots). The problem with constriction techniques is the arrestee may have underlying medical issues that make them susceptible to - you know - dying.

Floyd was just such a person.

Between Floyd's poor, personal choices, outdated policy, and a blasé attitude at the scene, it was the perfect storm to be exploited by the Left.

The same happens with tasers sometimes, other times the taser is ineffective and puts the cops in danger.

Tasers seem to have a high failure rate. However, their underlying virtue is: it's a set of variables outside of the officer's control. It's a mechanical device calibrated by someone else, and other factors such as clothing and intoxication are determined by the arrestee.

Kneeling on someone's neck and when to restore unrestricted airway is wholly the discretion (read: liability) of the officers.

Third degree murder charge reinstated.

Third-degree murder requires prosecutors to prove that someone caused the death of another "by perpetuating an act eminently dangerous to others and evincing a depraved mind, without regard for human life." Legal experts note that the definition of "depraved mind" is murky— as is the legal line between "depraved mind" and the "culpable negligence" standard for manslaughter.

The "depraved mind" standard at this point may as well be the "public emotion" standard.

I would definitely go for culpable negligience.

The thot just got plicker. This development just may result in Chauvin's presumption of innocence and acquittal. (Note that the presumption of innocence disappeared a helluva long time ago.)

In addition to the comment above regarding the link posted above, I note with interest that Judge Cahill had addressed the defense's motion for CHANGE IN VENUE back in November. He TEMPORARILY denied it then, but part of this "settlement" may force him to revisit the idea.

Nome, Alaska, anybody? Hell, it's springtime up there! No problem, right?  :cheersmate:

BREAKING: Prosecutorial Error With State's Last Witness Creates Grounds for Possible Mistrial in Chauvin Trial

Earlier today, the defense rested in the murder trial of former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin, charged in connection with the in-custody death of George Floyd.

Chauvin waived his right to testify on his own behalf, asserting his Fifth Amendment right to remain silent during the course of the trial.  That was not a surprising development.

But what came next was quite surprising, and potentially a critical moment in the case for the prosecution.

The prosecution advised the Court that it would have one rebuttal witness.  A rebuttal witness can be called to present testimony in response to evidence heard for the first time during the defense case.  As is very common, the rebuttal testimony would come from one expert witness who previously testified, Dr. Martin Tobin, and the testimony would be in response to testimony given by a defense expert.

But the surprising part of the prosecution’s announcement was that it intended to have Dr. Tobin testify about newly discovered evidence — a Hennepin County Medical Examiner report on the level of carbon monoxide (CO) in the blood gas testing of arterial blood drawn from Floyd at the hospital.

Mistrial possible?

Minnesota National Guard says members sustained minor injuries in Sunday morning drive-by shooting in Minneapolis

A Minnesota National Guard neighborhood security team says it was fired upon in a drive-by shooting early Sunday morning, with two guard members sustaining minor injuries.

The shooting occurred shortly before 4:20 a.m. in the Jordan neighborhood near the intersection of Penn Avenue and Broadway in northwest Minneapolis. According to a statement from the guard, a light-colored SUV fired several shots at a Minnesota Operation Safety Net team. Operation Safety Net is a joint effort among the Minneapolis Police Department, Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, the State of Minnesota and local jurisdictions.

An already volatile situation.

BREAKING: Judge in Chauvin trial says Maxine Waters' comments 'may result in this whole trial being overturned'
https://thepostmillennial.com/breaking-judge-in-chauvin-trial-addresses-maxine-waters-comments-says-it-may-result-in-this-whole-trial-being-overturned

Closing arguments were heard today in the trial of Derek Chauvin, who is the former officer accused of killing George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minn. on May 25 of last year.

In that closing, the attorneys for the defense brought up their concerns that Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) had threatened the jury publicly when she made a series of comments calling on protesters to "stay on the street" and to "get more confrontational" if Chauvin is found guilty of manslaughter alone.

Defense attorneys said that there would be no way for jurors to have avoided hearing her statements, as the media has been covering this trial in every aspect. The attorney said he didn't know how the jury could be "free from the taint of this."

Maxine Waters's statement could cause the trial to be overturned.

Quote
"I think if they want to give their opinions, they should do so in a respectful, and in a manner that is consistent with their commitment to the constitution, to respect the co-equal branch of government. Their failure to do so is abhorrent, but I don't think it has prejudiced us with additional material that would prejudice this jury. They have been told not to watch the news and I trust that they are following these instructions and that there is not in any way a prejudice...

"A congresswoman's opinion really doesn't matter a whole lot," Cahill concluded, and denied the motion for a mistrial.

Waters called on protesters to defy curfew and to "fight for justice." She stated that she would not be satisfied if he received a sentence for manslaughter—only murder would count.

Black-owned businesses in 'George Floyd Square' plea for help, say skyrocketing crime is killing business

Black-owned businesses near the intersection where George Floyd was killed last year — now known as "George Floyd Square" — are begging for financial help because they say increased crime in their neighborhood is driving their businesses into the ground.

According to the New York Post, "Black merchants near the once-thriving corner of 38th Street and Chicago Avenue said police have abandoned the blocked-off intersection, creating a dangerous autonomous zone that has seen crime spike and business evaporate."

The business owners have been forced to resort to GoFundMe to plea for help and ask for assistance to overcome revenue losses of over 75%.

I hear nothing but crickets from the legacy news media.

I hear nothing but crickets from the legacy news media.

Hearing nothing because that would require responding to consequences like your link here, the possible consequences of their loudmouths making statements like Fire Water's in your post before this one, and because the media and the puppetmasters are trying to move on to the next shiny thing to keep their constituents distracted.
