Hmmm.

Perhaps the elleng primitive will have to do a redstone.

A "redstone" is where the bird-smacking stoned red-faced primitive imitated Christ, and fed a houseful of guests Thanksgiving Day 2007 on two fish and six loaves.

My story of the day (week, month, year!)

Today I made one of my family's favorites, something I haven't done in several years, as my 'family' is scattered, I haven't felt like cooking for quite a while, and cooking hasn't been necessary.

A former 'housemate' of my s.o. and I returned from Argentina Friday, and may stay with us for 6 months. He's around 85, a gentleman with a 'story,' and its clear we'll have to provide proper dinners, regularly. SO, I did Italian sausages w. pasta, and they seemed to enjoy it.

S.O. is from Pakistan (been here 50+ years) and loves to cook. I'm ok with his stuff, but not enthusiastic. SO now's my opportunity to 'show off,' or at least get back into the kitchen (which will be good therapy for me.)

Last week, another friend came for a night. A delightful 'young' man (10 years younger than I?) who's from Rumania originally, lives in NYC, fascinating and cultured, was on his way through, so I did Bittman's Salade Nicoise kind of, and enjoyed it thoroughly! (I did, anyway!)

Wanted to share with y'all.

First up at bat, the Rita Hayworth primitive:

1. Excellent news!

Cooking is good for the stomach, the heart, the head, and the soul. That's my belief, anyway.

I'm glad you're having these lovely "disruptions" in the daily routine. Nothing like having company to inspire culinary adventure.

Keep on cookin', mama.................................

When franksolich has company, rather than making a mess of the place, he takes his guests to the culinary adventure of Valentino's pizza, the best pizza in the world.

3. Romania?

I ask because a family member of mine regularly travels to Romania on humanitarian missions to the villages that were impoverished under Soviet rule. It is the homeland of the Unitarian church, incidentally. The Hungarian community that lives in Romania is quite large and an interesting people, with really interesting cuisine.

4. Yes, Romania, and he may return occasionally. He does travel to Spain and elsewhere (and we may stay in his NYC apartment for a bit, when he does so. He's got a neat old parrot there!)

I didn't know about the Unitarian connection. Andres (Andy) is Buddhist. I believe I'm somewhat 'Rumanian,' + Jewish, that is; don't know that I can trace it, tho.

How 'bout "all of the above"?

Wow, Nazi fugitives, Romanian commies, what a place. But still DUmmies, with the obligatory "significant other" or "partner" reference. Any hint of a normal living relationship would be freeperish.

By the way, what is a Bittman salad? Anyone remember funnyman Bobby Bittman? "How are ya!"

Plus a Pakistani!  Yeesh!

A Bittman salad would come from Mark Bittman, and a nicoise salad features tuna, green beans, and olives on greeneries, olive oil based dressing. It's appeal is mainly in the artful ways these things are arranged.

Yes.  One who relishes Italian sausage, apparently, which is of course pork.  Most unusual.

Gypsies. Dirty rotten gypsies. When their caravans of thieves would come through during my childhood, grownups told us their "cuisine" mainly consisted of robins and babies. At most towns, the police would meet them at the city limits, and escort them through until they were gone. If they set up camp outside of town, anything not locked up would disappear.

Romania has been contributing quite a few young ladies to the American Porn Industry lately.
I think that is their major export.

Figures, it's all about making themselves feel good. I am not very cultured so I probably wouldn't make the cut. :cheersmate:

I really do have to find out their names . . . and do searches on them . . .  :naughty:
