Gays on TV
A recent study shows that HBO is the best with 42% of its programing having gay characters. Showtime is second with 26%. ABC is tops of of the broadcast networks with 24%. NBC and CBS has a dismal 8% and 5%. But even HBO's 42% isn't all it is cracked up to be. I am pretty familiar with HBO's original programing. All of them, except for Hung, has at least one recurring gay character but none of them have what would be a major central gay character such as David on Six Feet Under or the boys on Queer as Folk. Showtime's 26% is probably better since much of it comes from Marshall on The United States of Tara, who is a central character. Much of the time is taken up by 'barely there' gays.

This is all the more striking after having watched Torchwood on BBC America. There the central hero is one part of a male-male couple. It would be like Captain Kirk and Spock being involved in a relationship while exploring space. Or if Jack Bauer and Tony Malena or Brisco and McCoy.

I remember watching TV growing up. Gays were few and far between a rare guest who usually was getting fired, was ill, or had some other gay related problem. We have improved some, especially on niche networks. But I want my gay Monk, or a gay CSI. Or a lesbian Murphy Brown.

It's "Tony Almeida", but one would not expect a DUmmy to be familiar with characters in a horrible show like "24". It's even on Fox.

More to the point, 42%?, 26%?, 24%? That is "good" representation?  Of people displaying a perversion that exists in certainly not more than 1% of the population?

Tell me again why TV viewership is dropping. Every group of characters on a TV show, if it contains four or more people, has to have at least one black, one Asian, and one queer. Just like real life. And they talk about reality shows.

Let's talk about Torchwood for a sec.

Great show, original, fantastic acting, and suddenly- somewhere in the second season, BAMB! the lead is a bi-sexual alien.

Season one he was after the female lead- a hot welsh girl with serious relationship issues...should have been a sure thing, right?

Her boyfriend shows up foe an episode or two- most likely to join all the other red shirts, and suddenly---the crowd starts to like this muscularly heavy retard.

End o' season one.

Season two starts up and it's more about sex than showtime afterhours...with about the same level of nudity and sense.

Jack starts making out with the doorman? WTF, over?

Ah...Jack is an alien who likes it anyway it swings....yeah- that makes perfect damnned sense, you bunch of limey cock-sucking poofters.

Oh....and Harry Potter? Queer as a two pound note.

The more queers TV adds....the more I'll watch the grass grow.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."  Stalin

Jacks not an alien.  He's from something like 200,000 years in the future, and he cannot die.  He was a "companion" on the latest reincarnation of Dr. Who, of which Torchwood is an offshoot.

Everyone trying to sell, or redecorate their house is as well.

My father spent a number of years in real estate, in a metropolitan area no less.  Of all the colleagues of his I met, not one of them screamed "BIG FLAMING HOMO" like half the cast of HGTV does.

The recent Torchwood miniseries was pretty good.  They killed off Ianto.

I haven't been following it lately.  We cancelled BBC from our cable plan, and we haven't gotten the 2nd season on Netflix yet.  I enjoyed it though.  Captain Jack Harkness was always a fun character.

We watched the new shows before BBC had them on. (downloaded from a bittorrent site)
