Cuomo announces bid for NY governor's office
« on: May 22, 2010, 11:37:41 PM »

As details emerge about Andrew Cuomo's campaign platform for governor, a number of key questions about his policy positions have yet to be fleshed out.

The soon-to-be announced Cuomo campaign has indicated that the attorney general will pursue legislation and a constitutional amendment that could prevent large spikes in spending and local taxes, two trends that have been commonplace in Albany for decades.

Little is known so far about how Mr. Cuomo will deal with two of the most pressing fiscal issues confronting state government: Medicaid and pension costs, which affect millions of New Yorkers and are among the largest growth areas in the state budget.

"Thus far, his platform is one that angers the fewest numbers of New Yorkers who vote. The purpose here is to win the election and not create controversy, and he's doing that well," said Hank Sheinkopf, a Democratic political consultant.

Cuomo officials say the Democratic attorney general will fill in the blanks when his campaign begins in earnest next week.

Typical... campaign like a conservative, govern like a liberal.

No to raising state taxes. No to borrowing to close historic budget deficits. Yes to capping state spending. Yes to capping local property-tax hikes. Yes to freezing the salaries of state workers. Yes to trimming “benefits and pensions that are out of line with economic reality.” Yes to charter schools. Yes to slashing by 20% a state government that has, by Cuomo’s count, 1,000 agencies. Yes to nonpartisan redistricting and full financial disclosure.

And all those statements will be in the roundfile about 30 seconds after he gives his victory speech, because liberals are like battered wives.  They bitch, piss, and moan about how horrible their taxes are, how bad crime and corruption are, but still keep pulling the "D" lever, and when asked why, gives the typical battered wife, "But he LOVES me!" type response.
