"Well, bye."
"When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion - when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing - when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors - when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don't protect you against them, but protect them against you - when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice - you may know that your society is doomed."

I always liked Powers Booth - and in "Extreme Prejudice" there was a helluva lot of lead flying around. Is Nick Nolte still drunk?  :rotf:

Is she in or is she out?  What the hell?  I've posted more rants on this subject in various blogs than I care to remember.  Enough with the Kennedys and any other dynasty!  All those foolish people falling all over themselves for the little princess.  Did you see some of those childish articles?  This position will be one of my senators, dammit, and I already have to have Upchuck as it is.  I can do without the blind man and his 82 new taxes, too.

My understanding is, she's out.

Some sort of regret was stated for any "confusion" ( :rotf: ), but she's prayerfully considered and blah blah blah, thanks, but she's withdrawing herself from consideration.

 :whatever:

She needs to go back to babysitting kids or whatever it is she does.

The remarkable and astounding thing is that anyone would consider Caroline Kennedy Schlossinjew worthy of being a unelected senator simply because of her name and the fact she is the daughter of that president who was murdered.

Caroline Whatever isn't special.  Big deal!  So some communist killed her dad.  She remains a liberal.  She should be ashamed.  Now that she is over fifty and has no idea about normal life, she thinks she should be a senator?

I don't usually use this language, but **** the Kennedys.  I cannot imagine a more classless people.  Nothing about them is noble.  Their "president" stole his position through the same Chicago Thugary the current president enjoys.

John F. was a male pig.  His brother was another pig.  Jackie was an opportunist.  His son was a loser.  And Caroline is just like her mother.  I can't imagine a more fabulous family!

The "Kennedy Clan"  is the epitome of White Thrash.  They have tried to disguise it with money, marrying outside their class, and politics.  It is sad that Ted has been their savior.  A murderer.

God Bless you, Mary Jo.  I am so sorry you died so the Kennedys could live.

ALBANY — Problems involving taxes and a household employee surfaced during the vetting of Caroline Kennedy and derailed her candidacy for the Senate, a person close to Gov. David A. Paterson said on Thursday, in an account at odds with Ms. Kennedy’s own description of her reasons for withdrawing.

The account emerged 14 hours after Ms. Kennedy announced that she was taking her name out of contention for the Senate seat vacated by Hillary Rodham Clinton, and as Mr. Paterson appeared to be leaning toward selecting Representative Kirsten E. Gillibrand, an upstate lawmaker in her second term in Congress.

Hard feelings toward Ms. Kennedy were clearly building among the governor’s staff on Thursday, after a dramatic evening in which she was reported to be dropping out, then wavering, then ultimately, shortly after midnight on Thursday, issuing a statement ending her candidacy.

The person close to the governor said Mr. Paterson “never had any intention of picking Kennedy” because he had come to consider her unready for the job.

But other Democratic operatives and people who talked to the governor said that he had all but decided to select her as senator, and that his staff was arranging a press conference for late this week.

The absolute mind-numbing question is:

"On what basis is she QUALIFIED to be a U.S. Senator?"

The fact that Paterson actually entertained the idea of appointing her, up to and including allocating resources to vet her, is stunning in its ridiculousness.

Unbelievable.

No...and I lived there.

New York is dumber than Florida.  Imagine that.

Caroline Kennedy’s rumored affair was with New York Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger. Arthur Ochs Sulzberger, Jr. (born Sept 22 1951) is the son of Arthur Ochs Sulzberger aka Punch Sulzberger. The son is sometimes called Arthur Pinch Sulzberger as a variation of his father’s nickname

Kennedy is reportedly known to be friends with Sulzberger, and rumors of an affair between the two started earlier this month.

Earlier this week, Kennedy notified Governor David Paterson that she no longer wanted to be considered for the vacant Senate seat in New York. Caroline cited "personal problems" and reports surfaced yesterday that the problems involved taxes and a housekeeper.

“Obama recently named Caroline Kennedy to his vice presidential search committee - and she’s been telling friends that if he’s elected to the White House, she wants to move to Washington, D.C., and take a role in his Democratic administration,But the reality is that this plan is dulling the pain of her personal problems. Insiders believe that her marriage to Ed Schlossberg is pretty much over.” a friend revealed.

Times City Room Will Not Mention Caroline Kennedy’s Special Friendship With Pinch Sulzberger.Don’t even bother to leave a comment at the Times local news blog suggesting a sexy patrician affair between the Senator-to-be and the publisher of the Times.

It seems like a mostly legitimate question to ask, doesn’t it? Whether or not they’re having sexy sexy old rich scion s*x, the special friendship between Sulzberger and Kennedy is well-documented. And when the publisher of your paper is BFF with a public figure, asking whether that friendship affects coverage of that public figure is certainly fair game.

Lets see, she has a tax problem and a nanny problem.  Combine the two and you get she hasn't been paying taxes on what she pays her nanny.

There is some scuttlebutt that the "personal" matter was that she [as a married women] has been having an affair with the editor of the new york times -- pay to play, perhaps - I will do this for you if you do this for me :rotf:

Oh, com'on.  Who would have an affair with the withering Caroline? Like all Kennedy women, the older she gets, the more like a man she looks.  And she's over fifty.  In another couple of years Barney Frank will be making passes at her.

They call Caroline Kennedy an "Islander" since she lives in Manhattan.

In addtion to a complete lack of experience, she seemed to lack skills as a politician. Somebody like Joe Biden could be a complete moron, but he could shake your hand with both of his, pat you on the back, smile at you, and make you feel like you were the most important person he talked to that day. Caroline Kennedy was the opposite of all that. No one is happier for her to be out of that business than she is.
