In an old “Saturday Night Live” sketch, Ronald Reagan (brilliantly played by Phil Hartman) pretends to be a doddering, out-of-touch dotard until the press leaves the room, and then suddenly transforms into an evil genius.

Is this what’s going on with Joe Biden?

In public he appears increasingly out of it.

He speaks nonsense, he shows flashes of inappropriate anger, he walks off stage in the middle of events, and he has trouble with stairs.

But what if it’s all an act?

I ask that because the latest word is that, according to James Comer, President Biden had at least one pseudonymous email account that he used so he could secretly collude with his son (and alleged bagman) Hunter.

The only reason to run such an account is to make sure that the emails don’t get archived in official systems and aren’t available under the Freedom of Information Act, and to keep the communications out of the reach of critics, and possibly law enforcement.

Given the time gap between the alias email use and LIEden's Presidency, his cunning might be in the past. OTOH, under-estimation worked poorly for the Dems in 2000 and 2016.

Progressive insurance sued by America First Legal over allegedly racist grants

Conservative legal group America First Legal is suing Progressive Insurance for alleged racial discrimination for a grant program for small businesses.

The 2023 Driving Small Business Forward grant from Progressive offered "$25,000 grant for use toward the purchase of a commercial vehicle for their business" but was only open to black small business owners, something members of the class-action complaint argue is unlawful.

“All Americans deserve to be free from racial discrimination, yet major corporations across the United States inject racial considerations into every aspect of their business operations, employment practices, and so much more," Gene Hamilton, America First Legal vice president and general counsel, said in a statement. "As alleged in our complaint, our client — who is a small business owner fighting to create a better life for himself and his family — was denied a contract with Progressive that would have provided him with $25,000 toward the purchase of a new truck solely because of the amount of pigment in his skin."

A bill making its way through the California state legislature would criminalize “substantial disorder” by attendees at school board meetings, in what critics say is an attempt to crack down on parents’ opposition to transgender and racial ideology in curricula.

SB 596, introduced by State Sen. Anthony Portantino (D-Glendale), would expand an existing law that punishes those who cause “substantial disorder” in schools to include school board meetings as well. As the state legislative counsel’s digest explains:

This bill would specify, for purposes of the above-described offense, that “substantial disorder” includes substantial disorder at any meeting of the governing board of a school district, the governing body of a charter school, a county board of education, or the State Board of Education. The bill would define a “school employee” as any employee or official of a school district, a charter school, a county office of education, a county board of education, the state board, or the State Department of Education. To the extent the bill expands the scope of an existing crime, the bill would impose a state-mandated local program.

The bill would also punish sending threatening emails to school board members, though it specifies: “Constitutionally protected activity is not included within the meaning of ‘credible threat.'” The penalty for violating the law would be up to a year in jail.

Once upon a time, before the First World War, Argentina comfortably stood as one of the ten richest countries in the world. But shortly after Juan Perón took power in 1943, the country embarked on a series of socialist reforms that would knee cap the economy and turn it into an economic backwater, out of which it has yet to return. The country used to be considered a “new Europe.” Now its buildings look older than their ancient European ancestors.

Libertarianism, or liberalism as it is called in Latin America, has never garnered as much attention as it has today. Javier Milei is a big reason why. Milei, a boisterous economist and television personality, has rebranded the classical liberal tradition in a way that speaks to the experience of Argentines and their lifelong struggle with economic stagnation.

“Liberalism is founded on the non-aggression principle,” he says in his victory speech to a group of supporters after a surprising sweep in Argentina’s presidential primaries this month. If Milei succeeds in the October general election, which is likely to lead to a runoff, he would be the first libertarian president in modern history.

Many political pundits projected a third-place finish for the eccentric economist, but his indefatigable campaign has galvanized many Argentines, propelling him to the top of the race. Despite his populist rhetoric, Milei is a staunch libertarian. Even his dogs are named after popular libertarian-leaning economists, including Murray Rothbard, Milton Friedman, and Robert Lucas.

A libertarian got elected in Argentina, Javier Milei. Argentina was an economic powerhouse before Juan Peron. Peron made Argentina socialist and helped Nazis escape after World War II.

The morning after holding a press conference vowing to get tough with organized retail theft rings that are essentially terrorizing business owners in Los Angeles (and its surrounding areas), Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass hit the NPR airwaves (where she knew nobody would be listening) to blame "the press and especially the conservative press that wants to paint...Democratic-run cities as though we are in a crisis of crime" for the "sense of fear" in the city, not the criminals themselves.

In the Friday morning interview Bass also claimed that people are safe in Los Angeles and that "crime trends show crime going down," but says the Los Angeles Police Department is incredibly short-staffed and that is leading to some of the problems they're seeing.

Flashback to Thursday, when Bass held a press conference with LA County Sheriff Robert Luna, LAPD Assistant Chief Dominic Choi, and other regional police chiefs to announce the formation of a regional task force "focused on organized retail theft," and referenced people feeling unsafe.

Talk about out of touch and tone deaf.

I'd bet my next social security check that SharterJoe is merely following Barry's example. Nom de plume in email, phone, anything to mask his criminal behavior. So much for the so-called "Records Act" that's supposed to be followed when dealing in government "bidness."
