Lawyer behind 100s of fake disability lawsuits gets 4-year sentence

(Reuters) – A Florida lawyer was sentenced to four years in federal prison for mail fraud on Thursday after prosecutors in New York said he filed hundreds of fraudulent disability lawsuits using stolen identities.

U.S. District Judge Paul Gardephe in Manhattan also ordered Stuart Finkelstein, 68, to pay a $200,000 fine and forfeit more than $640,000.

Prosecutors said Finkelstein filed nearly 300 Florida and New York federal lawsuits on behalf of two plaintiffs who purportedly visited public establishments but could not enter them because they were not in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

But the plaintiffs never retained Finkelstein as an attorney or even visited the establishments, prosecutors said.

The scheme allowed Finkelstein to reap more than $600,000 for himself and caused more than $1.5 million in losses for the businesses he sued, prosecutors said.

You may have seen some of this video circulating on Twitter/X yesterday. Today we have a bit more insight into where this happened. It was at a 7-11 store in Stockton, CA.

A would-be robber at one of the chain’s Stockton stores—it wasn’t clear which one—wearing a dirty white T-shirt, blue jeans, tan construction-worker boots and a blue scarf partially covering his head and face can be seen pushing a 20-gallon trash can on wheels behind a counter, video showed.

As the suspect grabs and tosses fistfuls of cigarette boxes and tobacco products from shelves behind the store counter, store workers can be seen backing away warily from the man, who appears to reach threateningly toward his back pocket as if he is carrying a weapon.

But pretty quickly one guy grabs the thief’s wrist and pulls him to the ground the other starts hitting him with a broom handle. After about 5-6 hits the thief is ready to call it a day. But as you can see in part 2, the guy with the broom handle just keeps swinging.

Stockton police said they were aware of the incident but that’s all they’ve said so far.

I don't know if San Joaquin County's DA is a Soros minion, but the No-Comment-grade comment from SPD doesn't sound good. OTOH, whether Soros-minion DA or not, store employees are starting to not play sheeple.

When Meta’s Twitter clone, Threads, was launched, the media gushed over it’s meteoric growth of users, pronounced Twitter dead, and kneeled before the alter (sic) of Mark Zuckerberg, who took down Elon Musk and his outmoded ideas of free speech for all.

For days, we were treated to stories about the number of app downloads, user sign-ups, and comparisons to the other social media apps. What Threads accomplished in days took many, many months for other apps. Few, if any, acknowledged that Threads was standing on the shoulders of Instagram, and that it was likely headed down a similar path as the now-defunct Google+ social media platform. I noted at the time that I wasn’t impressed by Threads’ initial numbers. “It was inevitable that Threads would get a huge number of sign-ups at launch,” I explained. “The real question will be how many active users the app sustains over the coming weeks and months.”

Well, now we know. According to a new report, app engagement is down significantly, and Threads struggles to maintain users. According to data from market research firms Similarweb and Sensor Tower, Threads’ daily active user count is down a whopping 82%, as of July 31. Daily active users peaked at 44 million the day after its launch and now sit at just eight million. For comparison, Twitter’s monetizable active-user count is nearly 200 million.

I saw the beat down at the 7-11 I got a kick out of it, I am glad to see people being fed up with the lawlessness and lack of interest from the police. SF DA Brooke Jenkins: 'The courts are the biggest barrier'

The Tenderloin neighborhood held a Public Safety Town Hall last night featuring the police chief Bill Scott, Sheriff Paul Miyamoto and DA Brooke Jenkins. Jenkins had a pretty clear message for the audience made up of people who are sick of the crime, the filth and never feeling safe when walking down the streets. Her message: The problem isn’t law enforcement, it’s the courts.

“The courts are the biggest barrier,” Jenkins said at a Tenderloin Public Safety Town Hall, in her strongest criticism of the courts during her one-year tenure. She made the comments during a panel discussion that included both police chief Bill Scott and Sheriff Paul Miyamoto. She noted that arrests for drug dealings are way up and her office has been vigilant in requesting that repeat offenders be detained while awaiting trial. But only 16 of 100 requests for detention have been granted, she said.

“We do everything we can and you can see the same person out on the street the same day,” she said. “Repeat and chronic offenders are selling the most deadly substance we’ve seen in this city. That tells you something about what has been going on in the courtrooms of this city. The judges are not taking this seriously. The judges are ignoring it. ”...

In SF, the Mayor, DA, Sheriff and judges are all elected positions. SF redidents need to pay attention to what they elect to ALL these offices.

Former President Donald Trump has subpoenaed Fox News in an effort to attain an unaired interview with former U.S. Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund. The interview was originally intended to air as part of then-Fox News host Tucker Carlson’s investigation into Jan 6 and the more than 40,000 hours of footage he was granted access to. The National Pulse yesterday released parts of the interview, with further clips due on Thursday afternoon.

One item of particular interest to Donald Trump’s legal team is comments that Sund may have made to Carlson regarding the presence of federal agents in the crowd on Jan 6. In an interview with English comedian Russell Brand, Carlson stated that Sund believed federal agents were among the crowds protesting the 2020 Presidential election result:

“I never thought there was a false flag or anything like that. I’m not a conspiracist by temperament… And then I interviewed the chief of the Capitol Police, Steven Sund – in an interview that was never aired on Fox by the way. I was fired before it could air… He was the chief of the Capitol Police on January 6 and he said ‘Oh yeah the crowd was filled with Federal agents.’ He would know of course because he was in charge of security at the site. So the more time that has passed, now it has been two-and-a-half years, it becomes really obvious that core claims they made about January 6 were lies.”

Where are you, AOC? The Daily Mail and The Intercept released pictures of migrants in outside cages in Arizona. The temperature has spiked over 110 degrees.

The border patrol and other officials are still overwhelmed. I wrote the other day that border crossings boomed in July because those at the border have no other choice.

Guess what. These poor people are in cages because the border patrol has no other choice:

And the increase marks a reversal of the normal pattern, when arrivals tail off amid the extreme heat of the summer.

The town of Ajo is on Arizona Highway 85, which is a continuation of Mexico's federal highway 2. This highway - and possibly some/all of these illegals - crosses through Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. Some 15 years ago OPCNM had to be closed for a year or two to clean out all the garbage illegals had dumped throughout the Monument.

OPCNM is a large part or most of the natural habitat for this cactus. That Enviros were silent about illegals trashing it back in the 2000s tells you they really don't care about endangered species and their environment.

And, yeah. The Dems' and MSM's Kidz in Kages narrative is only deployed when an R is in the WH. The 2014 pictures were a local thingy until Trump became President in 2017. Then the 2014 pictures magically and dishonestly were made into Trump's scandal.
