DeSantis launches GOP presidential campaign in Twitter announcement plagued by glitches

It begins...

I'm not making any calls, it's way too early, but I'll admit that what I've seen of Trump's commentary about Desantis, even before this official announcement, it's going to be a long, ugly, divisive election season, which will not help anything.  Hopefully conservative and republican voters can get the candidates in line so we can keep whoever the Dems run out of the White House.

The trash and burn politics is not what we need right now.. we need to hear about policy and what they believe in.

It will get ugly if it hasn't already. Being at ground zero in one of the earliest voting states, I'm already inundated with text messages, phone calls, and a mailbox full of clap-trap from the various candidates who have already declared.

There are things that I like about most of those who've announced officially and certainly things I don't appreciate. Along with the absolutely irrelevant candidates. But I'm keeping my powder dry, considering the voting won't take place until February.

Could not agree more.  But will the candidates (whoever else that may be) get that message and apply it?  I like a lot of things about Trump, but I don't see him taking the high ground and focusing on policy like that.  Not sure how Desantis is going to play out, that's one of the reasons I'm holding off for a while, and may hold off right up until primary day.

Yep, this is definitely time for the

I could be way off here, but I'd posit that DeSantis' poll numbers are going to increase significantly and the more they do, and the lower Trump's numbers go, the more shrill and childish that Trump will become. He's deathly afraid of DeSantis and I think if DeSantis just keeps on task without trying to one-up Trump, he'll be the nominee.

I really hope it doesn't get ugly. If it turns into "my candidate or bust", we could easily end up with democrats retaining power, or worse, gaining more power.

For those of us who've been hanging around here and CU over the past several decades, we've seen both political parties get into not so civil wars.  In 2008, there were a lot of lefties and DUmmies so pissed that Barack Hussain 0. got the nomination that there was a clan of clams who became "PUMA'S", meaning Party Unity My Ass.  The bitter chicks with unshaved arms and legs who demanded that Cankles get the Democrat nomination.  And of course there was also the Paul-Bot phenomenon on our side of the aisle, which led to quite the schism amongst conservative forums.

As mentioned earlier in this thread, personally have no dog in this fight yet. But when the time comes around to make that decision I'll gladly share it with you kind folks. Most importantly, we don't need to see a circular firing squad if one's preferred candidate doesn't prevail. Getting that decrepit old feckless fossil and his merry band of communists and socialists out of power is the most important thing. Even is our nominee is Asa Hutchinson or Chris Christie. (Just joshing you, neither stands a chance) But my sentiment is the most important thing.

Agreed in principle -- HOWEVER....the time for argument, even heated argument, and soul-searching, and just plain getting pissed off, is during the primaries. As conservatives, we are expected to debate, and debate loudly and firmly with gloves off if necessary. All of that is good.

But after the candydate is nominated, the gloves go back on and we get behind that candydate that can put this ship back on course.

SharterJoe, above all, and his henchmen, must go.

Yep, the time for bitter disagreements has begun and should happen. President Trump's silly nickname for DeSantis "Ron DeSanctimonious" is too complicated for the average voter. They floated one that floats off the tongue which has been discarded: Meatball Ron. That would be more effective IMHO. And I certainly like aspects of both of them.

I like Trump and Desantis the problem i have with Trump is he is starting out as a lame duck and if the republicans lose the congress it will just be more impeachment and obstruction of what ever he tries to do.

Very true -- and if Trump is elected, he'll be only half effective (if that much) since the lame media and the Dems and the Never Trumpers and the GOP elite class will go after him three times more viciously than the first time. But even that isn't cause enough not to vote for him necessarily. He is a street brawler and he relishes these fights.

DeSantis' success in FL had a great deal to do with a cooperative legislature. Whatever DeSantis wanted, he pretty much got. If Ron should be elected and the Senate remains pretty much deadlocked with waaaaaaaay too many Dems and so-called independents (who caucus with the Dems) and they are going to block DeSantis at every turn.

It's gonna be a tough call, but we're very, very early in this process. But something tells me that the never-ending lawsuits that Trump finds himself with are going to wear him down -- like this latest garbage about some of his staff moving boxes containing classified docs before the Mar-A-Lago raid, which potentially means another indictment.
