Liberal City Exempts Celebrity Chef’s Restaurant From Gas Stove Ban

Palo Alto, California, administrators have exempted a celebrity chef’s restaurant from the city’s sweeping gas stove ban.

Jose Andres’ newly planned restaurant, Zaytinya, is one of the latest Simon Property Group buildings that received project approval in 2019, including for a a gas line, which the restaurant relies on, according to Palo Alto Online. The plan, however, changed when planning staff informed the company that due to the City Council’s revision of the building code, the restaurant was required to use electric stoves.

Simon wrote a letter in April threatening the City Council with a lawsuit if it maintained the ban, according to the letter.

This “is a unique situation, where parts of the project were built or under construction when the City’s all-electric new construction rule went into effect,” according to a statement from the City Council. “Except for this one-off situation, Palo Alto’s all-electric requirement is being implemented for all new projects and substantial remodels.”

“SPG is confident that the enforcement of the new Reach Code in this context is legally defective and unconstitutional, and SPG is thus prepared to take all actions necessary to enforce its legal rights to employ gas facilities within Building EE,” wrote Anna Shimko, an attorney for SPG Group LLC. She added that Zaytinya relies on traditional cooking methods that only natural gas appliances would grant “to achieve its signature, complex flavors.”

The Department of Energy announced a new rule in early February that would create an “energy conservation standard” for gas stoves and electric equipment. Prior to the February rule, Richard Trumka Jr., a top Consumer Product Safety Commission official, told Bloomberg that banning the manufacture and importation of gas stoves is “on the table” if they “can’t be safe,” citing a study claiming to link the cooking appliances with childhood asthma cases.

“Zaytinya cannot compromise the caliber of its cuisine and reputation, and if SPG cannot provide gas in Building EE, Zaytinya will likely choose not to locate within the City. This would be an unfortunate loss for the residents of Palo Alto, as well as a compensable loss for which SPG would be forced to seek redress,” Shimko said.

This one probably deserves a thread all its own - but in the spirit of who-cares-where-it-goes ( :-) ) here you go.

I confess, I missed this point. John Brennan is a criminal -- of that, I have no doubt. But he actually had the 'nads to take this to Barry and to SharterJoe in 2016. Brennan, in a weird twist, actually reported that Hillary was initiating a plan to discredit Trump with false information. Now, whether Brennan did that solely to CYA or to say, "Hey, guys, we have a great strategy here and let's, uh, do little or nothing to **** it up. OK?"

I personally lean toward option #2 because Brennan is and always will be, vermin.

The Biggest Bombshell From the Durham Report That's Being Ignored

The Durham report made one thing unequivocally clear: there was no evidence of Russian collusion. Despite this, the FBI proceeded with an unjustified investigation, which was carried out by anti-Trump partisans who cared more about the narrative than the facts.

But, this wasn’t the biggest story contained in the report’s pages; frankly, we already knew there was never any evidence. Obama officials previously testified to this point, and the Mueller report should have ended the debate on this issue.

Let me tell you about the bigger bombshell turned up by the investigation that should have gotten much more attention.

Within the report released last week by Special Counsel John Durham is the huge revelation that in 2016, CIA Director John Brennan personally briefed President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. He told them that the CIA possessed evidence suggesting that Hillary Clinton was strategizing to falsely accuse then-presidential candidate Donald Trump of colluding with Russia.

Related: For the Media, Trump Hatred Justifies FBI Corruption

According to the report, “highly significant intelligence” came from a “trusted foreign source pointing to a Clinton campaign plan to vilify Trump by tying him to Vladimir Putin so as to divert attention from her own concerns relating to her use of a private email server.”

On August 3, 2016, just days after receiving the tip, John Brennan provided a briefing to key senior officials in the Obama administration, including Obama, Biden, Attorney General Loretta Lynch, and FBI Director James Comey in the White House Situation Room.

As Durham’s report details, Brennan’s handwritten notes revealed that he informed them about an “alleged approval by Hillary Clinton on July 26, 2016 of a proposal from one of her foreign policy advisors to vilify Donald Trump by stirring up a scandal claiming interference by Russian security services.”

The CIA even formally referred the matter to Comey and Peter Strzok, who was the Deputy Assistant Director of the FBI’s Counterintelligence Division at the time. Of course, no investigation was conducted by the FBI in response to the intelligence on Clinton’s plan.

“Unlike the FBI’s opening of a full investigation of unknown members of the Trump campaign based on raw, uncorroborated information, in this separate matter involving a purported Clinton campaign plan, the FBI never opened any type of inquiry, issued any taskings, employed any analytical personnel, or produced any analytical products in connection with the information,” the report said.

This disturbing revelation makes it clear that Obama and Biden were well aware the collusion narrative was a hoax originating within the Clinton campaign. Yet, they sat idly by as the investigation into Trump, which included spying on his campaign, continued. They even perpetuated the hoax, making them de facto accessories in the plot to undermine Trump.

The American public deserves answers and must demand accountability for those who blatantly abused their power to further their political interests — including a former and a current sitting president of the United States.

This is more than most average Americans take home while working full-time -- especially if it's accurate. I have no reason to believe it isn't accurate.

SharterJoe and Jill -- Grifters par excellence. But we knew that, of course.

Quote
Last year, the Biden's claimed $54,665 in Social Security income on a joint basis, which works out to about $4,555 each month. Even taking into account that this $4,555 figure is the combination of Joe's and Jill's monthly payout, this is well above what the average retired worker brings home each month from Social Security.

Furthermore, with the U.S. inflation rate hitting a more than four-decade high of 9.1% in June, the 2023 cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for Social Security should be sizable — i.e., the largest in decades. Following a 5.9% COLA that was passed along to beneficiaries in 2022, it wouldn't be a surprise to see the Biden's taking home well in excess of $60,000 a year, jointly, from Social Security come their 2023 federal tax filing.

The school mass shooting that didn't happen

https://hotair.com/jazz-shaw/2023/05/22/the-school-mass-shooting-that-didnt-happen-n552446

Quote
There were some tense moments at Bostrom High School in Phoenix, Arizona on Friday. A 15-year-old student brought an AR-15 and several boxes of ammunition into the school building. Normally, when we hear a story start like that, we brace ourselves for something simply awful to follow. But on Friday in Phoenix, the expected awful developments failed to unfold. The firearm was detected and reported.  Police took the boy into custody without incident and confiscated the firearm. There were no injuries. So while it’s important to learn as much as we can from mass shootings in the hope of preventing future incidents, we should also take some lessons away from a case where school administrators and law enforcement got it right.

… First and most importantly, someone saw the firearm and they immediately said something. (Authorities haven’t revealed who initially reported it yet.) When training both students and staff, the message must be reinforced that a culture of “snitches get stitches” can’t be tolerated. They could pay for their silence with their own lives.

Next, the response by the school was nearly instantaneous and appropriate. They notified the police immediately and slammed the school into lockdown. Law enforcement arrive on the scene in minutes and secured the firearm and ammunition. They arrested the boy and removed him from the property.

Lockdown drills are an unfortunate necessity in the modern era, but they are critical. Securing doors and windows (or installing them if the school doesn’t have any) makes it harder for the potential shooter to reach their weapon or move about from area to area if they already have it.

An onsite SRO might’ve been even quicker, but maybe the lock-down hindered the would-be shooter enough that offsite police could be quick enough.

More upstate NY counties declare a migrant state of emergency

https://hotair.com/jazz-shaw/2023/05/22/more-upstate-ny-counties-declare-a-migrant-state-of-emergency-n552454

Quote
We recently learned that New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ plan to ship busloads of illegal migrants to rural upstate counties resulted in the leaders of Orange and Rockland Counties declaring states of emergency to stop the plan. On Thursday, three more counties (Dutchess, Sullivan, and Greene) followed suit. County executives once again blamed the emergency on failed federal immigration policies and New York City’s mismanagement of the migrant situation. They declared that their smaller counties do not have sufficient empty rooms to suddenly begin housing that many people, nor are there adequate resources to feed them and provide other types of care. In short, New York City declared itself a sanctuary city so this is their problem, not that of the suburbs and rural areas.

Adams trying to share the pa … errrr, wealth.

Took a couple of days for articles to start popping up, but he was an assistant principal at my school, and one of the people who worked very hard to get me hired in here as a new teacher with an alternative certification.  While listed as an activist, he wasn't a crazy BLM one, he worked for people to get opportunity, then they had to put in the work.

Or maybe it wasn't an issue at all. Maybe the kid was just being a kid and playing "show 'n tell." Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. The ditherers and hand-wringers all scream, "But we can't take CHANCES! It's an ASSAULT WEAPON and it's horrible and ugly and I'M SCARED!"

Not sure if this was reported in another "Stories and Opinions Worth Knowing...." but here's a followup.

Blinken - the turd that just doesn't drop - has instituted yet another woke enterprise within the Fake State Department:

Quote
State Department Beclowns Itself, Offers Therapy for Employees 'Misgendered' in Email Glitch

In a stunning display of hypersensitivity, the State Department graced its employees with an email on Friday that generously offered free therapy to anyone who was apparently “hurt or upset” by a minor system glitch.

Brace yourselves for the therapy-necessitating horror: a random pronoun generator had the audacity to assign incorrect pronouns to staff members. Men were mistakenly labeled as “she,” while women were wrongly dubbed “he.” Oh, the humanity! Send in a truckload of tissues and assign everyone an emotional support animal.

I’m glad the people we have running our State Department are so emotionally fragile. It really gives me a ton of confidence in the department to handle our nation’s foreign relations.

One distraught employee even had the audacity to claim that the incident was a “distraction” and that “a lot of people here have been triggered today.” Well, clearly this is a national crisis that demands immediate attention!

But fear not, dear employees, for the State Department’s chief information officer, Kelly E. Fletcher, swiftly came to the rescue with a statement that would surely calm the nerves of even the most delicate souls. Fletcher explained, with utmost seriousness, that the purpose of this pronoun-generating feature was to make their systems more “inclusive” and to provide employees with “options,” not to actually make decisions for them. How thoughtful!

Oh, what a time to be alive, when the State Department can offer therapy for such traumatizing encounters with pronouns. I can only imagine what happens when an offensive meme makes the rounds in an email chain.

Fletcher tried to explain the traumatizing incident by explaining that the department is in the process of “testing a new feature that will provide users with the option to include their preferred pronouns in their Global Address List profile. The feature inadvertently went live, and a large number of employees had randomly assigned pronouns added to their profiles.”

According to Fletcher, “the intent behind this feature is to make our systems more inclusive and provide employees with options. Not to make decisions for them.” Fletcher also expressed her regret, stating, “I recognize that this error had the opposite effect, and again, I am very sorry.”

Cry me a river that identifies as a lake.

Kinda wondering if the DA was bought and paid for by George Soros...

Nope, not according to this list -- BUT, why is Christina Mitchell taking so long with an investigation that demanded answers 6 months ago? Politics?

Stonewalled on New Investigative Efforts About School Shooting

It’s been a year since the horrific shooting at Uvalde, Texas. Salvador Rolando Ramos grabbed an AR-15 rifle and decided to kill nineteen students at Robb Elementary School and two teachers. The police response numbered 400 officers, including local and federal law enforcement. The timeline of the response to this active shooter event was a fiasco, revised nearly a dozen times, pointing to a disturbing aspect of this shooting: the officers refused to respond appropriately. They waited in the hall near the room where Ramos barricaded himself. The death toll would not have been as high if officers responded to the event as they should.

There were stories that they were waiting for the keys. It later was revealed that the door wasn’t even locked. Security cam footage showed officers waiting in the hall for over an hour while Ramos continued to murder students inside the classroom. There were tragic stories of multiple 911 calls coming from the students inside. The fallout led to the resignation of the Uvalde School District police chief. Still, families of the victims feel that they’ve been stonewalled on new information regarding the investigative efforts into this shooting (via NBC News):

Quote
Parents have been fighting for a full accounting, but a promised city investigation hasn’t happened and a lot of information is bottled up in the district attorney's own investigation.

As some facts have come out, they've often contradicted “official” versions of what happened. Jesse Rizo, Jacklyn's uncle, said he feels the trickling out of facts are the spirits of the slain children answering the questions of their parents and loved ones.

Rizo, who has joined Cazares in his activism for accountability and reform, said the year after the massacre has been a series of letdowns.

“All of these things are coming down the pipeline and you are like, damn, that’s a letdown, that’s a letdown, that’s a letdown. And so you begin to wonder if you have it wrong,” he said. “What am I doing? Why am I not good enough to convince these people that their actions are wrong. For a little bit, you start believing that.”

But Rizo said they somehow re-energize to keep up their fight, because they are trying to save somebody else’s life, prevent someone else’s grief. "That’s the reason to hope," he said. "Hope and faith is the only thing we have left."

There have been bits and pieces of new information, including a grisly discovery at the crime scene where Ramos had written “LOL” on the wall in the victims’ blood. It shocked the nation, but Ramos was another shooter with a long history of mentally disturbing behavior, including social media posts reportedly showing him murdering cats. He was known to law enforcement as well. The article also included efforts regarding new gun control legislation, but the bill to increase the age limit to buy long guns stalled and is unlikely to reemerge soon. The shooting also highlights again how this is a mental health issue, which liberals dismiss wholly, claiming that the mentally ill are the ones who are more likely to be the victims of violence. That may be, but it also cannot be denied that some of the worst mass shootings were committed by people who were insane.

More on the Phoenix high school rifle case

https://hotair.com/jazz-shaw/2023/05/28/more-on-the-phoenix-high-school-rifle-case-n553968

Quote
...  Now, the local NBC news outlet has obtained court records providing more details about the boy and how this near tragedy almost took place. His identity is still being concealed because of his age, but the available details may help other school systems flag potentially dangerous teens who may attempt similar acts of mayhem. They have also revealed some technical details regarding the weapon that he brought to the school.
...
Questions were initially raised as to whether the firearm may have belonged to the boy’s parents. But the parents are reportedly out of the picture. The boy is living with “caretakers” who told the police that they have been unable to “control, supervise or parent the juvenile in a home environment” despite their “best efforts” to do so. This clearly seems to be a case of a troubled youth with behavioral issues.

In the aftermath of the initial event, I asked how the teenager could have gotten a rifle into the school without anyone immediately noticing. Part of that mystery has been solved. The AR-15 has a detachable barrel and the boy had disassembled it, stuffing the barrel and upper section of the firearm into his sweatpants. The rest of the weapon, along with the ammunition, was in his backpack. That fact probably saved some lives by rendering him unable to immediately draw and fire the rifle when officers approached him.

Parentless teen ... possible straw purchase or of-age accomplice ... not the brightest bulb in the knife drawer ... why do I suspect this mass-shooter-wannabe was long known to be trouble, and possibly even violent?
