Indiana Governor Signs Bill Allowing Citizens To Use Deadly Force Against Police Officers Into Law

Quote
Republican Governor Mitch Daniels has signed Senate Enrolled Act 1 into law in Indiana. The new law allows citizens to use deadly force against police officers they think are illegally entering their homes. Earlier this month, Addicting Info reported  that the bill had passed the Senate. Republicans say the bill is designed to keep police safe, but Democrats say the bill will lead to the wanton killing of police officers.

Yep, that's our goal. The wanton killing of police officers.  :confused:

Actually, I read the actual text of that new law and it's not all that bad.  IMO anyway.

It merely removes some of the blanket protection that LEOs had concerning illegal entry.  Protecting the rights of citizens while also allowing the cops to do their job has got to be one bitch of balancing act.

Hopefully the various police departments will instruct their people how to handle this new law and err on the side of caution prior to forcing their way into somebody's home.

I think the ultimate result will be that LEO's, whether it's right or wrong, will take fire and return massive volumes of fire with citizens who are, in their view, just defending themselves. It would require massive judicial oversight to ensure that these types of situations don't happen.

You may be right doc.  I suspect that some of the various criminal elements might try to use this law as a defense for shooting a cop entering the home on legitimate and legal grounds.

Time will tell I suppose.

Just don't try to arrest people in their own homes. Wait till they come out.

^This.

Also:

Knock or ring the doorbell;

Ask permission to enter;

If you have a warrant, show it and permit the citizen to read it;

If the dog is on a chain, don't shoot it;

If the dog isn't on a chain or otherwise secured, offer the citizen the opportunity to secure it before you think of shooting it;

Once inside, don't deliberately wreck the place while conducting the search;

If you think the coke's in the couch cushions, let your K-9 partner take a whiff before cutting them open;

If you don't find what you're looking for, help the citizen put back anyting you moved, apologize, and leave;

And last but not least,

Diouble-check to make sure you got the right house before knocking.

In this way, shootings of and by police will be greatly reduced.

A community may possess all the necessary moral qualifications, in so high a degree, as to be capable of self-government under the most adverse circumstances; while, on the other hand, another may be so sunk in ignorance and vice, as to be incapable of forming a conception of liberty, or of living, even when most favored by circumstances, under any other than an absolute and despotic government.

The use of force will be met with resistance, it's just human nature.

Somebody might oughta 'splain to them what the bright yellow or white POLICE or FBI or ATF or SWAT printed on their chests means. That's of course if they are deaf and didn't hear the screaming.
It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.

But in the case of the true criminal element....  I doubt they care about the uniform.

True but plays hell with their unknown assailant self defense plea.

Indeed, but this new law isn't limited to unknown assailant.  At least that's not the way I read it.
