Place? San Francisco.. Cause for rally? New Orleans relief Bill

http://cbs5.com/localwire/22.0.html?type=bcn&item=KATRI...

Things like this point to how republicans and democrats differ..

5 years after the disaster , people in CALIFORNIA are rallying to get THEIR congresswoman to push for relief for Louisiana & the gulf coast..("RED" states, loaded with people who openly revile us, and who would not piss on us if we were on fire)

........................................................
SF: RALLY TO ENCOURAGE PELOSI TO SUPPORT HURRICANE KATRINA BILL

SAN FRANCISCO (BCN)

A rally will be held in front of Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office on Friday to encourage her to support the federal Gulf Coast Civil Works Act, which will create 100,000 jobs and help rebuild the Gulf Coast if passed.

The event is being organized by multiple Bay Area organizations, including the NAACP Silicon Valley/ San Jose and South Bay AFL-CIO Labor Council, and will roughly coincide with the fourth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina this weekend.

The program will include reflections from hurricane survivors; a reading of the names of the 1,836 people who died in Katrina and the planting a white flag for each victim; the delivery a letter to Pelosi encouraging her to sign on as a co-sponsor of the bill; and the delivery of more than 10,000 signed petitions in support of the bill.

The Gulf Coast act would create 100,000 jobs and training opportunities for workers to rebuild the area and restore the coastal environment with green building techniques, according to event organizers.

The rally will be held at noon in front of the Phillip Burton Federal Building at 450 Golden Gate Avenue, on the plaza in front of the flagpoles

How is it that every other city in America that goes through some natural disaster gets right back to work rebuilding?  How do these places get to it and  return to normal in such short periods of time?

Yet the good people of New Orleans still have folks living in FEMA trailers and are still yammering for even more Government handouts 5 years after the fact.

Amazing...

Quite frankly, I never hear anyting about the residents of NO complaining about how things are there now.  That hurricane did more to clean up the nasty parts of that city than one could have hoped for otherwise.  Downtown is essentially back, the French Quarters is in business, but there's parts of the city that don't need to be rebuilt because the place is sinking and has been for a while.  The AFL-CIO wants the union jobs and the NAACP wants minorities to repopulate the city, so obviously each side wants their bread buttered with cash.  I'm betting the people in the suburbs of NO would just as soon the city take its time and not invite the riff-raff back in.  lacarnut could provide some insight if he sees this thread.

Well, a good portion of the trashy populace has apparently made it back home. The urban youth of New Orleans continue to perform
public service at the most prodigious rate in the country. Most of the ones not back in the bayou are now guests of the Texas
Departent of Criminal Justice.

There's a reason why patriotism is considered a conservative value. Watch a Tea Party rally and you'll see people proudly raising the American flag and showing pride in U.S. heroes such as Thomas Jefferson. Watch an OWS rally and you'll see people burning the American flag while showing pride in communist heroes such as Che Guevera. --Bob, from some news site

But what about Galveston which actually did get hit with a hurricane .... less than a year ago?  How come no support/bill for Galveston?  New Orleans didn't even get hit by Katrina and they get financial support??  I can't figure that one out.
