My hobby is photography.
Way back in the day I was a film photographer, I developed my own film and printed my own photographs.
I lost interest for a long long time but with digital photography and Photoshop I'm back into photography and loving it to the point where I'm an administrator on a Photoshop forum.
I also love to read and travel and since I'm retired I have plenty of time for both.

I have always been envious of folks that are good with photography... Back in "the day" I took like a brazillion photos in my grandmother's garden of flowers, bugs on flowers and other such, imagining how stellar it would come out, and wasted a ton of money on film developing. I can't even begin to understand the digital photoworks of today. I suppose I should take a class.
We have a few folks here that are great photographers. Me? I just like to look at cool pictures. Why don't you post some?

I'm getting into candid or street photography and then using a Dragan processing style.

Digital is so much better in my opinion.
You can put 1 image or a thousand of images on a sd card and it cost the same.
I use Photoshop but there are plenty of free powerful photo editing programs available.
There are also a lot of free tutorials on line, give it a shot, it's fun.

For some reason, I hate doing people. Just hate it. Avoid at all costs.
Now, what are you shooting with?

It can be awkward for sure.
I also like architecture (windows, doors), landscapes, birds, lots more.
I have a Canon 60D with the stock 18-135.
Also 70-300, 10-22, and a 50 f1.4
How about you?
-
I like the pics you posted....I like that kind of image you produce with peeps and I like it with autos as well...like a old school photo but not. :-)

40D, 70D, 5DMkII. EFS 18-135 STM and EFS 17-85 for the croppers, and for all, EF 24-105L; EF 100L macro; EF 70-200 f/2.8L and the EF 100-400L.
How do like that 10-22? I've been considering an ultra-wide, but, I would want a full framer.
-
Oooo, you have some big boy stuff there, very nice.
The 70D wasn't around when I bought my camera 2 years ago.
My choice was the 7D or 60D, I wen't with the newer technology.
I love the cameras great low light capability and at 18mp I can crop closer with no or very little loss.
I really like the 10-22, chromatic aberration isn't too much of an issue it's easily eliminated in lens correction with ACR in Photoshop.
It is a crop sensor only lens you can't use it on the 5DMkII, I don't know what the full frame equivalent would be.

The 10-22 is equivalent to a 16-35 on a full framer. As you can tell, I opted for mostly EF mounts, because they work on both style of sensors.
Last weekend I shot just the 70 at the NASCAR race in Charlotte.
This coming weekend is an airshow. The 70 gets the 100-400, and 5 gets the 24-105.
Just to let you see how crazy the 70 is, I took this a couple weeks ago from the front yard.
70D+100-400+1.4x extender. Hand held. Yes, it's exactly what you think it is. :-)

Well the 10/22 is designed for a crop sensor camera, so there's no focal length adjustment on it, it's a true 10/22 on my camera.
My 50 and 70/300 are red dot lenses and you use the 1.6 multiplier on those lenses.

Perhaps I, or someone else could start a new thread along the same lines.
Just to keep this one going for a little longer.

WOW Skul that is a cool pic of the plane. I am not a photographer but I can appreciate a good photo.

Airshow down this way last weekend.
I rode in that beast last April. That was cool.
-
That would be cool. I have only had a ride in one military machine with the exception of jeeps. When I was young and in the scouts the Army and Marines came to our scout show in several Sikorsky helicopters, and gave all the patrol leaders and SR patrol leaders a ride. That was awesome! I wish I could do that again sometime. It looked like this one. It was full of seats. The military personnel that was making sure all the rug rats were buckled up told us they could move jeeps and other transport vehicles in it if they took out the seats....that was still one of my favorite memories as a young teenager.
edit by the by I pulled that photo off the net...hehe I'm no photographer.

That's a 53, alright. Saw some of the earlier models across the pond. At that time, the crazy Jarheads were still mostly running 34's and 46's.
You don't need to be a photographer to throw an interesting one.
They're memories.
-
Now I am not sure of the model...I just know it looked like that one and was told it was a Sikorsky. It was a great time even though it lasted only a few minutes. I went and got a plastic put together model of the helicopter after the event and I had it for years but I don't know where it is now.

You got it right. It's a 53. Hell of a bird. Never got to fly one.
-
HOLY SHNIKES.....I would love to learn to fly a copter let alone THAT ONE! hehe After that event my cousin and I used to argue what was better at combat a copter or plane (I know now after a lot of years) they both have their place ....He eventually got his private pilot licence (plane) and well I didn't. On to more fun things. I agree with you on the photography thread we need one for posting personal greats or just greats. Maybe you should start one sense you are the guy with the camera and Ill just tag along :-)

Everybody loves scareplanes.
-
WOW Did you take those at that airshow you were just at? Those are great photos.
-
WOW Did you take those at that airshow you were just at? Those are great photos.
Ya, that was the place.
If you have a favorite bird, I'll see if I have any shots from this year or other shows.
A few more from that day.
These are cut down in size quite a bit. The full res. are better.
-
Those look great. I guess I missed a good show. Well as afar as planes go I'm pretty easy I like bi-planes and tri-planes, flying tiger I think it was a P40, But usually the older the better and a radial engine a plus. The GeeBee racer was a funky plane I have liked sense I was a kid as well. I need to see if I have any plane pics anywhere to post up. I know I have some from the Smithsonian but I will have to see if there is any that came out worth posting.
-
Throw some up if you find any..
I have a few of the old times, just not on this machine.
These next ones were from last year.
-
All I can say is WOW! I had Blue Angel models when I was a youth after seeing them on TV. That is a great picture. Nothing I have will match those in flight photos. Now I didn't take this one ( lol my dad wasn't born) but I like saving pics like this planes trains or autos...
-
I've always been a bit partial to the old Grumman F2F and F3F.
I think there might have been a little help from the Granville brothers, in their design.
Not my photos below.
-
Something different.
Got these at the Joe Gibbs Racing facility, last year.
-
The one I rode in last April.
-
WOW you lucky @#$%&*! I WANNA TAKE A RIDE IN SOME OF THEM......hehe you have the connections man! How was it?
-

There were a few surprises. It was a bit quieter than I anticipated. I also expected it to be bit drafty around the waist guns. It wasn't bad.
Effort to moving the waist fifties wasn't has hard as I thought it would.
Construction is more in line with smaller general Av. aircraft, and not what most would expect.
-
I need one of the "surplus" extras in the last photo....hehe nice gun.
-
Couple more from air show.

One with out.
In order, a Goodyear FG-1D, Grumman F-8F-2, Chance-Vought F-4U-5NL, and the B-747 Shuttle Transporter.
Looking just off the tail of the FG-1 photo, you can see the transporter as it now sits, no longer needed.

What are you using for a lens and camera body?
Canon 70D with EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L for those.
I found the 70D works a bit better for those that the 5D Mkll body.
Switched to the 70-200 f/2.8L for later shots. Needed the aperture.
-
I have a Konica-Minolta 7D. I have a 70-200 lens and a separate 50mm, but I don't recall the speed/aperture. I wonder how similar they are.

The 50 is probably an f/1.4. I didn't think they had a 70-200 unless it's another brand.
There are different quality ranges for most lenses, so unless yours is up the ladder, it won't compare.
The 7D was the last camera that Minolta put out. Kind of a shame, they had very good film cameras.

Picked up a new addition a few days ago. Kind of a specialized beast.
It's taking a bit of time getting used to. 107degree field of view at 16mm on a full frame camera.
Works out to be a 24mm equivalent on a crop frame. I already have an 18-135 for the crop, so this thing goes on the full.
Waiting for a good clear night to make a few long exposures and see what I get.
I think I'll put it on a tracking mount and run some 5 or 10 minute shots.
Should mention, the-digital-picture site is a good one to visit if lens shopping.

I'll bet it was the A-4F model. Those were flown until 1986.
More pix.
We hit a wildlife preserve after the show.
There's an alligator in this shot.

Can you do a full-sized crop of the moon?
Sorry for not promptly replying. I think you know the reason.
Anyway, I hope to start posting pix from before the fall, and work on getting my hands functional again.

Well, I must be optimistic if anything. A couple months ago, I ordered a Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6 DC HSM UWA lens for my 70D. Cripes, I can't even hold a camera yet. :rotf:
I loaned it to a friend to try out on his 60D. He liked it so much, he ordered his own.
-
I found a simple App from Adobe, that I can use to tweak photos. It's not as good as the full blown programs, but, I can use it on the iPad.
Physical dimensions suck. Oh well, I'm back to pictures again. :yahoo:

Have you given any thought to mounting a monopod on your wheelchair?

There ya go!

I might get some of the guys at work, to fabricate and install something.
NHRA Spring Natls. are coming up. Then the Hondo Airshow in May. (Where I fell last year)
-
Found a photo of that Sigma lens.
It also would work on my full-framer..however....vignetting would be extreme.
-
I'll try one of the last photos I took.
A really nice C-47, at Hondo AAF.
-
One more?

How do you adjust your diopter? I keep messing with mine but all my pictures still come out blurry. :(

I'm puzzled why you would use the term " diopter", as it refers to the optical power of a lens.
Perhaps you're thinking of f/stop?
The only other thing may be shutter speed is way to low.
Go ahead and stick a photo in here with as many details as you can.
Remember, this isn't my thread, I'm just more active in it. It's open to everybody.

I guess I just found the answer to my question.

Aha, you were referring to the viewer part of the SLR component.
The little wheel beside the eyepiece. Now I understand.

The NASCAR 'Ho from the stands.

The C-47, again.

What's that collection of gas and dust in the lower part of the photo?
Or is it the reflection off a Mickey D's golden arches? :lmao:
-
That's M42, the Orion Nebula.
If you look closely at the far left belt star (Alnitak), the faint glow to its left, is the Flame Nebula.
These were taken with a 100mm f2.8 lens.

Solved a problem getting this iPad to recognize photo file names.
Now things get bad.
Tapping/clicking each image gives a larger one.
Grumman F8F Bearcats
-
I have thousands. :yahoo:
Top is an inverted F8F Bearcat.
Bottom is half a Bearcat.. Y'all figure it out.
-
Another half of a Bearcat.
-
Heh, rebranding?
-
Still not done.
This bird can do amazing things.
-
Another go-fast.
If you're the target, it's to late to move now.
-
Nice!
-
One more F-22. For now, that is. :-)
They ought to stick a tail hook on seven of these and paint them dark blue.
The resulting flight show would knock your socks off.
-
For test only.

The outline of your image at a quick glance is very reminiscent of the profile of your flying squirrels and sugar gliders in flight
