One of the sleeper issues surrounding the debate on amnesty for illegal immigrants – an inconvenient one that no proponent of a widespread amnesty wishes to acknowledge – is the devastating effect so-called immigration reform will have on African Americans.

The black unemployment rate is almost 11 percent, far higher than that of any other group profiled by labor statistics. African Americans are disproportionately employed in lower-skilled jobs – the very same jobs immigrants take. As Steven Camarota asked in a recent column, why double immigration when so many people already aren’t working?

In Los Angeles, a lot of the black communities have been displaced by Mexicans.  There is also a lot of rivalry between them, mostly in the high schools.

Houston blacks are pissed off (and they've been very vocal about the fact), that New Orleans blacks in their tens of thousands descended on the city after Hurricane Katrina. These were the entrenched lower class, public housing, welfare collecting, food stamp subsisting, permanent criminal do-nothing crackheads who mostly haven't worked a day in their lives. They're an enormous drain on any municipality where they exist in the huge numbers they did in New Orleans. Now they all live in Houston, and none are in a big hurry to go back to the Big Easy. They're the last thing Houston needed, and they're especially the last thing Houston's black community needed. Now the federal government wants to burden the city with tens of thousands of undocumented illegal aliens. Well hey, 90% of blacks voted for Obama. What's that old maxim? "Watch out what you wish for because you just might get it."

If impoverished blacks in Houston wanted to do something about their situation, they'd stop sending Sheila Jackson  Lee back to Congress every other year.
