I Want My Mom...  You sort of don't, really

She is in the Twin Cities.

I am in New Mexico.

She is 91 Then really, you don't want her around. You'd rather pack a 90+ year old away in a figurative freezer than bring her closer to you and in good physical health but has a mild dementia and increasing loss of short-term memory. Then by all means, let's keep her over 1000 miles away. Idiot.

The past 18 months have been a terrible ordeal for her as she's had to move three times. "In with you" is clearly not one of those places.

The first move took her from her familiar home. She didn't want to leave, but she was very much at risk there. Of not having home equity for you to grease on, I bet

Within weeks of the move to her first independent living apartment in a senior community it was locked down. per your liberal fantasy

She was in a strange place, isolated and lonely. probably because you deserted her

My sister who lives in the Twin Cities got certified as a home care aide and did her best. better than you, certainly

But Mom became increasingly depressed, disoriented, angry and despairing. in other words, a Democrat

The facility wasn't great. Last fall we got her moved to a facility that seemed like it would be an improvement. Yeah, I hear Notmyhouseareyoukiddingnowayshesold Acres is nice

It was, but not much.

Mom was still lonely, isolated, increasingly bored as her resources for using a modern television evaporated and her ability to track more complex reading matter was impaired, and she could not go to her AA meetings. Golly...those things are part of aging and have jack-shit to do with covid. Face it, you want her gone.

We did our best, buying "Grandpad" video tablets, communicating several times a day, sending fruit, little gifts, reminding her she's loved, not forgotten. Just not welcome at YOUR place, of course

The depression, anxiety, etc., returned and started building up again. I blame Republicans. Just kidding: it's your fault for abandoning a 91 year old person.

Finally, this Spring - some hope! An assisted living apartment opened up at a community Mom really liked. woo hoo! She might not cramp your style, after all!

And it looked like Covid was about to be licked. We were all vaccinated. THEN WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

We moved her to the new community in June. She likes it very much.

She can attend community meals, events, exercise classes, etc., because the facility is not locked down.

Mom started doing better.

The esposo and I began discussing plans to drive to the Twin Cities over the summer for a nice long visit, as soon as the Covid new case rate dropped sufficiently along our travel route and in Minnesota. Tell me you don't want to go see her without telling me you don't want to see her.

I really want to see Mom if you did, you'd go , while she still knows me, while she's enjoying life, while we can do some fun things together, maybe go to the Arboretum or walk around Lake Nokomis. Really...I thought she was closer to Lake ****offanddiemom

I don't want her to be locked down again - it takes a terrible toll on her.

THOSE ****ING ANTIVAX ASSHOLES WANTED TO MAKE A POLITICAL STATEMENT. No, you're making an anti-Mom statement

THEY WANTED TO "OWN THE LIBS".

THEY'D RATHER BE DEAD THAN WRONG.

SELFISH SHITHEADS DON'T GIVE A CRAP WHETHER THEIR PETTY DESTRUCTIVE STUPID ANTISOCIAL POINT-PROVING ANTICS AFFECT ANYONE ELSE. You're all vaccinated, so there is literally no problem with traveling. You're just an asshole.

I miss my Mom...

Sometimes I wonder if I will ever see her in person again, when she can still smile and light up and know who I am and give me a big hug. ...and sometimes you feel secure that she will die soon and will be off your mind.

sadly,
Bright

If YOU had a 90 year old mother, would you pack her away in a home 1000 miles away? Neither would I.

7. Although the esposo and I are both vaxxed, we have high vulnerability factors.

As you noted above, we wouldn't be able to make it in one go, driving, and I'm just NOT comfortable getting on an airplane.

I know the rates both here and in Minnesota are currently low, but by the time we'd be able to make all the arrangements, get away from work, etc., it will be September - and it may be a very different picture then.

I am going to try and make some arrangements, but nothing non-refundable, and I'm not going to tell Mom as it would be heartbreaking if we had to cancel, last minute.

worriedly,
Bright

Excuses are like assholes. Everyone has one, and they generally stink. Of course, you ARE an asshole, too.

I read that post earlier and my eyes rolled so far back I could actually see my brain.

What a bunch of scaredy cat losers!  Good night alive.

It must be horrible to go through life like these people being afraid of absolutely everything.

If the primitive and her husband have "high vulnerability factors" in regards to Covid, this leads me to suspect not only age but gross obesity.....further verified that they're "uncomfortable" flying.

I can't figure out however why it would make sense for a 91-year-old to attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

What a dolt!! If the country were 100% vaccinated, this primitive would still be scared to venture out. I’m convinced most of them are too scared to ever resume normal life, or whatever it was they called their perverted existence before C19 came along.

So Star Moron TygrNotSoBright is vaxxed but doesn't trust or understand that vaccination. ::) So, her options:

Flying ... Mrs. SVPete and I recently visited family in Kansas. We are both vaxxed and flew from San Jose to KC, no hesitation. We both each have risk factors, but we aren't paralyzed by fear.

Driving ... here's her route by Interstates

I-40 to OKC, I-35: NM, TX, OK

OKC, I-35 to Minneapolis: KS, MO, IA, MN

And in those states, the percentage of people who have received at least one vaccine dose (CDC wepsite):

NM - 64.3%
TX - 49.8%
OK - 46.3%
KS - 50.4%
MO - 46.8%
IA - 52.3%
MN - 58.0%

Of those states:

NM - https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/usa/new-mexico/ ; Appears to have topped a small bump in cases, a bit more than 1/20 of the peak of the winter surge; deaths are low, too erratic to discern a tend.

TX - https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/usa/texas/ ; Appears to be trending downward from a small bump in cases, less than 1/5 of the peak of the winter surge; deaths are very low, flat or dropping slightly.

OK - https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/usa/oklahoma/ ; Appears to be in a small bump in cases, currently ~1/30 of the peak of the winter surge; deaths are very low, too few to discern a tend.

KS - https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/usa/kansas/ ; Appears to have topped a small bump in cases, ~1/8 of the peak of the winter surge; deaths are very very low, appear flat but hard to discern a tend.

MO - https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/usa/missouri/ ; Appears to have topped a small bump in cases, ~1/8-1/10 of the peak of the winter surge; deaths are very low, and dropping.

IA - https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/usa/iowa/ ; May or may not be starting a very small bump in cases, ~1/40 of the peak of the winter surge; deaths are very very low, and dropping.

MN - https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/usa/minnesota/ ; Appears to be starting a small bump in cases, currently ~1/30 of the peak of the winter surge; deaths are very low, and dropping.

Much as Star Moron TygrNotSoBright probably wishes otherwise - being fear- and hate-driven - the states between NM and MN are not really riskier than NM and MN. And since blacks and Hispanics have lower rates of vaccination than whites (blacks especially), people who haven't chosen to get vaccinated aren't really making any kind of partisan "political statement". But as my signature quote says, ...

Wow, I didn't catch that little nugget about AA.  Can't imagine there would be many AA meetings with people in their 90's.  Hell, if I make it to that age, I'll be drinking every day.

Unless all those octogenarians and nonagenarians have booze stashes Star Moron TygrNotSoBright's Mom raids, .

Joking and scarcasm aside, the Mom obviously is lonely, having been moved away from friends and people she knew, and then twice more from places where she had started to get to know people. IMO, the risk to TygrBright and hubby are so vanishingly tiny that she should get her tail to see her Mom as close to immediately as practical. Mom might not be there to be seen come September or whenever TygrBright decided to ignore her fears!

I have no idea how you do it, but you’re very good at it and I’m glad you’re on our side.

Maybe just a porpoise?

Joking and scarcasm aside again, I feel sad for the Mom. She's in her declining years. An ALF is necessary and a SNF in ready prospect. Her faculties are fading while technology is getting more complicated. Not unlike my parents 15 or 25 years ago. Then Covid hits: ALFs and SNFs are locked down; relatives are not allowed to visit their elder (grand)parents/aunts/uncles'; this Mom's daughters are panic-stricken and communicating lots of fear and little or no hope; one daughter won't visit even though risk to the daughter is almost as low as if Covid didn't exist. Summed up, the Mom's situation is very unpleasant, and made worse by Star Moron TygrNotSoBright's ideology-driven panic and panic-mongering.
