The credit crunch tent city which has returned to haunt America
by Paul Thompson
Last updated at 12:35 PM on 6th March 2009

A century and a half ago it was at the centre of the Californian gold rush, with hopeful prospectors pitching their tents along the banks of the American River.
Today, tents are once again springing up in the city of Sacramento. But this time it is for people with no hope and no prospects. With America's economy in freefall and its housing market in crisis, California's state capital has become home to a tented city for the dispossessed.

Not one damn DUmmie places the blame on the Obamaconomy where it belongs.  Of course he does share the blame with other DemonRats that set up the housing bubble.

Trying to decide wheather I like the tent city better or the Hoover shanty town better.

....and it looks like everyone in the Hoover shanty town is out looking for a job.

You know, back in "Hoover days" you could at least junk the old T-model or A-model, take the axles and make a decent "Hoover cart" or "Hoover Tractor"....can't do that with these things they call cars now-a-days..

Thats how it is every time a Dem is president - all homelessness 'evaporates', violent crime 'declines', the economy is 'robust' - save for those 'unexpected' declines in employment,,, etc etc etc.

Seriously. I have watched your act on this site for years. It consists mostly of tirades against pretty much everyone who remotely disagrees with you, silly emoticons, and breathless exclamations of "I can't believe this is being said on a supposedly liberal website!"

43. "I've watched your act" hint - it isn't an act.. Bobbie is working very hard with little help
She is working on as many solutions as can be worked on while living in a car, including efforts to organize the homeless and poor together so they might have a voice that will not be as easily ignored by people such as yourself.

She has advocated that people HERE take an interest and contact representatives that completely ignore or attack the poor, that is, people like yourself.

You have not followed very closely or you would know she is near completion of a PP presentation with an eye towards people using it to educate those that hear nothing from our politicians or news media, she has advocated solutions such as low income housing increases and a needed mending of the safety net.

She works too ****ing hard with too little .....
:lmao: :rotf: :lmao: :rotf:

She's been working on that Powerpoint presentation for two years now!  How do you do that in a car?

I note all the liberal-speak that points to no real accomplishment, such as would be required in the real world.  "Efforts to organize," "eye towards educating,"  "advocated," and the like.  Sort of like when they list Obama's accomplishments:  Gave a speech, formed a commission, etc.

Not so today.

That's because the poor these days are living better than I f'n am, you useless bum! I'm sick of you f'n leeches riding through life with someone else paying your way. Don't give me this shit about living in a ****in' Buick. Section 8, welfare, Medicaid, ALL this shit is paid by the taxpayer and you idiots still aren't grateful. Homelessness isn't a problem caused by money, it's a f'n mental condition that "afflicts" useless bums too lazy to get off their asses and do something about it. I'm f'n TIRED of getting behind you leeches in grocery stores, with carts full of the BEST damn cuts of meat, and whipping out a f'n EBT card when my hard-working ass has a cart with 1/4th of the shit you idiots have, with 2-3 dollar off "quick-sale" meat in my cart. You're wearing nice clothes, pulling up in late-model cars, and ALL of you f'n leeches have cell phones (even you, you useless ****, and not just any cell phone, an IPHONE! that requires an additional 30 dollar data plan), flat screens, game consoles, hell, poor? MY ASS! A single mother of 4 making 60K has LESS disposable income than a single leech with 4 kids on welfare.

Geez, Reb . . . you're too subtle. :fuelfire:

H5, BTW.

Oh I just don't know, we have been a society for years that loves to camp out, grab a tent and take a hike off to unknown areas.

Tent city's are hell holes, better take your disability check and head for an area that is in walking distance from the tent  city's for supplies and a post office box to get a check and a bank to cash it in to.

We look at these tent city's as places for the dammed, perhaps not, some with big bank accounts just want to get away from the bustling mob, get the away from the stress of bills, the technology of today for a few years to watch their baby's grow up totally natural, playing in the mud and dancing in the streams.

So far these camps are nothing like Hoovervills, few people are enraged that the bonus money promised to them for service to their country will not be paid.

We cannot compare the ex serviceman  with their woman and children that set up tent city's on the white house lawn demanding their pay and being shot, tents burned down with Children inside them by government military to this.  Was it Eisenhower that was part of that affair?

There are times when living in a tent is safer then living in a city, the People who do so are free and have no debts or worries outside survival, with food clothing and keeping shelter over their heads.

Would I give up my washer dryer home heating and air conditioning, my stove and refrif, the electricity, the comforts of feather beds, the TV, radio and my PC to live as a free person who has to depend on just my self and hunter gathering and live game .

Few can live this way , takes strength and allot of knowledge to do so. We see the tent cities that sprung up when the gold was found in California, then the Teepees of the American Indians that followed the food on foot.

Crap I say, tent cities are a way of life and should not be disparaged------

In my town, we call it Homeless Inc. There are dozens of organizations and government bureaus all dealing with bums and winos. We just did a huge survey of the bums and winos to find out how we can help them more. Homeless Inc. thinks there are 3000 bums and winos and I bet there are 6000 people in government and non-profits helping them. They do a great job too. The warming centers we had had to be extended and they made the mistake of giving the additional amount of money, the number of nights, and the number of bums and winos they would warm overnight. It worked out to $55/night-bum. We could have housed them in a motel for that price.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

I wonder where all the displaced people in the mid west are going to go now that the tornado's and floods have wiped them out.????  What of the sacrificial towns that are doomed to be destroyed so as to save the larger city's???

Not just the bums but the hospitals, nursing homes, jails, the big businesses, chain grocery stores, the elderly that can or could manage to still live at home,  pay taxes and some that have farmed the same land for 4-5 generations. Every one is homeless, out of jobs, schools gone, or dead before their time.

We are watching living history worse perhaps then the Dust Bowl that only the 80+ year old remember.

When the waters recede this will be just the beginning of mega problems for millions of people.  The farm lands that have been contaminated with salt and Lord knows how many chemicals,  will the farmers be able to plant the crops from the past or have to get into a brouhaha with Chemical company's about planting Hemp to improve the soil, absorb the chemicals.

We go round and round on the homeless all society's have but now we are faced with millions of homeless  due to Mother Nature.

Example my area we have had some floods that caused much damage to the town next door, not just to the buildings but to the results of human inhibition,  Check under your sinks or out buildings and try to imagine what would happen if everything from Drano, paint, stored gas to power lawn maintenance equipment washed into the water table.

After a few floods the bays near the town began to experience problems, everyone scrambling to understand sudden die offs of protected species.

Now if you have a septic tank, fancy it popping out of the ground as you pour all chemicals in the home on top of the exposed tank. You live in a sub division with 300 other homes that all residences are doing the same thing. ---What to do with the drowned rotting bodies of the wild life and trapped pets, the domesticated cattle, horses , goats, pigs and chickens.

Local cemetery where the water table pops up caskets and floats them down stream.

Disease now comes into the mix, all the while people are looking at the sky waiting for a mega tornado to come in and distroy anything left standing.

There is a reason that Noah feared water over fire, Fire can be ultimately stopped, water has a power that man is helpless to control.
So what do we do when the displaced head East, not West and come by the millions to find a new beginning????

As we direct out attention to some other country, all our money and care is going into improving their lives, while the suffering of millions of American Citizens is placed on the back burner.

On a lighter side, human nature is a hoot.   Norfork Va. early 1980's,

In the middle or close to down town a Large Baptist cemetery sits.  At the busiest time of the day a gas pipe running along the front of the cemetery malfunctioned.

The explosion caused 3 dozen or so caskets to fly sky high.

Hundreds of people were storming into any church with unlocked doors, For an hour or 2 everything shut down, city buses due to the number of people kneeling in the streets as the believed that now was the time of the Rapture.  Word spread far and wide and hundreds if not thousands of people rushed into town to become part of the Rapture.

To make matters worse the majority of the police and fire department were Born Again Christians and torn between their faith and their duty.

This on one hand was very sad for the believers and a roll on the floor laughing for some.   What does this come to mind, darned if I know unless  is a fact that some can see the devastation as an act of God or just an accident.

Point being that Mother Nature  or accidents will do more damage to humans then any Terrorist can ever do.
