Walking in public is inconsiderate.

This was a new concept to me a few years ago.

A teacher I knew wanted to get a group of 10-20 students to the local library a half mile away from the school. She was trying to arrange for volunteer drivers. I suggested the students walk since they were in high school and could get there on side streets - not even crossing a single street with a stop light. It seemed like less hassle than rounding up drivers, having driver permission slips, copying their insurance info, all the bureaucratic stuff that schools have to deal with.

She wasn't willing to walk the students to the library in a group because the students were mostly black and the neighborhood was mostly white. She didn't think they'd be harassed or in danger or cause problems themselves, but she felt it was inappropriate for the school to inflict that on the residents - inflict having a small group of black students walk on a public sidewalk past their homes.

For community relations, she felt the school was pushing it a little to have so many black kids there and it was certainly better for the residents to not see the students out in public off school grounds. She explained to me several times that it was about consideration for the community members, even though she didn't personally respect their beliefs.

I was appalled. I am still appalled at the thought that black kids would be expected to not walk in public out of consideration for others.

I've been thinking about that lately because of the Muslim Center.

They work soooo hard for street cred don't they.

Someone possibly insinuating this may be a fabrication?

9. Just out of curiosity, when was this? And did you report her?
That story is disgusting. I assume since you didn't mention it that she didn't lose her job.

But that doesn't stop DUmmies!

 This is not uncommon.

Hey Xeno ... link?

This one is just getting started .... wonder if it will get interesting?

.. hmmm, the black students were not only an anomaly to the community, they were somehow all grouped into the same classroom somehow.    What are the chances?   small percentage of minorities in community, all in the same school, all in the same class?

How very odd.

This is a bigger pile of crap than usual.... :lmao:

I've had 2 kids in high school.....I can't think of a single teacher that would walk a class of HS purple people eaters a half mile to a public library....forget a class of HS kids!!!!

In the first place, schools have libraries and computers...no reason to go to a public library by foot or by car!

In the second....walking a class of HS students a half mile....half the class would disappear before they ever got to the library.

In the third....no school is going to allow a teach to walk her class a half mile anywhere these days....the school will not accept the liability and would not allow the teacher to accept the liability.

When my kids were in middle school, 15+ years ago.....at the end of every grading period, the teachers would walk them across the parking lot, down the school drive, into the adjacent parking lot for pizza at Mr Gatti's. They were never even on a public street! and there had to be one parent for every 6 or 8 kids. The school system hasn't allowed them to still do it, in years. The liability was too high.

They don't have school buses in that school district? Every time we went on a field trip like that it was on a bus. Having "volunteer drivers" do it would have opened up too many liability issues.

And perhaps the disappearance of some young people, to be found in a ditch a week later!

I don't buy a damn word of it! The school would shut it down immediately! Why the hell would a teacher need to take a class of black students to the library in the first place? They're high school students for cripes sake! You'd think they could more than likely find their own way after class!

Oh please, I'd never heard of a "bouncy" until I started posting here but now I know what an obvious one is. As debk and Al have it, what a lot of crap. This didn't happen.

See,  that was the problem here. It was a small group of minorities at a mostly white school in a white neighborhood.  They keep those kids together in one class and they don't trust them with the school's books and computers.

I see blacks, Hispanics, Asians, whiteys, old people, young people, etc walking down the street in our community.  Should I report this to someone to get all people who do not look like me, off the street?

Heaven forbid!

You see Americans?

I think you're right, you better report 'em, as we're quickly becoming the minority!

This is the worst bouncy I have read in a long time.

A ) Public schools serve kids in the neighborhood, so the racial makeup of the kids should match. The only exception would be if its a special needs school. Now, if this is a special needs school, or a school for troubled teens, I could see reluctance to walk to a destination, as some may run off. It has nothing to do with race relations, but with safety.

B ) I have never heard of a high school that does not have an integrated library. There is no need for a high school field trip to one - meaning that if there is a truthiness kernel in this bouncy, the kids were probably grade schoolers.

C ) If it is young kids, they won't walk unless there is enough adult supervision, and where I live (a large Massachusetts city) kids walk to nearby field trip locations all the time because there are more than enough volunteers.

In MA, school choice students are bussed from their neighborhoods to surrounding communities, and have the option of attending schools in other districts (for those districts that accept school choice students).

A library is a requirement for the high school to receive federal accreditation.

Yeah, his entire story about walking high school students through the neighborhood is totally bizarre.  Of course they could walk there.  Most high schools now have open periods where students can actually leave the school.    It's a total BS story.

That is actually a good point.  The district owns use of the bus for the day, and unless the field trip is outside the district lines they do not have to pay for trips such as this during the school day.    They want to take a field trip to the local library (for whatever bizarre reason), then the high school principal can easily schedule a bus to take them.

Of course this lying poster should have reported her comments to the school principal if they were actually uttered.   She would no longer be employed.

Let's discuss YOU walking these same 'imaginary' students to the neighborhood ABORTION clinic. (No buses needed...neighborhoods welcomed...)

Oh by the way, you forgot the "SO" at the beginning of your bouncy post.
