I have said all along "Russia is running a major covert op on the U.S."
It's way more than having assets among the GOP elite.

And it's way more than a few troll farms just mixing it up to increase the disunity and chaos level in a general way.

Putin is KGB from way back - more than that, his KGB job was, explicitly, foreign intelligence, in then-East Germany, and his background was in information/disinformation and propaganda.

After the Soviet state broke up he took on "external relations" for Leningrad State University and within a couple of years into the new state apparatus in St. Petersburg and then Moscow and he was back - and in charge of the KGB's successor, the FSB, less than 10 years into the new state's existence.

He does what he does. And beginning in the 1990s, what he was doing was setting up a massive retaliatory black propaganda operation against the United States, NATO, and the western allies who pose in his KGB-shaped brain a "threat" to Russian hegemony and ultimately to his own control of that hegemony.

With all the apparatus of the FSB involved. In the U.S. this has involved sending Russian operatives to immigrate and install a very large and potent organized crime network, recruiting a huge network of intelligence assets at every level in government(s), business, and explicitly communications, researching extensively for exploitable issues and structural weaknesses in American society, building a "soft" pro-Russia propaganda effort in commerce (especially the energy, technology, armaments, manufacturing and communications sectors), education, tourism and entertainment, and emplacing a redundant array of controllers, hackers, and operatives both remotely and on the ground here.

Their tactics are fluid and adaptable but there are always a set of overarching goals - steal any technology or information worth the stealing, promote a vocal and well-connected pro-Russian support sector in politics and business, and above all, run black propaganda to weaken and degrade the power of the U.S. government.

And it's worked splendidly for him, because by and large the U.S. dismantled its Soviet-focused counterintelligence apparatus, and ignored the potential threat for decades.

And now we have thousands of Russia-controlled and Russia-instigated traitors EXPLICITLY, PUBLICLY and ACTIVELY promoting his agenda at a critical juncture.

And if U.S. intelligence isn't collecting a metric ****ton of information on every one of these shills, sleazeballs and outright TRAITORS to America, for future reference and potential counterintelligence action, they are not doing their job.

But I think they probably are.

Some of them, anyway.

The ones who haven't already been subverted.

So.

Every phone call, every email address, every individual claiming "we should support Russia!" is now on a list somewhere. Let's just hope it never gets to be a second Red Scare, and that the intelligence agencies can act with more discrimination and better information this time.

Any bets?

Either way, Putin wins, the slimy, scheming barstid.

disgustedly,
Bright

4. If you think they aren't ALSO interfering with the elections, you are naive...

...just follow the money in the voter suppression efforts.

Follow it all the way.

How many of the coordinators of the voter suppression movement are taking their orders from Moscow, through layers of insulation?

I'm betting somewhere north of 40%, with the balance being our own deeply racist useful idiots.

speculatively,
Bright

3. The Russian psy-ops war has been obvious for some time now.

I don't know why anyone is surprised.

It is right out of the well known CIA/KGB play books.

The US has done this kind of thing for decades.

It is the height of hubris to think it would not be done to us.

was conceived in the Lubyanka building back when the address was Dzerzhinsky square.

The Russians are patient and a Soviet operation can easily have been updated for today.

I'm trying to remember, which pResident killed the Keystone pipeline?

Has done everything imaginable to suppress domestic energy production?

Greenlit the Nordstream pipeline?

Just told Putin the U.S. wouldn't get upset over a "minor incursion"?

Please share one single piece of evidence to support your "opinion".
Maybe actual evidence would be difficult. Possibly a rumor?

Well that is when he is actually in Washington and not spending 1/3 of his time in the Delaware basement or when on the occasion he is in Washington between the hours of 1000 to 1400 or when a lid has been called.  :cheersmate:
